A 13-year-old schoolgirl was injured after being struck by a motorcycle driven by an American man in Na Jomtien, Pattaya, on 13 August.

The incident occurred at around 17:00 in front of Wat Na Jomtien, just before the red-light intersection near the Office of the Attorney General Region 2. The motorbike, a Yamaha NMAX 155cc bearing registration from Chonburi, collided with the girl as she was crossing the road on her way home from school.

The driver, a man in his forties from the United States was not named, claimed the girl suddenly stepped into his path, causing the collision. The impact sent the motorbike skidding nearly 100 metres, damaging the left side of the vehicle.

The victim, Ms Ananya Inyam, a student at Sattahip Witthayakhom School, sustained injuries to her right ankle, suspected to be fractured, along with facial abrasions. She was lying in the road, closely attended to by her grandmother, until rescue teams from Sawang Rojanathammasathan Sattahip arrived to provide first aid and transfer her to Bangkok Pattaya Hospital.

Lt. Col. Atit Saenpanya, the investigating officer, along with Na Jomtien police, documented the scene and has summoned the motorbike rider for further questioning. Legal proceedings are expected to follow.

I just went to the website of this motorbike. Here's the sales pitch.

https://www.yamaha-motor.eu/al/en/scooters/sport/pdp/nmax-155-2024/

Times are changing, and we all need to think about the smartest way to travel in and around the city. Driven by a powerful 155cc engine that gives you faster acceleration for easier overtaking – as well as a higher top speed for keeping ahead of traffic on the highway – the NMAX 155 is Yamaha’s vision of personal new mobility.

That's the problem right there ... these motorbikes are designed for "overtaking" and "higher speeds" than other vehicles. You need to STOP overtaking other vehicles and going faster than everyone else, otherwise people get hurt. This is the stupidest way to travel in and around the city, not the smartest.

Hope the girl has a speedy recovery.

It skidded 100 metres, he must have been travelling.

I reckon it's an incompetent rider at fault.

If the link works you will see the lovely footbridge right in front of Wat Na Jomthien that the victim presumably chose not to use.

That's a very old link.

The walkway has been removed, now there's a lovely new overpass that the foreigner should have been using if travelling at speed.

It's a 'fast' stretch of road.

Fast vehicles generally use the overpass to avoid the traffic lights.

Maybe the rider was travelling at speed to get through the light.

Rubbish,

Roads are for driving on and, theoretically, have appropriate speed limits.

That bit of road does not have a pedestrian crossing to the best of my knowledge.

If you see a ball crossing the road then a child will follow. If you see a dog in the road it will run the wrong way.

OK so there was no dog or no ball but this is Asia. You cannot simply be head down and staring straight ahead because you are in the right. (stereotypical national reference not included) . You have to be aware and observant.

Even travelling at 80 kph the probable limit in that area there is no way a Nmax would take 100m to stop. Skidding or no skidding..

Agreed…  some people have no idea of distance but it seems someone thought it was 100m & that was quoted…

It could have been 30m or 100ft etc… but no motorbike will skid 100m when hit, so imagining the speed from that would be flawed…

It never ceases to amaze me, some here ignore the evidence, the facts of the report given, then manipulate the story to suit themselves.

Remarkable, unbelievable, hilarious. 😂

a motorbike could slide 100m but perhaps would need to be doing a lot more than 80kmh, it really depends on a lot on the construction of the bike, but lets say it slid 50m he was still moving a quite a lick perhaps 120kmh, it matters not, the fact he didn't slow approaching a junction says a lot
