A former U.S. soldier and language teacher, identified only as “Mr. James”, aged approximately 65, was arrested by Pattaya police on the evening of 13 July, after causing a disturbance at a beer bar on Soi 5, Pratumnak.

 

According to eyewitnesses, the American national became enraged after a female staff member rejected his advances. In a fit of anger, he allegedly knocked over a pot of incense, spat at two female employees and kicked over a menu board outside the venue before walking away.

 

 

However, the incident did not end there. A short while later, Mr. James reportedly returned to the scene armed with a metal rod and a sharp object, appearing intent on further violence. The bar’s security staff, trained for such scenarios, quickly intervened, disarmed him and detained him until officers from Pattaya City Police Station arrived.

 

Authorities stated that Mr. James, who appeared to be in a disturbed or intoxicated state, will be questioned once he has calmed down. He only gave authorities basic details stating he was formerly in the US military and had worked as a language teacher.

 

If an agreement over damages cannot be reached, legal proceedings will follow.

I don't know how many times I have to say this.... Foreign language teachers are almost ALWAYS up to no good.   This one appears TYPICAL.  Drinker, goes after women in a bar, gets in a fight......

I wouldn't place too much weight on the former American soldier bit.

Given the size of the US military, a lot of American males will have been in it.

Yep. A very odd American accent that's for sure. As for being a former soldier what on earth does that have to do with anything.

I don't know how many times I have to say this. Those who lump all of a certain type of people into one category are ASSUMING, which a few do here all the time. You can only go by YOUR OWN personal experience with the FEW you personally know. Unless you know the MAJORITY you cannot even begin to understand anything about the majority. I personally have known at least 20 English teachers and I haven't seen any of them acting anything besides appropriate. Of course I don't live with any of them so I can't assume I know what goes on in their personal lives at home.

How many fake teachers do you actually know personally? 

 

Do you realize most adults drink? How many teachers do you have evidence of getting in fights?

 

Check the stats on how many people drink and drive here.

 

Creepy to you might be normal to others, and how many creepy people do you actually know that are teachers?

 

How do you know anyone doesn't have a degree unless it's somehow proven?

 

To stay here you can't be broke, or at least not for long, unless you stay under the radar, which teachers can't

 

How would you know if they don't have a clue how to teach unless you know any personally, and that would only be a very limited amount personally wouldn't it?

 

Back in 2015 you have experience with ONE teacher that did those things, so again, you can't lump all teachers into that category can you?

I've taught and helped an English school, but I don't fit your resume.

 

I'm hardly blind to what happens in the world, so I don't need rose colored glasses.

 

30K, along with retirement, is a good chunk of change, especially if you prefer to live here instead of back home.

 

Anyone touches my daughter, no matter if he's a teacher, cop, politician or president, will end up being disposed of by a vacuum cleaner.

James, after being rejected by a female employee, flew into a rage. He allegedly spat on two female staff members (see end of video), knocked over an incense pot, and kicked down the bar’s menu sign before fleeing the scene.

The situation escalated when James returned shortly after, armed with a metal rod and a sharp object, threatening physical harm.....

Nothing to see here, just a normal day.  

 

 

The large majority of foreign English teachers here.

 

Wake up, have coffee and breakfast, shower, get dressed, go to school, try and teach a mostly uninvolved classroom English so they might better their lives.

 

Go to the store, help the local economy buying necessities.

 

Go home, make up work for the next days classes, eat dinner, spend time with wife or girlfriend, go to sleep, repeat 5 days a week, weekends make up more school work, try to take a break and have some time with girlfriend, wife or friends.

 

Nothing to see here, just a normal routine for a foreign English teacher.

No, I (and probably most other teachers, working or retired on this forum) rather suspect that you either failed to get a job or were dismissed from the "profession". What was it, inadequate qualifications, rejected at interview or sacked for misbehaviour, laziness, drunkenness perhaps or simple incompetence?

There's more than 10,000 foreign teachers in Thailand and I know from experience not all are up to scratch but this doesn't mean ALL foreign teachers are "ALWAYS up to no good." Stupid statement. By experience I mean >20 years teaching here in Thailand. Why don't you share with us what your experience is. From your posts I would say very little indeed.
