Police in Najomtien have arrested six foreign nationals for dangerous late-night motorbike riding along Sukhumvit Road near the Nong Chub Tao intersection. All six individuals were found to be Kuwaiti citizens, none of whom were able to produce valid driving licences or vehicle documentation.

The arrests were made by a patrol unit from Najomtien Police Station, led by Sub-Lieutenant Thanyawisit Saengpho, along with Police Sergeants Yuranan Prasertsang, Napath Siriphaiboon, and Jirayu Tidthong. The team was conducting routine surveillance in their jurisdiction when they encountered a group of motorcyclists exhibiting reckless and hazardous driving behaviour on the inbound side of Sukhumvit Road heading towards Sattahip.

Upon attempting to stop the group, several riders fled the scene, but officers were able to seize six motorbikes and detain their riders.

Initial charges filed against the individuals include:

• Reckless driving likely to cause danger to life or property

• Driving without a valid licence

All six motorbikes were impounded as part of the investigation.

Najomtien Police Station has reiterated its commitment to public safety and legal enforcement, stressing that officers will act decisively against those who endanger others or breach the law. The incident serves as a warning to all road users, residents and tourists alike, that dangerous driving will not be tolerated.

I imagine that would get the attention of rental agents pretty quickly.

They are Kuwaiti,  there's no fine they cant pay.  They all get oil money and their money is the most powerful currency.

Toss them UNDER the jail.

I spent 6 years in Kuwait. I had my own way of dealing with them.

It involved a .177 pellet (air) gun from the 4th floor. Farang calls a Kuwaiti cop....meh.

Something stings you real hard as you are being an <deleted>. They buggered off.

This is great news and frankly I think it's the first time I've ever heard of people being fined or arrested for reckless driving, and I think it's the first time I've ever heard of bikes being seized for reckless driving. That is a huge step in the right direction, kudos to the police for that.

Now if we could get the highway patrol to do similar arrests for cars and trucks on the highways driving recklessly, that would be a giant step forward for Thailand.

They were causing chaos at Phuket/ Don Mueung airports on last weekend, queue jumping, pushing in front of people at the luggage claim.. horrid people, the goats are better behaved.

Its been repeated and repeated... so many times..   announcement after announcement, report after report...   crack down after crackdown...

Nothing is 'ever' done to manage the illegal rental of motorcycles to unlicensed individuals - even when there is a crack-down !!!

better HWP acts and fines the Aholes driving on the 2 nd and 3rd lane at 70 km/hr or not moving on the fast lane at 90km/hr. The first lane is always empty, get them to move to the left, as the signs say: slower traffic left. Then one doesn't need to undertake on highways and act recklessly.

Déport them and send them back to the desert

If the RTP care to visit Ban Amphur Beach car park, any/every night of the week after 10pm, they will find dozens of modified bikes and their ****head riders. Set up a trap, cleverly and quietly, both sides of the road opposite Ban Amphur post office and they will be able to collect a lot of money (we all know that's all that matters). Their clients will be locals and foreigners, ****wits all.

Yeah the slow, old, funky, poorly maintained trucks driving in the fast lane overloaded with fruit or various stuff that they're moving, driving at 50 or 60kph in the fast lane, and then not budging when they see a car behind them, is beyond obnoxious.

Equally heinous and dangerous is the guy who makes a u-turn directly in front of you when you're doing 120, and there's not a car behind you for a thousand meters. So he makes a decision to cut you off when it could have waited 2 seconds and ensured himself and his family absolute safety.

That is deserving of a rather large fine and that kind of deterrent would go a long way toward getting people to behave themselves, and pulling them out of their ridiculously self-absorbed and hugely unconscious world.

if true then why did they not give chase to those who fled and make additional arrests for fleeing as they seem to do with others?

I think in the UK they give you a week to pay the fines and get some one with a license other wise it gets crushed,

It seems like this thing is being done almost only by Kuwaitis (I mean amongst foreign nationals. Probably, lots of young Thais do it too). I mean we hardly ever read about other nationalities doing this racing thing in Pattaya. I wonder why.

I guess it makes sense they like to ride motorbikes together.  I was told due to the repressive sexual culture that locks away their women, the Kuwaiti men like to check each other's oil.

Anywhere someone can do a U turn directly in front of you isn't somewhere you should be doing 120

Deport them immediately and ban re entry for 5 years.  Seizing the bikes seems like a good idea.  That may force some action and maybe take the shops that improperly and illegally rented out the bikes out of action

As to the luggage queuing, grab an ear and put them back behind you.

Almost every major highway in Thailand allows u-turns and some of them are in totally unprotected lanes. We're talking about a four-lane divided highway, the main artery going north and south in Thailand. if I can't do 120 on a highway like that what's the point of even driving?

They should do their job by issuing hefty fines to those who rent scooters to these individuals.

Agree...      and almost every other vehicle on the roads on those major highways are travelling at those speeds....

The U-turns themselves are lethal and IMO - its criminally negligent to have such - U-Turns on fast highways - of course, to make such 'U-Turn options' safer, cost comes into it and people will argue Thailand does not have such a budget to make U-Turn Bridges on major roads nationwide, whereas I'd argue that money has been pocketed.
