In a bold move to boost safety on Phuket, the "Phuket Eye" model is expanding its successful crime-fighting efforts on the island. Led by Pol Maj Gen Sinlert Sukhum, this initiative is part of the broader Phuket Model, focusing on crime suppression, tourist safety, and traffic control.

Since January, the Phuket Eye has assisted in the arrest of 369 foreigners. These included charges of illegal immigration, drunk driving, working in prohibited jobs, and drug offences.

Notably, a staggering 28,809 foreigners were caught breaking traffic laws, with Russians, Chinese, and Britons leading the list.

PMajor General Sinlert highlighted significant achievements in traffic management, including the promotion of helmet use and the regulation of public transport. IImpressively, this year’s Songkran festival recorded zero road accident fatalities, which marks a significant improvement compared to previous years.

Looking ahead, the Phuket Provincial Police plan to invest at least 98 million baht to increase the number of CCTV cameras from 223 to 503 by next year.

This technology will be linked to their database, allowing footage storage for up to 30 days, bolstering security and Phuket’s image as a premier, safe tourist destination.

With stats like that the current model definitely isn't working...

I must walk around with my eyes closed. I honestly haven’t noticed any difference between this year and last.

As for feeling safer…ya, no change there either.

Yeah they want foreigners to come then they can complain the farmers are doing this damage why don’t they look in the mirror at their own lack of responsibility they blame everybody for their problems oh I had a car accident the brakes failed why don’t you just be honest if you fell asleep behind the wheel and you had an accident they don’t know the word honesty it’s not part of the vocabulary TIT

should be increased to 3,493,028 and then put 22,987,974 cameras in Pattaya.   Stream them all on YT for a fee.

Oh oh. They have made a rod for their own back. How are they going to announce an improvement next year?

Proper naughty boys.

Where did it say that...

Here we go...more cameras, but no mention of police actually doing their job.

I am also suspicious of this 28,809 figure...by the he way, what number of Thais were caught.

Sorry mate, but perhaps you studied a different English language than I did, but being mentioned 3rd, does not signify "Britons leading the list."

Don't they mean traffic suggestions? When I got my driver's license, I was told to simply move like a snake or a river when I drive. So far, no accidents.
