Think of it like going to the zoo. You get to see all the animals playing in their natural habitat.

But you clearly have lots of friends and boyfriends, don't you? How many exactly now, Susan?

Yes, there are much better beaches, but also more scams and overcharging... But mostly, I guess, it depends whether you're travelling with your family, or alone. Why would I, as a single guy, travel to, say, Hua Hin?

The same at Patts is available at HH, just less so, and not so 'in your face'.   OTT nightlife, no, but many single folks don't want that.  Nightlife is available, but may need to search a bit more.

It's an over developed tourist town on the Gulf.  So same as Patts, the beach will be crap, can't really swim in it.  Traffic is gridlock at times, especially when BKK weekenders flood in.  Western & Thai food made for tourist, so that sucks also, usually.

Patts is HH X 10 or more.  More of everything you want, and don't want.

Hit a bucket of balls a few times. Fun for a bit. Never chased the tiny ball around.

I never got golf either, especially as a solo player. I think it's more of a social sport.

OMG...no way....played golf two/three times a week in a three/four ball for about 20 years....but I'd rather smoke my own cock than play by myself.

I thought Pattaya was not that bad really, I expected a hell-hole like Angeles City, but really Pattaya is not that bad. Sure, the mall is degraded and not comparable to Bangkok or CM, the restaurants are overpriced but it is easy to navigate, there are nice markets and the Walking Street was not as repulsive as one'd expect.

Didn't like the beach much, though the service on the loungers is great. Still, overall not the best place to live in Thailand for me.

Central Festival and Terminal 21 are "degraded"?  Why?

Just seemed a bit tatty and run down, when compared to the mall options available in Bangkok and Chiang Mai.

Me, personally, I like watching the ladyboy's chasing the Indians down Pattaya beach road, smacking their heads with their high heel shoes (stilettos).

Never been to Terminal 21.

Central Festival looks like a world class mall to me. It's not run down at all.

Much nicer and more modern than most malls back home I've been to.

When people want to see things in a certain light, then they go into all kinds of contortions.

As several comments in this thread about Pattaya are silly.

People, places and things take on the characteristics of the environment they are in.

If the surrounding area is grimy and sleazy then it rubs off on the modern high end store or mall. Neighbors matter...

So you're not grimy and sleazy?

So where do you live then? Udon Thani with all the other non-grimy and non-sleazy people?

yes.  I love walking around.  I love the baht bus.. hop on hop off as needed.  International foods all over the place. Decent cost of living overall.  Plenty of fun things to do.  I do wish the beach waters were cleaner and swimmable, but then Pattaya would be so much more expensive.  It is easy to travel to places to swim, Ko larn island offshore, Ko Samet is easy to get to for some visits.  Several other closer beaches in many other threads.  Easy to get to Bangkok by bus.  Easy to fly from Utapao to several places.  Easy to take VIP air con busses to many other cities.

Same same where ever you go in TING Tong land.

No, Central Festival in Pattaya is definitely tatty and degraded and run down, when compared to the CM and Bangkok mall options.

There is a difference.

Some of the clientele was a shocker, you're not wrong.

It's not just that, you actually perceive it as tatty and run down if the surrounding are that way.

If you built the exact same mall in Beverly Hills it would look like a better mall, even though the two buildings were exactly the same.

Even if you knew it was the same mall it would still work that way.

It's pretty easy to catch fleas in pattaya. A lot of people don't sterilize between sessions.

Fleas, assume you mean crabs (aka lice - body, pubic & head).

I think you're right. But I did see it as a bit older and dirtier than the offerings in Bangkok or CM. Feels like it's not as new and pristine.

Yah, that's probably true.

Of course the 280 pound guy with long hair and a vest doesn't help.

I've seen ladies have a big gang bang with 6-7 indian men, and then get back out on the streets for more punters.

From that day onwards the thought of touching ladies out there fills me with revolt. No point.

Sitting in a bar, paying a lady to talk to you is an idea that bemuses me.

It's cheapskate Miami with weed and hookers; where in the world would that NOT be popular?

It's for people who want to live in an expat center, like me. If you want that and you want a beach, it's a reasonable choice over Phuket. I would pick it over moribund Hua Hin.

I prefer to live in Bangkok, between Asoke and Thong Lor. I want restaurants, yoga, and socializing at my finger tips.

A million people (who don't want that) diss me living along Suk Road. Of course, many will claim that to live in Roi Et is morally superior. Problem: moral superiority = sub par sushi.

I was talking to the owner of the fetish club in Pattaya, The Castle, last night. He told me that he is now swamped by Indians. If people look in and see Indians, they walk out. He has no inherent bad feelings towards Indians, but business is business and they are quietly banned.

Is the Indian-ization of Pattaya overstated or are they -ahem- changing the complexity of the place?

To live a peaceful life on the beach? Not everyone needs people around all the time.

Go and look yourself. Pleasant city. Sleaze area is small.

I can see some advantages.

Beaches, wide selection of food/restaurants, nightlife, close to the islands and Rayong, not too far to Bangkok, cheap.

The reason I can only stay for 2 days max are the type of foreigners you meet. I've never been to a place with a higher proportion of arrogant weirdos.

I never had a problem with foreigners there because I don't have to interact with them.

My problem is with the Thai's there. I need to interact with them for things like, renting places, buying necessities, and eating out or at markets, transportation, etc.

Without that having to engage and interact aspect I would have no complaints about the area at all. I would just be doing what I want with a bunch of nightlife nearby for a break.

Your problem is you are playing ball (ie. golfing), when you should be on a solo bikeride.

The Thais in Pattaya give you a hard time?

Do you take showers?

Not really, I just don't like being around them. I feel like they are immature and dumb. I don't ever voice it to them, however. Most of the time they don't even realize it through the fake smile and/or just figure I'm distracted or non-responsive, busy, etc.

So this has nothing to do with Pattaya in general.

You don't seem to like Thai people.

And you probably give off negative vibes, so it becomes a vicious cycle.

No, it's worse in Pattaya, definately, but it's present in other areas as well.
