I think the ranger who feels racially insulted is a whiny child and the tourist is not a racist!:coffee1:

The incident unfolded when the tourist allegedly greeted Sai with “Ni Hao,” a Mandarin phrase for “hello,” which Sai interpreted as a racial slur, given that he is Thai, not Chinese.

Good grief.

My wife told me the story.  Thai news had lots of people talking about this.  “Farangs  being very bad to say a Chinese saying to a Thai person.  The farangs should go to jail. “.

Do not treat Thais with disrespect.   Wife was translating her Thai news reporter for me.  Very thin skin, if any, on most Thais.

Very thick skin when it comes to paying money back.

Hey, respect please!

Greeting a Thai person "Ni hao" is much worse than calling anyone who is not Asian or Black "Falang"!  :jap:

I hate to admit that I do that occasionally, forgetting where I am on my monthly visa runs from China to LOS.

The other thing I catch myself doing is negotiating in Chinese numbers.  But I'm surprised at how many Thai vendors negotiate back in Chinese.
