There are already reports of people getting sent away to the terminals if they haven't done it.

I'm arriving in Thailand with 2 valid German passports. The old one contains the reentry permit and 12 months stay based on retirement valid until 7.8.25, passport is expiring 1.2.2026. New passport 10 years validity. Which passport number do I enter on the arrival card?

 The one you are showing the immigration officer, which, I guess, will be the old one with the reentry permit.

Someone already posted his experience about it at Suvarnabhumi. He was politely pointed in the direction of the line of TDAC kiosks a few steps away where he could complete the online form. There is even some immigration staff there to lend a hand to those needing it.

 

At a land border, another poster got the online job done by a kind and helpful immigration official on duty there.

Websites sometimes change domains or restructure URLs, and if artificial intelligence don’t get timely updates, outdated links keep circulating. That’s why https://www.tdac.go.th/ is likely no longer active, while https://tdac.immigration.go.th/ is the current correct one.

 The one you are showing the immigration officer, which, I guess, will be the old one with the reentry permit.

 

Then he might only get an 8 month permission of stay based on his passport validity - thus....   I don't think there is any harm in using the 'new passport number'  - but handing over Both passports to the Immigration officer - I'm guessing they can make any corrections if necessary....

Yes.  The passengers handed their phones to the IO and the IO scrolled through the screen to get to the part they needed to see.

 

If you have already registered on the online tdac and you're in Thailand but you have to exit and then come back again, do you just have to update the old tdac or you must register for a new one?

Think about it one more time...... It is an arrival card. 

So if flying from the USA out of Los Angeles, LAX, connecting through Taiwan, arriving Bankok BKK.  Do I need to do the online TDAC thing and bring something with me in order to get on the planes?   More importantly do I have to go to some Evisa site and get something in advance before I travel?  Or am I mixing things up?  This will be the nominal Visa Exempt on arrival, not any special tourist visa.

You just need to complete the TDAC anytime in the 3 days before arrival.  In theory you don't need to print anything but if it's easy to do why not.  You should not need it to board the plane but some airlines seem confused on this point.  Just do the TDAC here...

When the TDAC is filled out correct and a QR code issued (e-mailed) - Immigration don't need to see anything... All their records are complete and they simply cross check your passport and stamp it....

 

BUT - if people did 'hand their phones over' its likely because they had an issue with a section, which the Immi Officer was able to clarify and complete their 'submission' on their behalf rather than sending them away to complete it... 

 

 

But - for a complete TDAC - nothing except the passport needs to be handed over to the Immi Officer, no QR code needs to be shown (a used / arriving boarding pass may also be requested)....

No - there is nothing from the TDAC system that you need to show when checking in (anywhere) - you can also do the TDAC on arrival in BKK (there are tablet stations for you to do this if you have no smart phone or internet connection on arrival).

Well I believe you answered all my questions.  Thank you.  I went to Thailand 15 times starting in 2004 but have not been since 2019.  I always loved it because traveling to there was seamless and easy and did not require any advance planning.  My contract jobs often ended in un-predicatable ways so being able to just arrive at BKK and get visa exempt was why I first chose Thailand.  I usually could not plan a trip very far in advance, apply for visas, get advance bookings etc.   Now finally semi retired.

So... You wont need to 'plan' the arrival...   TDAC is simple... (just fill out within 3 days of arrival)...

Visa on arrival is the same (ensure you have a return ticket or onward travel and meet cash requirements - just in case).

 

Once you have travelled in and out a couple of times (Visa exempt or on a Tourist Visa) you may need to look at a longer term plan / options to ensure you don't raise the eyebrows of the Immigration officers on further trips... 

 

(i.e. if retired and over 50, plan on staying here a long time... season 800,000 baht in a Thai account and apply for a Non-Imm O visa based on retirement etc... and ensuing extensions).

I'm just reporting what I saw.  Passengers handed their phones to the IO and the IO scrolled down the screen.

Everyone has to file one, it is easy, I just arrived the other day. Once filed you get email in seconds to say it was successful (look in spam folder if not) no need to show immigration at the airport it is already in the system. If you do not you will be sent to the computer terminals close by (several were sent while I was in the queue)

It has already been reported that some check-in agents have been (mistakenly) asking for them so safer to have it available and avoid any hassle.

Sure.. no harm in that...   I do it in the 'departure lounge' while hanging around at the airport... but really, it can just as easily be done at home the night before etc...  no big deal whatsoever....  And if I forget, I can fill out the TDAC on arrival. 

 

It really is a non-issue - of all the Thai bureaucratic online thingy's... this seems to be the only one professionally rolled out that doesn't have major flaws.

 

And... if a check-in agent requests this (mistakenly) its ok to tell them the are wrong...

We as customers do not dictate the airline's policy.  If they want to require TDAC they can, since it's a Thai entry requirement. Same as they can check for visas or other items.  I've even been asked by an airline if I have cash, as it's an entry requirement to Thailand.  Telling them are wrong is not a good way to ensure you make your flight.

It's an arrival card, nothing more, nothing less.  Airlines never used to ask to see your arrival card in the past, and if they do now they are wrong.  No need to pander to their paranoia.

The airline stewardess used to go round handing out the arrival cards about 1 hour before landing , so how could they ask to see them before boarding ?

For doing an extension of stay at CW would we now need to include a printout of our TDAC (similar to how we needed to include a photocopy of our arrival card before)?

No reports of this being needed yet. It will likely be required in the future, at least your TDAC number, but as of now it's not required.

On a foreigner's arrival in Thailand, the immigration official scans the passport and sees the TDAC information on his screen. The officials at the local immigration offices should be allowed to access to this database, instead of having to ask applicants for a extension of stay to bring a printed copy.
