With another tropical storm on the way, not soon 😞

It's been excessively rainy for most of the year. Even in 2011, the rain had stopped by early-mid October.

  • Our first "flood relief"  was just delivered. Small boy with a cart brought us two packs of bottled water.   He went away with a 4 pack of yoghurt and a huge smile!!

When does the rain stop? Is it going to keep going into December this year???

The rain is already slowing and becoming more variable in volume, with shifting wind directions as we get further into the transition period.

December is always possible but precipitation is likely to be negligible then, this year.

Kalmaegi  has just jinked south to the east of Palawan and needs watching, however.

Higher tides on the way, and of course one or two tropical storms.

Did you flood in 2022??

You definitely need to keep your pack out of the water, even if it means turning off the solar.

Kalmaegi now a much stronger CAT 4 but still expected over central Thailand as a tropical depression by early Saturday.

Hope Vietnam is well prepared.

Following Kalmaegi is TS Fung Wong, which is expected to veer more north and track more towards HK.

Looks like we are at the top of the tide.

Tides get lower from now on (tide table is at the bottom of this post) so hopefully we will get some relief.

For comparison this was the peak at Ko Kret in 2022, had some water in the house but nothing like 2011.

My DIN Standard Wife indicates the 2011 peak level. Sadly we were too far along with the build to raise our downstairs floor by much.

Wow, it is not far off! Hope that is the peak for the year.

When you decided to build your house there did you already know you would occasionally face flooding issues or have to be on edge each year?

We've been asked this before.

We knew the land flooded and so added 2m of fill and a retaining wall at great expense, we also specified that the ground floor should be just above the level of the road.

Then came the 2011 mega-flood half way through our build!

The authorities decided to raise the road (they just raised it again) and make it the flood barrier to protect the rice on the other side. We did raise our downstairs floor level by about 10cm (which was as much as practical) making it just level with the road again.

2022 was the highest since 2011, there's a thread with photos if you search for it.

On a positive note, being on the wrong side of the barrier means we get free sandbags (delivered as a kit, a roll of bags and a truck load of sand) and flood relief packages which Madam distributes to those in a worse state than us.

How high up that scale was 2011? Or was that scale not there in 2011?

It probably was but I didn't know about it, however the more local scale at Pathum Thani does have the 2011 measurement.

It's the 2554 one right at the top.

We have a way to go yet!

Our notification came in about 4:30.

MrsJ told me that some guy near the rivers edge objected to having sand bags in his garden  so the bags went around his house and now he is locked  in. LOL

Peak level at Ko Kret today, down slightly on yesterday, which is good.

That said, the or-bor-tor has been around today checking if we need sandbags, never one to turn down a freebie Madam of course said yes. He took some photos and will return later.

There has certainly been sandbag activity around the lower lying areas we passed on the way to the bottle shop this morning.

Maybe they are expecting a bigger onslaught from up-north!

image.png.17c4a41327f0085b00af5c64cc97a667.png

Should be local peak, a bit lower than yesterday.

It did continue to creep up yesterday so I'll update if it gets significantly higher.

EDIT 14:48 up by about 1cm. I think we have peaked, for now.

One Man and his Dog have delivered some sandbags, well the sand part anyway.

EDIT We now have 4 truckloads of sand, we'll be able to restore Pattaya beach at this rate :whistling:

Update.

"100" bags have arrived, I actually counted 96 but I could have mis-counted and I'm not doing it again. More are available if we ask.
