Right now we have no idea, it's likely not related to border crossings if he's already in Thailand.

25 yrs, and many crossings to Laos & Myanmar, and USA to TH via DMK/BKK, and never encountered a corrupt Thai border official.   Also never got caught doing anything against the rules, do didn't attract their attention or need for a corrupt official.

None ever asked for anything more than was required to enter TH.

Corruption of govt officials in every country is well established and known.   What is there to discuss ?

Likewise.

In 45 years of global travels, the only occasion I've been asked for money was crossing from Togo to Ghana, the Togolese immigration officer requesting a 'cadeau', and in Tanzania at Christmas a small donation at immigration expedited departure, though it wasn't compulsory. Whilst travelling in SE Asia no border official has ever requested money from me. But then my paperwork has always been in order.

I had a guy in Cambodia hold his hand out at the old Siem Reap airport once...as I was leaving. I just smiled and showed him my passport and he put his hand in his pocket.

It's OK to spell out the words corrupt, Thai and border.

What's not OK is the point directly to an officer or location.

The issue, as always, is the draconian Thai defamation laws, defamation is a criminal offence here so we implement these rules to protect our members as well as AseanNow.

Always err on the safe side. If you are unsure whether you are going to be breaking the rules please feel free to email support[at]aseannow.com or PM an online moderator.
