Is Trump actually doing a better job than you expected?

That's quite wrong. You're looking at it from a narrow personal perspective. However, president Trump has to look at it from an American perspective, what is best for the country. It is simply a fact that devaluing the dollar will be beneficial for the US economy in the long term, as it will help make US companies competitive again abroad. This will increase the strength of US manufacturing and tech companies who export abroad, make US companies more profitable and increase wages in those industries.

The tariffs are not "shoved down your throat", if you do not wish to buy a product subject to a tariff, you can buy a US made alternative. The choice is yours.

You are looking at the allies' well being, that's not really the main concern of president Trump, his concern is first and foremost US ccompanies, for whom a cheaper Dollar will be highly beneficial.

To the regular American consumers a 15% sales tax by DECREE not congress inflation and less buying power of our devalued currency is a disaster combined with the big orange tur$ of a bill (aka corporate welfare) bill what do the wealthy need more to rip us off next?2 years free service?nope it’s just another trump rip off not to mention the animus created with our erstwhile allies…….sorry I’m not sold.

I have to admit I would have never expected to agree with the title of this oped but I do find Trump second term much better than his first one.

Let's start from the first win, something I largely anticipated: I knew he was set to sink the US dollar and be instrumental to the appreciation of the euro (and many other currencies with it). He did it in his first term, and I was so sure he would repeat himself that I sold all of my US denominated assets and converted them into Swiss Franc and Euro, resulting in a 13% gain, after factoring in the loss of 2% recorded in the last two days.
And it's only the beginning. It's just a matter of time he will prevail upon Powel and force the FED rates down, causing a further depreciation of the USD and of all the currencies loosely or tightly peg to it, like many currencies in Asia. Thank you Mr. Trump!

Second win, and it's a big thing for me. He is strangling Putin and the Russian economy with him. He imposed Europe to stop purchasing energy from Russia, it's traditional supplier of cheap gas and diesel.

As European I am ashamed that my European Union kept on purchasing these commodities from Russia.

I understand the pressure Orban, the AfD, Salvini, and all the parties of the extreme right and left put on the EU Commission to keep the gas and diesel taps open.

But Trump, despite Musk and Vance openly sympathizing with these right wing, pro-Russian leaders, stood his ground and ensured justice was made. The EU wil never buy energy from Russia again

But he is going much further than this. By imposing secondary sanctions on India and China, for Putin it is going to be game over. And I rejoice in anticipation of a Putin free world: Thank you Mr. Trump!

Third win, and it's another big thing for me: he pushed Europe to arm herself and stand on her feet again, as it used to do before our former colony raised to its current superpower status and became Europe's sugar daddy. I will never thank Trump enough for forcing the Europeans to behave as grown-up men and women again, after 50 years of shame. Thank you Mr. Trump!

Fourth win, and it's another big thing for me: by introducing new taxes (i.e. tariffs) and depreciating the US dollar he has made a big contribution to reduce global warming, much bigger than the millions of leftist right-thinking, organic veggie-burgers eaters would have ever done in their entire lives. A Swiss citizen consumes approximately 2.5 toe, which translates to roughly 29,000 kWh of electricity per year, while an American citizen in average consumes 7.76 tonnes of oil equivalent (toe) of energy per year, or about 89.97 MWh. It's shameful!

A weaker US dollar plus additional taxes means that the average American consumers becomes poorer and is forced to bring its consumption down to more sustainable levels. Thank you Mr. Trump, future generations will remember you and your bravery!

Fifth win, something I am delighted of:  he is putting a serious brake on immigration. There was once a United States of America characterized by a deeply north European culture and dominated by a WASP elite (White Anglo-Saxon Protestant). This was before a massive injection of immigrants, especially Latin immigrants, turned the country in a sort of ugly copy of the banana republics south of the Panama Canal. Vulgar, loud, violent, ostentatious, corrupt to the bones, greedy, which knows no duties but only rights, where everyone aspires to become a rentier and no one wants to commit to working honestly, disrespectful of the law, the privacy and the property, armed to the teeth and ready to use force to impose the law of the strongest.

America resembling everyday more Colombia rather than Friesland, North Holland, Cornwall, Jutland, or Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire, with the latter being the homeland of most of the Pilgrim Fathers.

Mr. Trump has put a stop to all this. America will go back to its cultural roots. And it's a win for America, and it's a win for the free world, for the rule of law, for the personal freedom of each one of us. That's the fifth reason I say thank you Mr. Trump.

Notwithstanding the above I also recognize he has some shortfalls, and some serious ones. Especially his habit of diverging from the truth. However, let's be honest, who hasn't any shortfall?

"Let he who is without sin cast the first stone". I won't be that one.

You can't have it both ways and whine about the national deficit and then complain when a president tackles the root of the problem, spending, and cuts medicare. Some hard decisions had to be made. The government was spending too much.

