I still question the viability of Thailand, depending on which side they capitulate to.  Thailand worked out badly for round eyes during the last WW.  It could be just as bad in the next one.

I have nowhere to 'run to' anyway. If WW3 did break out, (which I think is highly unlikely) the UK would undoubtably be involved, so I suspect that 'heading home' would be like running into a burning building.

 

I'd stick it out in my adopted village and, if necessary, go foraging for my food along with the rest of them.

Hard question if TSHTF.....We have an RV & SUV stored in the states....

Assuming airlines are flying, one possibility is to crank them up and head on out to the wide open spaces.....

But, in reality, we'd probably have to just hunker down here....

Dumb concept.  The idea that this WWIII is imminent is dumb on the face of it.  The people in power LIKE being in power and a true WWIII ends that.  No one is in power if an all out nuclear war erupts.  So realistically the worst that will happen is spats.  Continuation of combat by proxie between groups armed by the two sides ala Korea/Vietnam etc.  

 

If in fact a major conflagration breaks out how welcome do people think they will be staying in Thailand with that foreign currency flow ended?  Not just no longer handsome but actually reviled as a dead weight.  American citizens would be MUCH better off back in the USA where at least you aren't considered an outsider and drag on resources as you would be in Thailand.  Unless that is you own a lot of assets in Thailand then maybe that would be better but most posting here own little in Thailand and live off foreign incomes.

Wealth would be lost. Savings would be lost. Income support and social benefits would disappear and the health system would collapse.

Luckily, most people will be dead so they would not have to endure the above.

Interesting.  I'm sort of surprised by the current results as of Oh-Dark-Thirty Wednesday morning.  The polling is showing only 1 out of 7 expats who have responded so far would opt to leave Thailand if a World War broke out.  I honestly thought given the anti-China sentiment on the AN forums that at least half would chose to leave.  I assume that the West would be in a hot war with China given the current US and EU war rhetoric aimed at China.  China in turn will probably occupy Thailand much like the Japanese did during World War 2.  Honestly, the Chinese border is less than 200 km from where I live.  I'd fully expect China to pull SEA under it's sphere of influence.  I do not under any circumstances envision Thailand siding with Uncle Sam, or for that matter China, as an ally and co-belligerent.  Thailand will sit it out as they always do and allow the most powerful combatant to exert control over their region, economy, and resources as a non-combatant state.  
With that said, any expat who stays will end up being at the mercy of the Chinese when they arrive in country, and I'm sure they will, and by extension the Russians and quite possible the DPRK.  Right off the bat, being a Yank may just get you a bullet to the back of the head.  In my case, oh well, I've lived long enough. Let the chips fall where they may. I pose no threat to China, I don't hate Chinese, but I can understand their animosity toward Americans if a world war breaks out. Anyway, a bullet to the back of the head - 50/50.  Or we get rounded up and interned - most likely. Or if we really pose no threat, just registered and allowed to remain with our family - probably least likely.  So remaining in Thailand if China is involved will probably be rather dicey.  Which is why I figured most expats, especially Americans, would chose to board a plane and head home.  But only 1 out of 7?  🤔 Yeah - that surprises me.  Or maybe you folk think that the Americans, NATO, and AUZUS are going to storm the beaches at Pattaya and Phuket and save us?  Dream on.  There are 1.5 billion Chinese to the North of Thailand. Thailand will be under the control of the Chinese.  Or maybe you believe that the Americans, NATO, and AUZUS are going to storm the beaches on the China's coast and conquer mainland China.  If you believe that, I want some of what you're smoking.  

Anyway - the results surprise me.  I guess most of you believe it will never happen.  Maybe not.  Guess will see soon enough, probably within the next 5 years or less given the global sabre rattling and constant "Peace Through Strength" war rhetoric being spewed by the current leaders of the US, UK, and EU.  

I'll say it again:  Peace Through Strength is like Shagging For Chastity.  It just creates the casus belli for war.

Agreed in an all out WWIII it's game  over.  If USA and China exchange nukes radiation probably extends into SEA.  Hopefully after the first few nukes hit saner minds prevail and there aren't enough used to completely contaminate the surface.  But I do not think this will ever happen.

 

IMO the only realistic use of nukes is much smaller scale.  Such as if Iran gets them and Israel retaliates.  Or some warlord country obtains one.  Humanity could survive a small exchange of 2-4 nukes between countries.  Not a great thing for any part of the middle east however.  Your vision is only if USA-Russia-China decide it's game on which hopefully never happens.  

 

BTW I am a member of a shooters board and we have some members prepping for dire end of the world scenarios.  Personally I am too old for a Mad Max world.  And as you mention in such a world owning a few guns and stored food only helps so far.  If society collapses there won't be anywhere to hide.

 

People here are so stupid to think Thailand would give you anything but absolute misery if you decided to stay. Ideally your country would offer you 1 chance to take a charter flight back home and if you refuse you'd be on your own.

 

Firstly all your foreign pensions and banking would be cut off due to extreme circumstances and more importantly for security reasons. Do you honestly think your Wise transfers would work? Haha what a bunch of clowns.

 

Thailand would probably send you to China to build tanks.
