Advice - Comments – Thoughts on ISPs

Featured Replies

I have been with 3BB for several years and two years ago I got a fantastic 2 year deal for Internet and TV.

Now it coming up for renewal and I went into a 3BB shop and it seems to me that AIS have probably taken them over.

The brochure I picked up is very complicated with different price for different upload/download speed and a TV offering called Play/Ploy??

What ever happened to the old salesman’s adage KISS (keep it simple stupid)?

I am very happy with 3BB’s support and the TV programs I have but sorting out what I should have is difficult so I am looking around.

I have been with TOT before but left them because at that time (at least 5 years ago there was no TV offering)

So any observations from those using Thai ISPs and especially anyone who has signed up for the “new” 3BB offering would be useful.

PS I already have a VPN that enables me to watch UK TV but I would like to have English/Thai TV channels from a Thai ISP also.

Finally I only ever watch the ISP TV programs via my TV.

Thanks

Lots of words, but zero detail on your "fantastic deal".

PLAY is their TV offering. You get an AIS Play Box to plug into your TV or you can install their application if you have a suitable Smart TV.

Yes but what channels do you get do you know if it's the same as the ones 3BB were offering before or something completely different?

I have no idea as to what you are getting now 😊

I think you'll need to compare by yourself. The free content is indicated here: https://www.ais.th/play/en/freecontents.html

You pay extra if you want to view Premium content.

But as you can see, Internet alone starts from 500 baht now. If you have an Android TV or similar device, you probably don't need to pay anything to watch the free content. So 500 baht per month will be the base price including AIS Play free content.

Have you considered asking the staff of the company that you're considering using?

Why not a smart TV, get an android box loaded and tether it to your phone?

The box apps can get just about everything in the world TV and movies.

No need for that home internet company.

Contentious as ever.

Of course I have but I'm just looking to see if anyone has any thoughts before I do that -  knowledge is power - because in my experience sales people often tell you what you want to hear and leave out the negative bits.

And I thought that's what forums were for exchanging information. Maybe you have a different idea about what forums are for.

Thanks very much for your pointers. Do you have any experience with TRue? or TOT?

Just downloaded AIS play to my TV - gets a poor score 3.6 - and I do not like the layout for channel selection full of adverts whilst looking for channels (but that maybe only on the trial version)   - seems like I would need at least plus to get the channels I have at the moment so 699 and I think the base internet is not very fast (although I am not a speed freak). Probably too "glitzy" for me. I will look at other ISPs and as I said initially I can get UK channels with my VPN so no rush.

I will be sad to leave 3BB as their techies were very good (even protected the cable that get getting chewed by squirrels)

I agree, exchanging information is one of the things that forums facilitate, that is why I suggested that you contact the supplying company that would be able to answer your question, i.e. my suggestion was an exchange of information that was in no way contentious.

Emphasis, not contention,  It appeared to me that you hadn't asked the most obvious source.

I know 3BB have been bought out by AIS, but are you saying you cannot renew your current package through them?

I am happy with 3BB. When I last went to their shop, it seems they were still offering their same packages. I have the 1Gb/500Mb. Around THB 750/ month if I recall correctly. I paid one year up front which gets 7% or 8% discount when I renewed late last year.

I noticed that they now have newer WiFi 6 routers. Mine is WiFi 5.

Yes, AIS has acquired 3BB. Nation Thailand reports that on November 10, 2023, Advanced Wireless Network (AWN), a subsidiary of AIS, acquired all shares of Triple T Broadband (TTTBB), also known as 3BB. This acquisition made 3BB a subsidiary of AIS. The deal also included AIS partially acquiring the investment units in the Jasmine Internet Infrastructure Fund (JASIF), which leases internet networks to 3BB

Weirdo stalker still following me around 😊

?

Further to what is written above about the acquisition, the agreement states that they are not allowed to raise the price of Broadband for at least five years. I cannot comment on whether that is being adhered to nor whether they have raised and shuffled the TV component prices to compensate.

It's worth pointing out that with some AIS mobile packs, AIS Play Family is included.

My suggestion would be to contact the call centre to see what they can offer. Especially if you are willing to leave and let them know that. My old mobile packs are rolled over. Maybe they can do something similar for you. But NOT via the shops, but via the call centre.

What speed Internet is that please. 3BB or AIS?

  • Author

It was 3BB and I have no idea of the speed although I have not had any problems over the two years it has been operating - looks like I'm going to pay significantly more from July if I stay with 3BB/AIS

Sure - just trying to know my alternative options although no one so far has commented on TOT or True (I did visit True in a mall but their offerings look as complicated as AIS!)
