Did I not read that children were not needed to were different uniforms on different days of the week?

My 4 year old grandson started this Monday, and has to wear the ''scout''  uniform on Thursdays, different coloured shoes and shirts on other days.

Is this not very expensive for the poorer families?

I think it was just Scouts uniform. 

Sports, scouts, nurses, ordinary- wasteful nonsense

No, the uniforms are not very expensive, and next to nothing used. 

Many Thai schools, my kids included subsidize school uniforms to parents as  you need provide the school with the uniforms purchase receipts and they will reimburse a portion back to you.

I think it safe to say that parents have to buy clothes for their children to go to school anyway. The uniforms do not really cost any more than other cheap clothes, and they are available used everywhere. 

 

Nice to have one less thing for kids, particularly poor kids to get teased about. 

Nice not to have to buy or wear scouts uniform any more.  Thick uncomfortable material with a ridiculous belt and silly hat!

I thought the Scout uniforms (and activities) were nice, but I can understand why you would hate them.

Fortunately I've never had to wear one, but my son hated his and his pleased that now he can wear PE kit and just the scout scarf.

The government helps out with the school uniform at 320 baht per student but like in our countries school shoes are expensive a pair of the black school shoes for a young student costs 300 baht, which is almost a day's wage for someone on minimum wage. It is still expensive for a lot of families.

The family usually rallies around with hand-me-downs, wife's great-granddaughter is using a pair of sports day shoes from her cousin.

Same with scouts and guids' uniforms most are hand-me-downs as for the hat, almost the same design as Baden Powell himself.

I think the girls university uniforms look nice.

The government actually gives the money out for this to all schools, but some schools just keep the money.

Is this a troll post? Normally, aged 4 is still in kindergarten 3... Normally, KG does not wear or go to scouting. It is really up to the school but most do not require this. 

If by chance (which I doubt because I have a 4 year old son) is in Kg he will have 3 different sets of uniforms. Student, sports and thai costume. 

When getting to Primary 1 he will need to buy scouting uniforms if the school requires this. However, they most likely will not need the Thai costume. The laws are open for the director to choose if a full scouting uniform is required or partial. 

 

As for getting money back, it comes from the MOE and that is only 325 for KG student and 400 for Primary once a year. You will also be able to get some money for books 2 times a year from the MOE. 

 

The laws changed on scouting uniforms, but as school just started, I have learned this decision is left entirely to the director of the schools. They could go against that rule and insist you have full scouting uniforms or partial uniforms.

 

You mention the costs to the poor, This is always an issue and you will find there are many more extra costs to pay even with the child in KG. On average, I pay an additional 3000 baht per semester for classroom supplies and projects they do. Then the Thai teacher will of course insist your child needs extra class to improve grades as they usually withhold pertinent information when teaching that makes you learn easier and only divulge these things in a tutoring class (which i have witnessed personally). 

Good morning Mr Thesatat. This is NOT a troll post, and cannot imagine why you think it may be.

My grandson was born on 10th October 2020, so is 4 years and 7 months old. He started at Primary school last Monday. His cousin is 4 years and 2 months old, and also started the same day. They had both been going to Kindergarten since they were 2.;

The normal uniform is a light purple shirt and dark blue short trousers. The new school is the same, but must have the school logo embroidered on the shirt. Yesterday, Thursday, he wore a neckerchief, woggle and scout cap. I saw an older girl, who goes to the same school, full 'brownie' uniform. No Thai costume is required YET. Today he had to wear a flowery blue shirt. I do not know the shoe regi,me, but he has black and white ones.

I never had to pay anything extra at baby school, just Bht 1000 twice a year, which included bus and meals, and Bht 450 insurance.

I am talking about the uni girls walking around Siam Square, and they certainly are the official uniforms. 

 

Most of them could wear a feed-sack and look great.

Please give me a link to this. My Mrs got Bht 325, but the bits she bought were almost 500.
