You might not like it but that's the reality. 

 

Saw the same thing in lower Suk a number of times when I dropped by there earlier this year - groups of Indian guys trying to bargain with street hookers for a g**gbang. They didn't get anywhere, the women clearly didn't wish to lower themselves to that indignity. 

 

And...I've heard plenty of women say they won't go with Indian or Middle Eastern guys due to their questionable behaviour towards women. It's hardly a secret. Your average Western or East Asian punter may not be a paragon of virtue at times but we are the preferred option. 

 

Penny pinching - over egged perhaps but there's plenty of truth in it too. Indians are brought up to barter. You don't know them very well obviously.

This is the mass tourism that will be the downfall of Thailand. It’s happening for a few years already. Phuket and nearly all the islands have been decimated. Sad.

You are missing the big reason that people are ot coming as much.  It has very little to do with what Thailand has to offer, BUT it has a lot to do with the economy in countries.  

 

People often lack the funds to take big trips.  We hear people talking about how the SS world is not paying enough, and that people have so much debt.

 

Most of us long-time expats live here with restrictions, but we can still live here even with increases.  

 

As to Chinese in Pattaya really the only people making money are some hotels and restaurants.  

 

Chinese tour groups aren ot funding walking street or Bukhao.

 

I know this may seem like heresy but they need to shut down walking street and revamp it so that it is open for business and having a running business on the street that tourists would be interested in.

 

Starbucks or a large coffee chain having a location on the water in place of one of the bars would be a good thing.

P.S. I haven't been to Pattaya in months even though I used to go every month before. The above plus more personal reasons are why. I'll still go in the future, but Bangkok is a lot more pleasant these days.

"but Bangkok is a lot more pleasant these days".  Very true but also a lot more expensive and not to forget the cheating taxi drivers. Also, where are the hotels around the 800 Bt mark? There were quite a few, and these closed during the Chinese Virus and never reopened. I can get a hotel or guesthouse for much less in Pattaya and then there's the cheap baht buses.

Myself & mates use to visit Bangkok  ( Nana ) every year for some fun . Stayed at the same hotel every time , until the following . Their plates were overflowing with food and much of it was not eaten , They moved tables together to make big enough to sit 16 to dine together . Other guests could hardly get past their table .  In the swimming pool they would swim in their underwear , ignoring the hotel notice to wear appropriate swimwear . Then a young European lady came to us when we were relaxing by the pool and asked if she could sit with us because Indians were taking photos of her in her bikini and she was scared . 

The popularity of this hotel with the Indians became apparent when in my room I found a receipt for an Indian gentleman for 3 nights stay . The total was 1200 baht for the 3 nights . I was paying more than  that for 1 night . 

These subsidies are enabling poorer Indians to holiday in Thailand . 

As far as the Chinese are concerned , I think that the majority used to holiday in Thailand on  all- inclusive deals in Chinese owned hotels and spent very little money in the local shops . 

IMO , Pattaya could be so much better if it had a face lift . Make it pedestrian friendly and cater for Western tourists and their standards of living . BTW , I am not a racist and my family is multi cultural .  

Pull the other leg, Thailand! When are you going to wake up or is that too much to expect!!!

 

Budget tourists are not the answer to your wishes, quite the opposite actually!! The more resources you spend on attracting low spending tourists the social issues associated will deter high spending tourists from coming! 

Most of us know different societies have different standards and sadly the Indians and Chinese generally speaking are budget tourists with different social standards to most westerners, there are always exceptions but I am generalising. For reasons unbeknown Thailand embraces these non western societies with greater advertising budgets & offering cheaper packages mainly with Hotel rates. Why would any organisation purposely target a lower spending sector that has social standards that even Thailand rejects yet this is a continued practice, it just makes no sense but then it is Thailand!!
