What he found was chilling: the large snake had raised its head and was fixated on the doorway, just metres from where his son was playing. Quick-thinking, the father called the local rescue team,

Such bravery...

My Thai ridgeback was barking one night as he was inside, My wife got up and saw a ratsnake in my office, my first Thai ridgeback was the same and killed cobra that was in a hedge along the fence. Those Thai ridgebacks are excellent guard dogs. A bit hard to train tend to run off alot.

Rat snakes are not poisonous, they are constrictors. Two metres is not so big, for constrictors, it's the girtrh that matters. Very unlikely the snake was looking at the kid as lunch.

Correct, they're not poisonous, but they can bite quite hard and the bite can be infectious and should be looked after by a doctor. Not a nice experience for a baby boy.

They're not venomous but I would not want to eat one in order to judge if they are poisonous....😀

Two of our 5 dogs are Thai ridgebacks. They provide excellent security at all times, while also being very affectionate with those people they know.

Seriously?

Most Thais are terrified of snakes, not surprising since they have many venomous ones in Thailand.   Had to remove/persuade a golden tree snake to leave the school cafeteria.  All the Thai staff/teachers were convinced it needed to be beaten to death, fortunately it was not killed & was able to safely escape to go hunt rodents.
