Scam or lack of understanding ?

Featured Replies

What is it with Thai stores? Do they really not understand or grasp what "Buy one get one free" means ?

To me , "buy one free one" means you get 2 for the price of ONE

But no to Thai stores, it means you pay DOUBLE the price of one to get two !

Where's the consumer protection, or do they just think or know, most consumers are that thick ! that they're not getting anything FREE they're buying TWO.

Rant over 😀

Many times I've come across these badly worded signs - they nearly all say 'Buy 1, Get 1' - I sarcastically said to the Mrs that I always get 1 when I buy 1 so what's the big offer 🤣

It only applies to Thai`s.....your a farang have big money :cheesy:

Rimping often had a 'buy one/get one free when they are promoting different foods. To date, I haven't seen anything amiss with the pricing.  But...

... I have often seen the 'second item' different from the first, as if they are trying to get rid of old food rather than promote new stuff.

I had such an experience in MAKRO in Siem Reap. There was a promotion on eggs - buy one box of 10 eggs and get another free. So I took two boxes. At the checkout, the young lady took one box away leaving me with just one. After a discussion and payment, I was directed to a customer service desk where I was given the free box! Probably older stock than those I originally chose.

Where do you shop? Big C? That I could understand as the assistants where we are do nothing except play on their phones, half of the products are in the wrong places on the shelves, they really are a <deleted>shop.

Only dsometimes?  Have had this happen to me numerous times.  Perhaps it helps to smile, be polite and not act the entitled farang.

where the stores do scam people is when they package 2, 3 or 4 items together and stick a price tag on it for the package but when you check the price of the same item individually, it's actually cheaper to buy the individual items rather than the packaged ones.

That has happened to me several times at Makro in Pranburi. Often they send a runner to fetch the second item.

I have never experienced the other scams named in this thread.

Just sayin'

We often take advantage of 'buy 1 get 1' offers in Tops and Lotus's.  My wife diligently checks that it is picked up at the cashier, and we only pay for one item, but get both.  Occasionally we've been told that the offer has expired and they just haven't removed the sign! In that case, we just don't take the second item (not worth arguing about).  Certainly not a "scam".

Also happens in UK...and probably other Countries as well.  Not a Thailand thing at alll

Always take a photo of any offer to show at checkout,  a common problem is the offer is out of date, but they have not changed the price info. Customers fault of course.

No, it doesn't.   How about including a photo of the alleged offer you're referring to?

when I first came here I used to buy a pack of 144 condoms & be grossly oversexed.

At 7-11 you have to be a member.  I remember when they came out with the membership thing and for some reason you had (or still have) to be Thai.  That's what I was told by the staff anyway.

I can explain it to you but cant understand it for you.

If the price of 1 Item is 99baht, available on the shelf. Next to it, is huge display, with BUY! get 1 FREE but the price is 199bt how is that buy one get one free, its NOT its twice the price of a single you are just buying two.

Examples? go into ANY Big C or Lotus;s and you'll see it.

I have noticed on three occasions where an item was buy one get one free and the girl at 7-11 told me to get another one as that was the offer. Just two days ago the last time.
