What is up with tattoos and tourists / expats here?

Why is that that most tourists and expats, men and women. Farangs, asians or else do have tattoos?

Actually, most foreigners I see seem to have more or less tasteful smaller tattoos, while here in SEA, I have seen locals covered in whole-body (all arms, torso), often ugly tattoos, esp. in places like Yangon, Pattaya, Phuket, etc., and, particularly dating sites, where one out of three, or so Thai women seem to have larger or numerous (not what I would call beautiful) tattoes, and not just the 'working girls'...

You don't see it in the west? 55555   You've either not been to a western country for a long time or you visited with your eyes shut.   Degenerate? I know a lot of people that woul

Up here in issan you don't see many girls  with tats unless they have been working in other areas  locals look on them a bit

No, you´re wrong: According to a NPR article: "Tattoo culture in Thailand is deeply rooted in religion and tradition, particularly Buddhism, and the practice of Sak Yant, or traditional Thai tattoos, is revered for its spiritual significance. These tattoos are believed to offer protection, blessings, and good fortune, and are often performed by monks or spiritual masters. While tattoos are generally accepted in Thailand.

You wouldn't choose them on the basis of tattoos obviously or even exclude them if one surprisingly turned up.But the vast majority of doctors, lawyers don't have them.

Really? You've asked them? Doctors and Lawyers dress to the ankles and wrists. Shirts up yo the neck. How do you know the vast majority don't have tattoos?

you may find it amusing, but if he's an employer and you walk in to an interview with a tattoo, you ain't getting hired.

it's a kind of 'racism' that a lot of people have towards people with tattoos.

Really? How will the interview know I have tattoos? Will they ask me?

Yes, I just asked AI and it confirms this. So this debate should finally be over now.

Because if monks have tattoos, then it's not the overly simplistic nonsense people have been spewing on here.

Yes, SOME people with tattoos are low-lifes.

And SOME Brits are low-lifes.

But not ALL. Or not even MOST.

So people do need to stop with their prejudices.

Not sure what the laws are. Maybe they are not allowed to ask.

Huberman specifically said he avoids tattoos on his knuckles, neck, face.

And he hides them when he lectures.

To pretend that there is no discrimination is not a good idea.

So if you do have them and want to be a working professional in most parts of the world, it might be best to put them in places that can be hidden.

Or find out what the culture is at that company. Maybe most companies are getting more relaxed now.

Honestly, although I don't consider myself too judgmental, guys with their entire faces tatted up do make me nervous.

Tourists just represent the population and tattoos have become fashionable in the last 30 years. Because of the hot weather people take off their outer garments and you see their tattoos.

Long gone are the days when only sailors and prostitutes in the UK had tattoos.  Either that, or there are a hell of a lot more sailors and prostitutes than I ever thought possible.

Mostly the " look at me" bell-ends who have tatts.Even more pathetic are the usually fat, always ugly women that have, either, coloured hair, body piercings or tatts.Or all three.

So why is like this? Any theory or explanation? On why they’re attracts here.

Only for you to have a subject, that actually don´t regard you at all, to be hooked on. How long time did it take to think out something to be irritated over after breakfast today?

I think a lot of them have,or have had addiction issues.  Insecure and have a: "look at me" mentality.  Mental illness and just plain stupid trashy people may also be at issue.

And not a small one but clearly visible and obnoxious ones.

In the West for instance, you almost never see those. But here young and old people are full of it.

I would say it’s almost 1 on 2 who are covered with tatts.

Why does Thailand attracts primarly those people? Knowing that in their culture is not perceived as good. Huge paradox…

Also tattoos people have a high tendency to be degenerate. And most are sadly. Not the cream of the crop…

I am almost certain these tattooed people will have a very low IQ, they are nothing more than sheep who follow the flock and with very little brains. Will you see well educated people in good jobs following the flock? I very much doubt it.

Same applies to the shirtless, big bellied, big titted brigade.

Because, unlike you it seems, I am very familiar with educated upper middle/upper class attitudes.

Check out David Beckham. And no, I don't like tattoos.

I bet you will find a lot of professional footballers have tattoos, and the low IQ's that go with them.

As am I. I've spent many hours in hospital recently. Your ideas about Doctors and tattoos are wide of the mark.

I also know many people with tattoos. Many university educated. Working good jobs. Nice houses. Successful in life.

Fortunately for them, not all employers have the same discriminatory view that you have.

Loads of tattoos in the West, must be something wrong with you eyes.

"In their culture not perceived as good" Only by sad people.

"High tendency to be degenerate" how many have you had a good conversation with? Think you should have a look at your own sad mind.

It's primarily a class matter. Both in the West and Thailand the upper/upper middle class tend not to have them. The situation is slightly different with the under 30's but not that much. Most people don't want a tattooed accountant/lawyer/doctor working for them.

You wouldn't even know if they have them or not because like me, they are not visible when at work.

Yes. Total school failure. He's dyslexic and has ADHD.

David Beckham is an interesting example in the sense of being a highly successful man from working class origins, inked up, yet fully embraced by upper class society.Good looks and presentation helps. There aren't many like him. He may be uneducated but I don't think he's other than upper class now.

Richard Branson isn't uneducated. He comes from a wealthy background and was educated at Stowe, a famous public school.

Wiki says .........

Richard Branson dropped out of school when he was 16.

His mom was a ballet dancer (back in those days showbiz was low class)

He's a gifted entrepreneur and highly intelligent = and like many such people he wasn't "academic" and didn't go to university. But he went to a famous and expensive fashionable school where he got all the basics..Above all he had extremely supportive parents not in the financial sense but more giving encouragement and all their attention. That class - upper middle class - expect their children to strive and achieve.

Headmaster said he was rubbish at school.

That's not educated IMHO, need at least a degree to be considered educated.

Mother a dancer, that's not high class IMHO.

No.Ballet was never showbiz in that way and she was not low class.

If you are determined to make snobbish digs, you should have referred to her time as a air hostess which never had the cachet it does in Thailand. That career was also mocked in comments about Kate Middleton;s mother who also was an air hostess. The snottier of Prince William's mates in university days would whisper "doors to manual" when Kate appeared on the scene.William, always very protective of Kate, would have none of it and froze them out.

Needless to say they're not trying to disparage her now.
