Two men were arrested at a security checkpoint in Chiang Rai after attempting to smuggle 60 kilograms of compressed heroin to Bangkok aboard a long-distance coach.

At approximately 99:30 on 2 August, police officers from Phan Police Station conducted a routine inspection at the Pu Kaeng checkpoint. Officers stopped a Sombat Tour coach operating the Chiang Rai–Bangkok route and noticed suspicious behaviour from two male passengers.

Upon searching the men’s luggage, police discovered two suitcases containing a total of 120 blocks of compressed heroin, weighing approximately 60 kilograms. The illicit drugs were carefully concealed inside the suitcases.

The suspects were identified as:

1. Mr Han 26, a resident of Moo 6, Muang Yai Subdistrict, Wiang Kaen District, Chiang Rai Province

2. Mr Yeer Vang, 29, a Laotian national

Both men were taken into custody and will face charges relating to the illegal possession and transportation of narcotic substances.

Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the source and intended recipients of the drugs in Bangkok.