I don't know why you're so concerned about the allies, Trump is slapping them about the face with tariffs and they still bend over say "thank you".

In my experience working with "thousands" of refugee claiments I personally believe most were fraudulent, but their claims still needed to be heard  to comply with the Convention. In Australia most illegal non-citizens are removed, Deportation with a formal document is rare,  usually just criminals who were on PR.  I spent a time running a Criminal Deportations branch. A Minister, fed up with all the avenues of appeal, later decided to expel these people using character legislation, On forums like this posters generally believe all removals are deportations. Easier to not correct.

I knew you were Australian by your username.

I think it's because you seem to be advocating for the status quo which has not been good for most American's minus a few boomers who think they hit a triple.

LOL. Really you never hear about:

1. Dollar depreciation since inauguration day? I can provide evidence if you are so incompetent that you cannot verify yourself.

2. Trump support to Ukraine? I can provide you evidence if you're so lazy that you can't even read a newspaper

3. Trump pushing Europe to rearm itself and spend 5% of GDP in defense? I can provide NATO official documents on the subject (they are public domain)

4. Tariffs and dollar depreciation make the American consumer poorer? Do you really believe the opposite is true?

5. Trump putting a serious and long overdue break on immigration? Questioning the Ius Solí? Deporting illegal immigrants to El Salvador?

If you never hear about any of the above, the explanation is simple:
they treat you like a mushroom, kept in the dark and fed with sh*t.

I don't know what you did to deserve this treatment, but you surely know the reason, and that's enough for me.

Trump's answer will be to fire the Gallup people. "Fake news!"

President Donald Trump’s approval ratings have dropped to 37% among American adults, according to Gallup, with support among independents slipping to just 29%. The poll was conducted July 7-21 with a margin of error of ±4 percentage points. The Gallup poll decline is largely attributed to growing dissatisfaction with his handling of key issues such as the federal budget and immigration policy.

The USA has a positive trade balance with Australia. We buy more goods and services from America than you buy from us.

We are hit with a general tariff of 10%, 200% on medications, 50% on copper and steel. We apply almost zero tariffs to American imports.

Personal experience: We make non-subsidized steel and send it all the way across the Pacific to Pinole Point in California. It is cheaper and better quality than what comes by rail from Chicago.

Australia has been a staunch ally in all America's wars. We have spent lives and treasure supporting the USA.

With your bases at Pine Gap and North West Cape, and 2500 Marines in Darwin, we have made ourselves a nuclear target.

At Big Pharma's behest, Trump wants us to dismantle our Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme, so we can pay the same ridiculous prices for medications as you do.

You lack the intelligence to understand Trump has irreparably damaged relations with most other countries.

Australians have nothing but contempt for Trump and his deranged supporters. P!ss off.

2.  Nice to be nice rule is only valid for Trumpers, not the leftists.  Proven time and time again.

Yes, I enjoyed my time in America. You have amazing diversity of people and places. You have probably the best command of logistics in the world. Anyone flying into O'Hare airport knows that. I have been to the Johnson Space Center in Houston, incredible what was done there. On the other side of America, I have been to Fisherman's Wharf and Yosemite National Park.

Which is why it is so distressing to see the US divided by a man of low character, whose stocks in trade are avarice, lies, selfishness, and the stoking of hatreds. Even worse, he has persuaded people like you such behaviors are the new  normal. Honor and responsibility are outmoded concepts.

I have no idea what your second statement means.

Trump plays to the basest instincts of Americans, greed, bigotry and racism. He's been successful with you.

Oooooooooh, still dribbling over Trump actually winning, because YOU and millions thought he had buried himself with his lies, BS, and strange verbal nonsense at his rallies.

Harris did well, thrown in at the deep end to achieve 75000000 vs 77000000 votes, then numpties like you come along and say she lost badly.........🤣

But, never mind, the back to front ball-cap wearers like yourself are Trump's saviours, yet he is now burying you very people, 😢, which is quite hilarious.......🤣

Not being able to win against Trump indicates her lack of worth.

Any decent candidate would have won against him.

Even Biden could beat Trump, and Biden has no brain and sniffs little girls.

Well based on the conversations that I have with friends and family in the US, life is not so great anymore.  Costs of everything needed they say have risen beyond what the average citizen can even afford so they have to cut out either health insurance (mine from a big US company has increased premiums almost 30% in the past two years without any claims).  The market is moved by Trump's call for or reverse of tariffs while some of the congress folks use this to purchase and sell stocks and get even richer - right now they are debating whether to even floor a bill to outlaw insider trading by the Congress people.  Most times when they try this, they can't even floor the bill let alone let folks vote yea or nay.   I read that jobs of paying any fair salary on which to live/ buy a house/ foods, health care, etc are scarce and getting less and less as people now are moving out of their particular area or even out of the country so that they can survive.  Scary situation for many IMHO.
