I'm a Yorkshireman, since when has $300 been easier than 1,900 Bath ? I hope Thailand win.

Start learning Cambodian for when they conquer the whole country.

Easier visas. Cheaper wine. Women with bigger coconuts. What's not to like.

If you want to stop a war. Put ALL the politicians and ALL their families, unarmed, in the front line and tell them the weapons are on the other side of the border. See how many of them really want to fight, and how many only want to fight with their mouths and other people bodies.

To my knowledge Thailand has never fought in any wars but has been colonised by many occupiers the last being The Japanese who walked in Unopposed and built the Burma Rail road.

The only way Thailand would fight a war is if it has 9 allies or such.

Bit like Britain in WW2.

Since I don't have to have 400,000bht sitting in a Thai bank account.

The Japanese didnt build that bridge,

I will watch the 3-day war with a great deal of amusement, likely eating more pizza than usual, and will watch the super talented, very experienced Thai army go to town on the Cambodians.

The Japanese have never colonized Thailand, they gave Thailand the choice and asked them if they would prefer to be colonized or occupied, in an effort to assist them in logistical support for the Burmese campaign. They reminded the Thais that colonization would no doubt result in making sex slaves out of the local women, and it was a fairly easy decision at that point.

Easy enough to say.  When I first got to Bangkok in 2011, I noticed some bullet holes in some of the stainless pedestrian railings across some pedestrian overpasses.  Turns out they were stray bullets from the kerfuffles on the streets a few years earlier.  When the bullets start flying, nobody's safe.

If anything happened anywhere, I’d just stay out the way , or in a case like the last coup in Myanmar, leave at once. I’m not that person who joins in the chaos .

For the most vocal war cheerleaders here there should be a

'hide behind the women & children' option

I think the important takeaway from that historical data point is that we won't get to vote on what we'll do.  That will be decided based on what passport you hold and which side your country's gub'ment would support, if it did come to blows.

The odds that war will break out may be miniscule.  But if it did, our preferences would mean absolutely diddly squat.

My mum-in-law (sadly now long gone) was in the Thai resistance during the war. Get her started and she would tell anyone who would listen (and those who didn't want to) how many "Japs" she killed by derailing trains.

I never had the heart to tell her that at the time I was working for a Japanese company, in Thailand, building a railway :whistling:

Miss the old dear, she never lost her marbles even well into her 90s, she just didn't wake up one morning 😞

They used the Japanese to fight the French and acquired more land.

Overview

image.jpeg.867197da61be709d5917cfef772d0369.jpeg
During World War II, Thailand and Vichy France engaged in the Franco-Thai War (October 1940 – May 1941) over disputed territories in French Indochina. Thailand, taking advantage of France's weakened state after the fall of France to Germany, sought to reclaim territories lost in previous conflicts. The conflict ended with Thailand gaining swathes of territory.

I guess Ill have to fly in from Singapore instead of BKK, when I come back

Better than if you had it in Barings bank.

It is unfortunate that this subject is amusing to the misfit bigot contingent. Unfortunately, the people who die in these wars are the young, the conscripts. That means that somebody's 18-25 year old kid is going to die, or maybe come back with limbs missing. I feel for the parents, some of whom in this forum will have to worry about their child's safety in a needless conflict.

My best friend is relieved that he has passed the age of deployment and won't be called back for active service. He lost friends in the south, and many of his original unit carry the trauma of violent exchanges, IEDS and the loss of  limbs, hearing or eyesight. The Thai military has seen a large part of its core experienced NCO cadre age out, and this makes a conflict more  risky.

Poll If war breaks out with Cambodia what will you do?

As a UK citizen living in happy retirement in Cambodia, crack an Angkor Beer and relax on my verandah!

Modern day Cambodia is committed to peace, so if there is a war, it will be due to the idiotic Thai Nationalists backed by a sabre rattling and aggressive Thai Military! Let us not forget, it was the Thai Military that started this conflict by shooting dead a Khmer soldier on Khmer land! So, up yours Lieutenant General Boonsin Padklang, Commander of the Second Army Region.

Nothing specially.

Full scale war is the most unlikely thing, after all.

Their cross border trade generates over 174 billion baht a year.

And Cambodia relays on 25% of their  power supply from Thailand.

So if the tension ever rises, this kingdom will simply stop if.

And then, the adversary will give in easily.

So absolutely no needs for expats to worry about it.

Not like the one between Russ vs UA.

Or Taiwan vs China.

I would have to agree... The choices are too limited in this survey. Why flee? It is not like any war with Cambodia would be to take over the country. Also, why volunteer to fight? Most people in this forum are either too old or have fled from other countries that are at war. Then of course your other option. Sit back and watch the men defend the country is the most ridiculous. What men? Do you really think the army here or citizens would be any good at fighting a war? If it came to the average citizen, they would flee any conflict unless supported by many others. We all know Thais do not start a fight unless they can outnumber you.

Agreed, who would lead them - the top brass would be running for the rear as quick as their little legs would carry them.
