Noise Woes in Pattaya: Locals vs. Kuwaiti Motorcyclists

Residents of Soi Yensabai in South Pattaya are up in arms over disturbances caused by a group of Kuwaiti youths. This group has been creating havoc by riding loud motorcycles through the area, often revving their engines late into the night.

In the early hours of yesterday, just as the clock struck 4 am, locals reported to Pattaya City Police about the incessant noise from modified bike exhausts that kept them awake. Although the police responded promptly, confiscating several noisy bikes, the peace was short-lived. The group resumed their disruptive activities soon after the police left, undeterred by the intervention.

The issue, which has been ongoing for several weeks, is forcing some families to consider relocating due to the relentless noise. The residents are now urging for concrete measures to be taken to bring back tranquillity to their neighbourhood.

Police have assured an increase in patrols and stricter enforcement against illegal exhaust modifications. However, the local community remains sceptical, pressing for a lasting resolution to their nighttime ordeal.

The situation exacerbates during the summer when thousands of Kuwaiti college students visit Pattaya. Though the commotion often declines with the resumption of classes, their behaviour has already led to accidents, including some fatal incidents, thereby fuelling tensions between residents and tourists.

A further concern raised by locals is the students’ general disregard for road safety norms. They are often seen riding without helmets and typically lack the necessary licences, vehicle registrations, insurance, and other legal documentation. Their habitual speeding and disregard for traffic regulations contribute to the growing chaos in the area.

The residents’ pleas highlight a broader issue of maintaining order and safety in tourist-heavy zones like Pattaya. The community is eager for effective solutions that will not only address the immediate disturbances but also ensure a safer environment for everyone.

Local authorities are now under pressure to find a balanced approach that reinstates peace and enforces road safety without alienating the influx of tourists vital to Pattaya’s economy. As a response to the residents' concerns, there are calls for immediate action to establish a harmonious coexistence between locals and visitors in this vibrant city.

While police efforts continue, residents are hopeful for collaboration between law enforcement, local government, and tourist groups to create a sustainable approach for community wellbeing and safety. The stakes are high, and the demand for action is clear—residents want their peaceful nights back and a secure environment for all.

Yes, we heard all about it last week, and some police actions to supposedly quell the problem. Where are they getting the bikes from?

Anywhere you go in Thailand you will hear Look-At-Me bikes.  The owners drive nails into the exhaust silencer to give the impression they own a powerful bike and fondly imagine the heads turning in their direction are admiring glances.  They are not - they waste petrol and alert any cop in a one kilometre area they are riding illegally.  However as all cops are as cloth-eared as the riders nothing gets done and innocent people's hearing is worsened.

A .177 caliber air pistol did the trick for me in Kuwait.

I'd always shoot them in the back, as I just wanted them to go away. I wasn't trying to kill them. Just sting them.

2006 or so. They quit my area. I had a JOB & a 3 month old baby girl.

Listening to hot -rodders at 0300 hrs was not an option.

Use pork blood in water guns and spray on them. Anything to do with pork. Word will get around in their community.

Easy! Just talk to them, and talk to the parents. If continue cancel their permission to stay. If residents, then just jail them or the parents for 3 month for every time they do it.

This seems to be a never ending story for Pattaya

The police and immigration need to take stronger action maybe a few deportations could be in order to send a clear message

Your actions have consequences 😱

Follow the money.  Rich, spoiled brats who buy their way out of any police problems.  Need a vigilante force to teach these dooshbags a lesson.

It's also an exaggerated story. They just ride around and around. They cannot speed in that area. Those that are too young, will ride around on bicycles. It's just a cultural thing. It won't stop because they contribute to the local economy, whatever you might think. They'll be more outrage if they stop arriving. Then they sit down and have some tea. No obvious criminality other than riding around without helmets and licences. Annoying for some, yes. But people's livelihoods depend on them. So there should be some give and take.

This is a good thing.  Darwin will take care of these inconsiderate jerks.

@redwood1 What would you prefer them to do on holiday? Drink alcohol and consort with prostitutes?

Riding around with their friends is what they do. It's just for a fixed period and then they are gone. Live and let live. You chose to live in a busy city centre. You can always move for a few weeks.

I would prefer them drinking and consorting with prostitutes: better for local economy and usually not quite as noisy. None of this 'fixed period' bs. Teach them the hard way to be considerate of their surroundings and not arrogant little spoiled _______. Idiotic to suggest "move for a few weeks".

Why not rent camels to them? Would make this arabs feel right at home. Camels walk very quietly. You just have to make sure they don't shag them at the end of the night....

Some angry racists on this forum...lol

They are often 3 on a bike, never use a helmet and many of the bikes are loud but the police don't seem to care.

All the bikes are rented from rental places that have very loud illegal bikes and they never check their drivers license but the police don't care.

Wow! You need to hear the modified(?) exhausts spewing from the 12+ year olds that play football at our local village temple/school.

Kudos to the kids for playing football after school, but the "look at me" as they hit 80kph+ over 250 metres to a T intersection is par for the course.

Tourist spots are a magnet for virginal youngsters. Can't get a girl?....maybe a loud bike will help.🙃😘

Never came across it when I was there  (Saudi until 2004), but it was a long long time ago. I suspect there are a lot more people about these days especially male kids.

Just teenagers. So much angst.

I'm sure we as teenagers had some fun too.

Yep & got my ass beat quite a bit too.

Just a sting mark on your back. Trust me that was going easy on them. If Mom had got ahold of them....I pity the poor souls. She'd yank my pants down & whack me 99 times for some "imaginary" CRIME I had committed. She's 89 now.

I call her maybe twice a year. Karma....I wish you'd call me more! Well, I wish you had never beaten me thee times a week....& I wish you had never hauled me to them crazy churches.

I have one CRAZY mother. Dumb as a bag of hammers. EVERYTHING IS A WORK OF THE DEVIL!
No TV nor radio unless it is religious.

She knows NOTHING about the world. She was 30 when I was born in 1967 & she's been that way all my life.

Older brother was about 15 & Dad found this risque show on the big old console TV. According to big brother, Mom BLEW HER LID! Nancy Sinatra.

I FLED to the Army when I was 17....Mom & Dad both signed off on it....ANYTHING to get AWAY from my mother & go actually experience LIFE!

EDIT: My older brother told me about Mom getting angry with Dad over this. I was just a year or two old.

@jaywalker-2 This is normal. If you can have a good relationship with your mum, you can have a good relationship with anyone 😊
