Just looked on the dlt website, no mention. May only apply to this office and pandering agents, we’ll see.

Question: Do you have to go to the DLT Office nearest to your address (as written on your Certificate of Address) ?

An Alternate DLT office might be a work-around for those wanting a 5 year Licence.

- Reasons other than the obvious not wanting to renew every 2 years.

- Can't get an IDP with a 2 year license.

- DUI Limit varies (0.02% vs 0.05%) which means having a beer with lunch might put someone over.

As far as I'm aware...

Any Non-Immigrant Visa i.e. Type, B, O, O-X, O-A, Ed etc are considered a Resident Visas....

This is not a new regulation - this has always been the case, though some / many DLTs have been flexible when offering those on 'other visa' and extension from 2 years to 5 years (and 5 years on to 5 years)...

I'd agree with you there, as far as I also know its always been the case.

First time I hear about that rule, and IMO the most ridiculous thing I ever heard about

But who has such a visa that is valid minimum 1 year on the date they renew their driving license?

Valid point – but I suspect this falls into the category of one of those classic Thai announcement moments.

These statements are often released without thoroughly cross-checking the actual regulations beforehand, which inevitably leads to confusion – particularly among expats who tend to interpret the wording far too literally.

If you’re holding a Non-Immigrant Visa or an extension thereof, I wouldn’t be overly concerned.

We’ve seen this kind of muddle before – for example, when officials announced that the TDAC card needed to be completed up to three days before arrival. That phrasing led many expats to believe it had to be filled out exactly or more than three days prior to travel, which of course wasn’t the case and only added to the confusion.

The 2 Year Temporary license is also considered a 'provisional licence'...  hence the lower DUI limits.

This thread outlines the difference - a forum member spent the night in jail after blowing 0.027% BAC while he was on a 2-Year-Temporary license.

Had he been driving on a full 5 year Licence, he would not have been over the DUI limit.

Some rogue official who his girlfriend cheated on him with a foreigner decided that dirty farangs will no longer get a 5 year driving license,

I know It seems absurd but it's a more logical explanation than any guesses on why they decided to go rogue.

Probably an attempt at reciprocating against Trump's tariffs.

I was being hopeful that it might in some way effect the situation.

How could anyone have more than a 1 year visa extension in their passport at time of license renewal? (noted abut the Wealthy Pensioner, 5 year, etc. but that's a tiny minority of those renewing licenses - vast majority are foreigners working here, regular retirees, etc.).

Wow... just wow...   What is it with the mental cases that have to shoe-horn in a 'Trump-comment' into any thread no matter how thin, tenuous or completely unrelated the thread could possibly be..... :whistling:

I don't care about Trump.

Wind your neck in calling others 'mental cases' with the amount of time you spend yourself on the forum.

Depends on the type of extension of stay, certain work permits (BOI etc.) allow 2 years EOS for example.
