Concerns Raised Over Iranian National Living on Pattaya Beach

Local residents have voiced concerns over the ongoing presence of a foreigner, who they believed to be homeless and has been living along Pattaya Beach.

It was later learnt that the man was a Iranian national, whom locals stated was frequently seen pushing a trolley believed to have been taken from a Big C supermarket, packed with his belongings. Witnesses also reported that he often approaches tourists along the beach to ask for money, which many find distressing.

Residents have called on relevant authorities to take more concrete action and implement long-term solutions. They argue that proper regulation is needed to maintain public safety and care for all involved.

“We understand the issue is complex, but allowing this situation to persist does not reflect well on Pattaya,” said one local. “There needs to be a clear and humane plan in place.”

Later on the evening of 14 July and in response to the public concerns, Chonburi Immigration carried out an inspection of the area. The operation, ordered by Pol. Col. Nattaphong Khositsuriyamanee, Superintendent of Chonburi Immigration, involved officers finding and investigating the man, leading to the discovery that he was an Iranian national.

Authorities confirmed the man held a valid tourist visa and was not in possession of any illegal items. During questioning, he explained that he preferred a minimalist lifestyle and was unaware that his behaviour and living on the beach might contravene immigration rules or affect public order.

Officers issued a formal warning, offered guidance and explained relevant legal provisions. The individual was cautioned that continued conduct of this nature could result in the revocation of his visa and he was not to live on the beach.

Officials emphasised that while Thailand welcomes visitors from all nations, those who stay in the country must respect its laws, regulations and public expectations.

Immigration should send him back to his country and blacklist him for the standard 10 years

  • I would worry about the thousands that are coming, they care not a jot about Thailand or your culture  just look at what is happening in Europe

Most immediate concern should be about the tide coming in.

Arrest him for theft of the Big C cart.

Well it isn't like we don't also have many locals homeless in town, some of whom do a bit of begging too.

Pushing a shopping cart along the beach sounds like hard work, is he perhaps a fitness fanatic?

Just tell him to go find a room... unfurnished as he likes it minimalistic.

The humanitarian concern of the locals is touching - I would imagine it involves, arrest, detention and deportation (at his own expense).

I see this guy regularly, cruising up an down soi Buakhou with his stolen shopping trolley and worldly possessions.

He blends right in with all the other strange foreigners on soi Buakhou.

Don't put a swift end to this, and  Thailand will have an endless stream of homeless people coming here to try their luck sleeping on the beach (and don't think for a minute, they can't come up with airfare to get here to begin with).

A tourist visa doesn't last long. He'll be gone soon.

Not if he rides his shopping cart over the border and back.

If He ain't hurting no-one Just let Him live his life . Good on Him if He truly enjoys a simple life . Isn't that the teachings of Bhudda anyway . They should be giving him a Wai and a bite to eat rather than being so judgemental.

So many of them these days.

I look out of place.

Would you blend in?

I've already seen him twice. He's always staring at people strangely and insistently, with a threatening air. This guy has an obvious mental problem. Now the question to ask from an immigration point of view is how this person managed to come and, moreover, to stay here. When we know all the hassles imposed on regular tourists (forms to fill out, proof of stay, budget and others), we can ask ourselves questions. Apparently the authorities have already interrogated him. Why didn't they send him back if he doesn't respect the conditions of stay in Thailand?

If you've been living in Pattaya and visit the beach there or at Jomtien, it would rare if you didn't run into at least a few homeless foreigners.

I've lived in Pattaya on and off for about 7 years. I can think of 2 Brits and 1 Norwegian who over-stayed and lived on the beach with local homeless. One guy was kind of infamous and very friendly and managed to mooch off local expats for beer and food and lived outside on the beach for at least a year. I tried to help him out with cheap lodging but he wasn't having it. I don't know what became of him except that another one of the many expats who try to become authors was going to write a book about his exploits "homeless in Pattaya"

There's an Iranian lives in the next village to me. Nice guy and speaks excellent English. Works on his Thai girlfriends land for about the last 2 years and also sells home made food to farangs such as garlic butter etc. God knows if he's legal but he doesn't seem to have a care in the world.

The wonderful family destination is sullied by this kind of activity around the beach

We saw this guy at Amazon coffee at the end of soi  Buakhou about a week ago. He was begging for food or coffee.

Son of a beach. Surely the Pattaya administration could find a vacant drain for him to live in?

He's not a Buddhist he's a Shia Muslim  from Iran.

‘Officials emphasised that while Thailand welcomes visitors from all nations, those who stay in the country must respect its laws, regulations and public expectations’

public expectations are that tourists spend their holidays supporting local businesses not begging which is also a prohibited profession for Thais only.
