A tour operator faced a 10,000 baht fine after foreign tourists were seen enjoying beer and cigarettes at sea in the picturesque Phi Phi Islands, sparking outrage on social media.

The incident, which occurred within the Hat Noppharat Thara-Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park in Krabi province, was captured on video Saturday, April 26, showing the tourists flouting park rules.

The viral post accompanying the video criticised the tour company for allowing such behaviour, highlighting the lack of accountability and concern for environmental impact.

The post read: “Excellent service! Taking tourists to Phi Phi to swim, smoke cigarettes, and chug beer right in the middle of the ocean. The tour guide stays silent. The tour company ignores it. If nature is destroyed, it’s not their problem!!”

Adding to the drama, a mysterious caller claiming to be a national park official contacted the social media account admin, requesting the video be deleted, citing damage to the park’s reputation. The caller's refusal to provide their name was described as unprofessional and inappropriate by the page.

Saengsri Songthong, the head of the Hat Noppharat Thara-Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park, revealed that a full investigation was launched following reports of the incident.

The event unfolded at Pileh Lagoon, where tourists aboard a chartered speedboat were seen enjoying alcoholic drinks in the national park, a clear breach of the National Park Act of 2019 and the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation regulations.

As a consequence, the tour operator received a 10,000 baht fine and a formal warning from park officials.

Authorities stress their commitment to enforcing regulations to protect the natural beauty of the area and ensure compliance with all park rules.

The incident has prompted national park authorities to reiterate their strict enforcement of park regulations to preserve the environment and ensure the enjoyment of the island remains sustainable for future visitors.

Thais in a nutshell...

Are these the "quality tourists" Thailand wished for? 555  Hated Phi Phi and would never go back (nearly 30 years ago) as there are so many nicer places to visit in Thailand.

OMG !!

Cigarettes

Could have been worse, an e-cigg! 😂

Another example of a slap on the wrist fine. Make it hefty and maybe it will prevent law breakers.

Welcoming tourists to Thailand... smoking, drinking, vaping, swimming, bikinis, and many more.... The netizens have a problem with everything except their own sound pollution everyday airpolution, double standards,  but what a foreigner does is always wrong and be fined for 10k ,,, but if it are netizens, who are doing the same, maybe not at PHi PHi island probably a fine of 300 THB is given

Good way to flood your beer and put out your cigarette. As long as they pack out the cans it is OK. Minor issue. What do they call Karens in Thai?

Didn't know bikinis were a problem !

Beachwear or work attire?

The descent into decadence is what it is!  Next thing you know the women of LOS will be selling use of their bodies to these barbaric foreigners, then what will become of the country?

Oh, wait . . .

If cans disposed of back in the boat, who gives a toss...

Meanwhile a lot of Thais unfortunately just throw their rubbish in the street or better still pile it up and burn emitting stinking toxic smoke right in the middle of suburbia...

Really appalling that all these foreigners come to Thailand to have fun.

And even worse: they bring their own girls.
