13 years and won nothing, probably one of worst lotteries in the world.

Always surprises me that apart from the odd single ticket winner here and there most of winners who win the jackpot buy 10-30 tickets of the same number. Who in their right mind would think to buy that 🤔

My wife does.

No, just a bunch of tripe TBH.

How do you know which vendors are genuine government sellers?

If you were to win - where do you cash in your winning ticket(s)?

Are they sold daily? or monthly - the official tickets?

I wouldn't mind investing a a small amount of money for both my wife and daughter. I'd be happy for them to have the opportunity to win some extra cash.

Advice please?

All the ticket sellers that are seen around the streets and malls are selling legitimate tickets, the ones that are offered online with no physical tickets may not be.  They are also available at local lottery shops.

Tickets are sold every day, there are two draws every month on the 1st and the 16th,

Winnings can be claimed at any lottery shop/office, apart from the jackpots.

Foreigners dreaming of winning the Thai lottery rejoice. You can legally purchase lottery tickets in Thailand, provided they're bought from licensed vendors. With draws held on the 1st and 16th of each month, except during certain holidays, your chance to strike it rich is never too far away.

Priced at 80 baht per ticket and sold in pairs, each ticket flaunts a unique six-digit number. A standard lottery set holds up to 1 million tickets, but beware: numbers deemed lucky often carry a price premium, despite government efforts to curb this. The prize structure is exciting, with significant rewards for top winners.

Prize Details Revealed

The Thai lottery features multiple prize categories, boasting a hefty total prize pool of 48 million baht across 14,168 winning tickets. Here’s the tantalising breakdown:

First Prize (1 winner): 6,000,000 baht
Second Prize (5 winners): 200,000 baht
Third Prize (10 winners): 80,000 baht
Fourth Prize (50 winners): 40,000 baht
Fifth Prize (100 winners): 20,000 baht

Consolation Prizes (2 winners): 100,000 baht for numbers close to the first prize.
Matching the first or last digits can win additional prizes.

First 3 digits (2,000 winners): 4,000 baht
Last 3 digits (2,000 winners): 4,000 baht
Last 2 digits (10,000 winners): 2,000 baht.

Claiming Your Fortune

If luck shines your way, claim your prize using a passport or government-issued ID and your winning ticket. Prizes need to be claimed within two years of the drawing date.

For major prizes, head to the Government Lottery Office in Bangkok, while smaller prizes can be collected from regional offices or authorised agents. Note that winnings are subject to a 0.5% withholding tax, and a stamp duty of 1 baht per 200 baht of prize money is also applicable.

Bringing Home the Bacon

Planning to take your winnings back home? Consider any customs declarations required due to the amount. Each country has unique tax regulations on foreign income, so consulting a local tax adviser is advisablem writes Bangkok Post.

Remember, while the Thai lottery offers thrilling opportunities, it’s crucial to play responsibly and understand any potential financial implications.

So, if you are honest, quote "the tripe"

No, they can't. Just a month ago, I won one of the minor prizes. Just the 2000 on the two numbers. Stopped by the agent. Wouldn't pay. Went to Krungthai bank, who is supposed to do small payouts, and they said the lottery was for Thais only and refused to pay out. I asked the bank to call the lottery office, which they did, and then they told me that I could get the 2000 but I would need to go to the main office to collect--a mere 90km roundtrip journey for me.

Just won 2000 baht last month ... wait, what? Oh, yes the Thai Wife collected the winnings. I gave her 1000 baht and my stepdaughter 1000 baht. Done a dusted = two happy girls.

I won 4 K a few weeks ago on the last two numbers being the same. I based my number choice on the number on the ribbon that you get when you explode a lucky cracker at Big Buddha Temple in Pratumnak. Just goes to show that it IS ALL CONNECTED.

On every ticket, but not sold  at that price

If you are going to buy tickets it is best to buy them on the app.  All the licensed vendors rip everyone off.

EXACTLY !!

Only those with a Thai ID card/number can register on the app.

My neighbor won an 80 000 baht price a few years ago.

He was soo happy!

Threw a big party, dancing girls, concert style music and loads of food and drink.

He had to borrow extra money to pay for it all!

That is a typical gambler's behaviour. They lose millions, then have a little bit of luck, win 100k and feel like the happiest people on Earth. It is hard to understand idiots.

My local seller seems to think every ticket is lucky.... 100 a pop

Hmmm… whoopee . Must run out to the shop and buy 10000 baht of tickets. It’s a guaranteed win?

You begrudge the vendors that tiny profit?   They can make no profit at B80 because they have to buy from distributors who are the ones that jack up the price.

I had a dream where I saw the winning lottery numbers. I rushed out, bought a ticket, and used them — and guess what? I hit the jackpot! But just as I was celebrating, I finally woke up.

I thought it was against the rules to quote the Bangkok post on Asean Now????

6 million is hardly a life changing amount

Some people will kill you to get hold of your winning ticket. I judge that to be 'life changing' 😀

To the best of my knowledge no farang has ever won one of the top lottery payouts...Not a single time....At least in the last 20 years, and very possibly in entire history of the Thai lottery....

They obviously are not buying the right tickets.

You have to have a system, and a little bit of luck, to win the big one.
