Former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra has donated 10 unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) sets, worth a total of 3 million baht, to the Royal Thai Army’s Second Army Region to strengthen its patrol and self-defence capabilities along the border.

The handover ceremony took place at 10:00 on 10 August, in the VIP reception room of the Second Army Area Headquarters. Lieutenant General Boonsin Phadklang, Commander of the Second Army Region, received the equipment on behalf of the army.

The donation was made by Thaksin, with an additional 50,000 baht in financial support from the 10th class of the Armed Forces Preparatory School alumni. The presentation was made through Pol Lt Gen Surasit Sangkhapong, Assistant Minister attached to the Prime Minister’s Office, acting as Thaksin’s representative.

Lt Gen Boonsin expressed his gratitude, noting the importance of the drones in current security conditions. “These UAVs will significantly enhance our patrol and surveillance capabilities, improve self-defence for our troops, and protect our borders for the nation and the people of Thailand,” he said.

That can't be good for his ego.

I wish he would donate himself to the front line.

Of all the things in the world to donate, what does Thaksin have to do with drones? a good donation to public hospitals and to old and sick would go down a lot better, did you know that a pensioner in Thailand get the princely sum of 1,000 baht a month?

and that the old and very sick have nowhere to go and they have to rely on family, no palliative care, no home for the demented and cognitively impaired people to go?

right... chinese drones that cambodia can track with the blessing of xi... glossing over at its best

What is his profit from it?? Nothing for free anywhere in the world.... surely not in Thailand and with the Shins

Such purchases should be made through appropriate government / ministerial discussions by officials who are tasked to look at / make decisions on such subjects.

Did Thaksin seek agreement from the appropriate authorities that these items woul bd useful, safe, etc., and how would their operations / maintenance be financed?

All of the above would be standard procedure in all countries.

But on the other hand we reecently had trump accepting a gift of a multi million large jet aircraft from another country, to be used for transporting of the POTUS and it's systems used for safety and security of the POTUS and numerous other official senior US officials.

Strange indeed.
