Trump promised 200 trade deals. He’s made 3

So much winning! Could this be the reason for this epic failure on Trump's part to secure these trade deals. Is it winning fatigue that has led to this TACO bonanza?

Trump promised 200 trade deals. He’s made 3

https://edition.cnn.com/2025/07/09/business/tariff-trade-deadline-delay-trump-bessent

"At the conclusion of his first 100 days in office in late April, President Donald Trump made a stunning statement about his progress on tariff negotiations: He had completed trade deals with 200 countries. More than two months later, Trump has announced just three of those agreements – with China, the United Kingdom and Vietnam."

Winning with 3 deals out of 90 promised........what a laugh, and trump is the joke!

"After United States President Donald Trump paused his “Liberation Day” tariffs in April, his trade adviser Peter Navarro promised that the Administration would deliver “90 deals in 90 days”.

But that deadline came and went today with the White House 88 trade deals short.

Trump has now given his Administration 113 days to implement a worldwide tariff plan that he says will reverse decades of globalisation and usher in a new era of domestic manufacturing.

But company chief executives, investors and foreign leaders appear sceptical that Trump will stick to that August 1 deadline after watching him punt the issue again and again.

The episode has reanimated the ‘Taco’ debate - the Wall Street accusation that “Trump Always Chickens Out”.

When he speaks or "truths" 99 percent plus chance he's lying. But maga seems to like it that way.

So Trump was lying about the 200 deals? Oh no!

Expect the usual MAGA denials about those 200 trade deals statement: it's not exactly what he said, he did not mean it, he was joking, it was just a rhetorical device, etc....

During his first term in office, Trump told 30,753 lies.

Nice graph in the article showing the exponential growth.

Is there a third way?  I don't think Trump is capable of the two you listed.

Trump doing something right?

On what planet?

There aren't even 3 deals, but just 2, which are UK and Vietnam. Not yet a final deal with China, just some goodwill, and China is already talking about reversing that goodwill

Trump 1.0 trashed the TTIP and the TPP, just because Obama initiated them, and now he's whining about trade...:coffee1:

A thread like so many others started daily simply for the purpose of some mutual onanism for those of you with the syndrome.

Wait!!!  Didn't 58 people make millions on his Crypto-coin?

That's winning. At least for those 58 people.
(We won't discuss the 750,000 people who lost everything.)
Oddly enough, the ones that made money are in Trump's inner circle. Does that surprise anyone?

I agree.
Trump’s promises are like Schrödinger’s cat —
Alive and literal when grandstanding,
Dead and metaphorical the moment you ask for receipts.

Welcome to the alternate MAGAuniverse —

This TACO drivel. I'll tell you when it applies. It will apply when Trump puts his hands up and says "I can't do a deal with XYZ country. I apologise for introducing tariffs against said country, and we will return to Biden era trade arrangements with said country."

aka - never, ever going to happen. These drivelous lunatics can't get over the fact that just about every country on earth is tariffed at 10% or more. They forget to mention that Trump hammered certain countries this week, including Thailand.

The notion that he "taco'd" because he extended a deadline by three weeks is weak comfort to the brain dead. And remember this -

As long as he has the new tariffs in place against any country the idea of TACO is toddler logic.

He promised tariffs, he imposed tariffs.

As you were saying?

The only problem being that the dumb SOB had no idea how tariffs work and how they would affect (and cost) the average American consumer.

Then he announced a tariff on an island inhabited by penguins, and stalled on some tariffs and not on others, and he rightly deserves the TACO label, although I think more fitting would be the dumbo knows not what he is doing!

"The overwhelming view is that while the tariffs might reduce the goods deficit between the US and individual countries, they will not reduce the overall deficit between the US and rest of the world".

AND.....
Thomas Sampson of the London School of Economics said: "The formula is reverse engineered to rationalise charging tariffs on countries with which the US has a trade deficit. There is no economic rationale for doing this and it will cost the global economy dearly."

Inflation is around 2.4%
