PM Paetongtarn Shinawatra Defends Father's Hospital Stay Amid Scandal

Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra has strongly defended her father’s prolonged stay at the Police General Hospital, asserting that his ailment was genuine.

This comes in the wake of the Medical Council of Thailand’s recent decision to suspend two doctors and warn another, amid allegations that they provided false medical reports for former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra. The controversy has cast a shadow on the Shinawatra family amid claims of misconduct.

The Medical Council’s disciplinary action has ignited speculation, suggesting Thaksin may have exaggerated his illness to avoid serving a corruption sentence. Paetongtarn has countered these suspicions, stating that evidence and facts will be presented in due course.

“The order has affected both Thaksin and me, but we’re prepared to clarify everything with evidence,” she asserted, emphasising her father’s prior COVID-19 infection and existing medical documentation from overseas.

While the council refrained from naming the sanctioned doctors, reports hint at their ties to the Police General Hospital.

Surprisingly, Thaksin, usually a vocal figure in Thai politics and seen as a pivotal influence over the Pheu Thai party and his daughter’s leadership, has stepped back from the spotlight since the council’s decision. His uncharacteristic silence has only heightened intrigue surrounding the matter.

Paetongtarn has made it clear that she had no hand in these unfolding events, noting her ascent to prime minister occurred after her father’s hospital discharge and parole.

“My father, 72 years old, was severely infected with COVID-19 before returning to Thailand, with supportive medical records from foreign doctors,” she reiterated. As the situation develops, the political landscape in Thailand remains tense, with many awaiting further revelations.

The episode underscores ongoing tensions in Thailand's political arena, as questions about integrity and influence loom large. While Paetongtarn remains firm in her defence, the matter continues to provoke public and political discourse, underscoring the complexities facing key players in Thai politics today.

So should all prisoners with a history of Covid19 be moved to hotels cells with 5 star facilities or is this just the privilege of serving ex Prime Ministers?

How many other sick prisoners in Thailand have been forced to serve their term in a luxury penthouse?

You know the old saying  "say it enough times.... etc etc"

WE all know this was accomplished by Thaksin. So of course she will deny his illness was fake. He controls what she says and does. Thaksin does not need to be public anymore about this fake illness issue. He uses her to speak for him.

But it has been obvious from day 1 of his release from the hospital that his illness seriousness was faked. Ohh, he may have some underlying problem he and the doctors have been using but the seriousness of it was clearly fake.

Since he has been released from there he has done everything a normal person would do. So he should have been able to do his normal prison sentence behind bars.

I do not fully understand this part.

Is she saying that he was still severely infected with COVID-19 when he was moved to the hotel Police hospital?

If he has supportive medical records to suggest that he was 'severely infected' and was diagnosed before returning, how was he able to fly, why was he not hospitalized?

Honey some times its more wise to just keep the yapper shut......

She is doing a great job of destroying the the one nano particle of credibility she had..

And yes the nails got to go....

Well, I mean who else would be considered such a neutral party than his own daughter, right? I don't know about everyone else, but I am surely convinced.

She needs to tread carefully, should the doctors that exposed him as a cheat become truth then she will have to step down.

She does as daddy says and let’s not forget she is only PM because daddy runs the party , all this was well organised even before he set foot back in Thailand sadly it won’t help his sisters return from exile

She would do. she is culpable in the deceit that followed her father's stay in the police hospital instead of a jail cell.

When he is returned to prison she will be finished as his puppet in parliment.

v long shot but we live in hope.

Official reports indicated that over 72,000 inmates in Thai prisons contracted COVID-19, with 164 confirmed deaths among the incarcerated population.

Who knows how many of the 164 were rushed to a luxury medical facility?.......answers on a postcard.

When will that family understand they are deeper and deeper in the sh*t. But they have good fantasy perhaps she should quit that puppet job and start writing children's books instead?

I'm getting fed up having one dynasty carving up this country for their own needs.

All local political news centers around just one family.

Maybe I should move to the Philippine's, so I can enjoy a dual-dictatorship.

Sis can return anytime she likes, unfortunately the golden chestnut   " I'm not well, take me to the cushy hospital " won't work for her

This whole Thaksin illness story is staged. Actually, everyone knows that!

Symptoms of a possible blood circulation problem. She should go immediately to the Police General Hospital for treatment.

For Thailand's well-being and international standing Thaksin and family should be permanently exiled with no possibility of a return. Sadly money talks, and such an outcome is unlikely.

This is getting interesting.

If the doctors are charged/sacked/disciplined for malpractice and they are proved guilty... Thakisin must be  guilty of faking serious illness to evade prison.

And daughter Paetongtarn should be held guilty for falsely protecting her father.
