Child Safety First: Phuket Declares War on Sex Tourism

On many of my trips to Phuket I saw many times a well dressed  elderly foreigner in a restuarant at a table or in a shopping centre  with a young Thai lad aged 14-16  ( hard to tell ) but young and I doubt they were stepson or son. That site used to make me sick in my stomach. If this crack down works then the restuarant or shop management ought to be made to report this to police.

The first time I met my now wife's young sons I took them out for a tour of Phuket. (She was working). They had never seen the ocean before let alone some of Phukets attractions. We had lunch at a restaurant and I noticed I was getting some sideways glances by staff.

I was not interested in explaining the relationship, knowing there are ignorant, stupid people from all nations who make assumptions based on their own perverted and limited intellect.

I think you'll find it's A1

They should focus on the very young girls on the beach bothering tourists by constantly trying to push sunglasses/trinkets etc., and who are run by LOCAL syndicates (so several Thais have told me).

Rather than having talkfest gala events in 5 star resorts there is a simple way to stop child exploitation in a place like Phuket.

The Police need to do their job properly with visits, arrests and prosecutions of owners and staff in the seedy bars where underage exploitation occurs.

Police officers who own such bars and those who take "tea money" to look the other way have to be be prosecuted for their crimes.

I was once eating at a Patong Beach restaurant when surprised by a sudden protracted hug from behind by a very young flower seller.

Concerned about connetotions I brusquely ordered her away, even before checking my pockets.

Will someone from AsianNow please inform the property authorities of their mistake.

are you sure its a mistake and not another hidden in plain site thing? ☻👣😱

I am very sure this happens but i doubt very much it is in big numbers.

What you mention happens mostly among Thai people and that is not the issue here.

In order for a foreigner to hook up legally with a 15 year old in Thailand they would have to be insane.

Maybe it does happen but not to tourists?

Any US citizen would be breaking the law if they do so.

I know a few guys who have married a Thai lady and if i would not know the circumstances you could think,

"Why is this foreigner riding with a ten year old Thai girl on the back of his bike?"

He is picking her up from school!!! It is his stepchild!

I have been offered under age kids before but that was over 20 years ago.

You just walk away from a situation like that, what are you going to do?

Pretend to be a tough guy and resort to violence?

Reporting to the police was also not an option,i was new in Thailand.

If you want to live in peace over here you learn to walk away.

That is exactly my theory just look away and ignore it just as I do when I see a 4 year old girl selling flowers around the bars at 1am .

Why didn't you ask them?

I'm often out and about with my 13 yo son.

Absolutely.  I’m 51 and often hang out with my 10 year old step daughter.  Wonder how many ‘ewwww creep’ looks I’ve had… but to be fair, I understand the uneducated judgement.

Good idea as long as they start with the locals first

If they identify and arrest those F - ing Pedos, all good for me.  Scum of the earth.

By transforming awareness into actionable measures, Phuket is leading by example, promoting a safe, ethical tourism industry that prioritises the wellbeing of its most vulnerable citizens. The island is not only opening its doors to tourists but also firmly closing them against exploitation and abuse.

What a joke. They hold a seminar in a fancy hotel with food and drinks and call it a training session. The police already know how to find and arrest pedophiles and underage sex workers. They have been doing it for years. Why throw away money needed for enforcement to hold a meeting at a nice hotel? When they could be using it for more pay for the police so they will stop trying to get bribes from tourists and businesses or asking for fees or fines to allow them to turn an eye away from them.

Has anyone looked at you sideways and wondered what you might be up to ??

I think you might be mentally ill.

Maybe you would be happier living in your home country.

Every man with a child is some sort of sexual deviant.

Ever stood outside a Thai school at closing, you could shout at all the dads collecting their children.

Ever been to McD or KFC, loads of dads with their kids eating in those restaurants.

Been in Thailand a long while never seen any, but never looked for it, yet years ago I was told a lot of the exportation was young girls from Laos, trafficked by Thais in Northern Thailand and then sold on, after being abused.

I never had a heart attack, that does not mean lots of others don't. Of course there is child exploitation here and any move to combat it should be supported.

I'd never seen it either

Sadly, the lure imposed by poverty is strong!

And what that say about an elderly man who is old enough to be her grandfather, hanging out with girl looking like she just finished 7. grade?

It doesn't only happen in laos . About 15 years ago I met a girl in a bar in Pnom Penh with a tragic story to tell . Her mother sold her to an American bloke for $500 and he  took her to the states at age 12. Three years later she managed to escape to a refuge and they sent her back home and as expected she wanted nothing to do with her lovely mother so she got a job in a clothing factory and later in the bar. As expected she was  mixed up in the head but she was a lovely girl so the next day my mate and I hired a taxi ($15 US ) for the day and took her and her friend on a sightseeing tour for the day which finished up at a very local place on the river where they caught and killed the chickens before bbq ing them.It topped off a good but sad day.I often wonder what become of her.

Yeah, this kind of thing is an issue. My daughter is now 18 so it just looks weird that I’m seen with her. When she was a few years younger we got some funny looks from people who seemed to think I was a pervert.

Sad reflection on Thai society in tourist areas really. In other countries (Western countries, Singapore, Japan etc) people would automatically think we were family out together. In Thailands sleaze ridden tourist areas the obvious connection is to child sexual exploitation.

Thailand really doesn’t seem to grasp that its casual attitude to sex tourism, leads to a path of sexually perverted tourism.

Why do you doubt that they were son or stepson? Were they kissing and cuddling and generally making out in a restaurant or shopping centre?

I don’t blame your thoughts, I blame the now prevailing perception of Thai sex resort areas, that lead you to think such a thing. If Thailand got its act together and eliminated its sex tourist image, folks such as you wouldn’t automatically think that an elderly guy with a young boy were sexually involved.

Lets face it, campaigns such as the one just launched is mainly done so that Thailand can stay of the human trafficking black list. Initiatives like this one can be rolled out by the Thai authorities as an example of how hard they are working to eliminate human trafficking. In reality they are doing F all.

I once knew of a Thai lady like that, from the info on her ID card she was 31 years old, looked about 14. She used to do the check-bins at the B G in Sukh Soi 7 BKK. She was 31, but was very petite and looked much younger.

Child Safety First: Phuket Declares War on Sex Tourism

 We need to declare war on Sex workers and Sex Tourism- "For The Children" of course. Throw the baby out with the bath water.

I'm not saying that there isn't pay for play with children in Thailand, there no doubt is world-wide and it's a terrible crime.
However!
Most gals working in bars and other establishments at least have ID stating that they are over the age of majority unless the owner of the bar is secretly pimping underage gals.  When I use to enjoy P4P, my target age was "thirty-something."  Most gals in the 30s have been around, know what they are doing, and can be really fun to..🤔
...play board games with.  🙄.  30 yo is about as young as I want for my fortes into playing "board games."  😁

 "I want young, virgins!!!"
 Please - take them all.  They'll just lay there looking at the ceiling dazed and confused until they Pass Go and want $200.

Anyway, been there, done that, party daze are over, don't do it anymore.  nâa bèuua.  Great memories tho'
