That's fine.  Russia will just keep pushing Westwards and attriting AFU soldiers until it pushes past the initial defensive and logistical positions that were first established by Ukraine during it's war against the native Russians in the The Donbass back in 2014 onward, then their lines will fold, and the front will collapse.  As the Ukriaine front collapses, so will the Ukrainian government including their military. It's just a matter of time and Russia isn't on a time-table.  The longer Ukraine drags this out for their EU/UK benefactors who are "all hat and no cowboy", or "all talk and no action," the more territory will be ceded to Russia and ethnic Slavic Russians living in Ukraine as opposed to ethnic Slavic Ukrainians who predominately occupy Western Ukraine. 
Ukraine has lost. But like the Nazis during WWII, they still fought for a long time after strategically losing to the Allied forces which included Russia. Does Ukraine still have enough gas in the tank to fight.  Yep. But its just a matter of time before they are stretched too thin and the military collapses.

Not really. Ukraine was a special case. Because the great European plains mostly run through Ukraine. If Ukraine had fallen to NATO Russia would have become virtually indefensible to conventional invasion.
