The 22-year-old British tourist accused of killing a woman while attempting a motorbike stunt in Pattaya could now face up to 10 years in prison after the victim died in hospital.

Brandon Mills, from Doncaster, was riding a rented scooter on the night of 14 August when he allegedly tried to perform a wheelie but lost control, slamming into 49-year-old mother-of-two, Jurairat Petchraksa, as she left a local bar on her Honda motorcycle.

Jurairat was found by emergency services lying in a pool of blood and rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries. Despite days of treatment, she succumbed to her injuries.

Mills was initially charged with reckless driving causing serious injury, an offence carrying up to three years in prison, but police confirmed the charge has now been upgraded to reckless driving causing death, which carries a penalty of up to 10 years in jail and a fine of up to 200,000 baht.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Itthiporn said:

“The suspect was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs, but he admitted causing the accident. More evidence and witness statements are being collected, and we are awaiting a full forensic report into the cause of death. He will not be allowed to leave Thailand.”

Mills, who was reportedly beaten by angry onlookers in the aftermath of the crash, has been released from custody but has now had his passport confiscated. He has also made a compensation payment of 30,000 baht to the victim’s family towards medical costs.

Tributes have since poured in for Jurairat, described by friends as “everyone’s angel”. One mourner said:

Questions remain over Mills’ identity, after some local media referred to him as Brandon James Holmes. UK reports suggest he is the same man convicted in Sheffield in 2022 for dealing heroin and crack cocaine, when he received a suspended custodial sentence.

Police are expected to submit their findings to prosecutors once the hospital’s forensic report is complete. There are local media rumours that he has already fled illegally across the border into a neighbouring country, but authorities have not confirmed this.

It doesn't take a genius what is attracting these sorts of men to Thailand. Over the past few years we've seen masses of them arrive in Thailand.

Pretty much guaranteed he would flee across a border and never be seen again, especially here, seeing it could have been a 10 year sentence.

Crossing a border is not so hard, and the Norwegian who fled after the murder of the Brit managed finely to get back to NOrway after hiding out in Vietnam for three years or so

Temporary or replacement passport can be applied for in the country he has fled to. Don't know why they released him on bail.

If you get your passport confiscated, they report it to the person's embassy immediately. No chance of him getting a new passport or even a temporary in another country.

Never crossed a land border here.......but I can't imagine it would be that difficult to cross with help.

He should never have been released.......unless this is what the Thai authorities hoped would happen.......one less problem to deal with.

He would be long gone from Thailand.

His only chance is to give the family a few million

Sling the police 50-500,000 and run away.

That is how it works here unless the family is influential.

She was a mother of two leaving a Pattaya bar on a motorcycle so I assume she has no influence.

He has gone, the police have some cash.

I don't understand how/why he has fled to ...presumably Malaysia?......because he was explicitly told by the police not to leave Thailand?

Unless he managed to come up with some good cash for the cops and they did a deal, he gets back his PP and they look the other way for a few hours while he bolts.

Almost for certain......money in pockets...problem solved.....although someone could stick an oar in yet as there are extradition treaties in place!

I doubt Cambodia would be very helpful if he's gone there

Identified but not identified.

Is it the same guy or not?

I was once told that for the right fee, someone could be driven to the Cambodian border by the Thai cops and be met on the other side by a helpful friend

The UK judicial system does some bizarre things doesn't it?

Yeah, good luck hiding.

And who wants to live having to look over their shoulder all the time?

And ... the grim reaper will catch up with him eventually.

You can run, but you can't hide forever.

Everyone needs to pay their debts eventually.

Ask Motorhead if you don't believe me.

No idea what a "Northerner" is , obviously from the North of England?

Is that a "lower" class area of England?
