Stop Eating This Popular Meal for Breakfast if You Want to Lose Fat Faster, Metabolic Scientist Says

If you struggle to lose fat and can't help but wonder why, the culprit could be hiding in your daily breakfast.

Many people roll out of bed and start the day with cereal, bagels, muffins, or something equally sugary and starchy. That’s one of the worst things you can do if your goal is fat loss, according to metabolic scientist Ben Bikman, Ph.D.

After fasting overnight, your insulin levels are naturally low, which allows your body to tap into stored fat for energy. But the moment you eat a high-carb breakfast, insulin spikes, shutting down fat burning and locking you into sugar-burning mode.

"Breakfast is almost just a dessert nowadays all over the world where it is just like pure sugar and starch," Bikman says. "The last thing you want to do is spike your insulin with a starchy sugary breakfast

After fasting overnight, your insulin levels are naturally low, which allows your body to tap into stored fat for energy.

Your sugar level should be low in the morning, as cortisol is released to help your body waking up, thanks to insulin released to stabilize it, which can be high. That's why, diabetic (Type 2) people, who are insulin resistant, can have high level of glucose in the morning, without eating anything... and this has nothing to do with your last dinner. The most dangerous thing for your body is sugar BUT also insulin, if released constantly. Fasting in the morning and sport will help. Then, followed by a nice proteins with good fat lunch ...

I eat a big breakfast every day, basically, meat, cheese, and olives. Big lunch, too, but a small dinner.

The meat differs each day, as does the cheese. I'll add an avocado a few times a week. That is Thai chili peppers in the loaf, not Pimento. Very spicy!  The other plate has roast ham.
Kalamata olives are a must! The cheeses vary. In these photos, Cheddar is in one, Edam is in the other.
This is how 'I' lost 30 kilos quickly.  😉

2 to 3 cups of coffee until I take a giant dump.  From there I eat carbs.  A whole grain bagel smothered with natural peanut butter, banana, and some honey.  Then, I walk intensely for one hour and every other day the walk is followed by a 45 minute weight workout.

I think every body is different.   I have tried the high protein in the morning and I get a headache or lose energy during my morning workouts. My blood numbers are always good and blood pressure low so my morning routine seems to work well for me.

Or a side of black beans or pinto beans for protein.  Marinated tempe baked or pan fried is also good.  Someone mentioned olives, I will have to try that too.

You're probably right. And if I were 28 instead of 78, I might choose a different way of eating. But I'm not.

Sorry. It's in a workshop. We don't sterilize it often.

Everybody knows this. Nobody thinks eating pastries for breakfast is good for you. But a lot of people don't care

Protein shake when I get up then 2 other meals during the day.

Been the same size 32 jeans since I was 18.

Healthy or not, I would definitely eat both plates.

a. Cost in time

b. Cost in Baht

Some processed meats are higher quality than others. Like Prosciutto. And actually there's a lot of stuff worse than Prosciutto.

But it's expensive and doesn't fill you up that much, not very high in protein, and not healthy enough for daily consumption.

Breakfast depends on the day. Not working then sometimes a beer and bong is quite nice.

Disagree, as the ham looks decent quality and probably mostly pork, and bologna is one of the best ways to get your healthy organ meat, if like me, won't eat it any other way.  Again, most of ingredients will be pork and or chicken.

Far from ultra processed, and mostly protein & fat, and damn healthy as breakfast & lunch.

Me, after the overnight 2000 hr till sunrise fast, I simply have large cup of black coffee, while on the internet.  Till the dog gives me the time for breakfast stare, between 1100 - 1200 noon.  So an  easy 15 or 16 hr fast.

Brekkie is usually 2 eggs, maybe some protein & fat, like today, chorizo & swiss cheese on a croissant.  Bread is rare at brekkie time, but needed to be eaten.  With all the protein & fat, minimal sugar / insulin spike.

Which is always followed up with a walk at the park or surfside.   Made whole wheat bread today, so that turned into a carb & butter snack.   Made up for it at dinner, nothing be beef, and I'm still stuffed.   So might be an 17 hr fast over night, till noon-ish tomorrow.

Just wondering...  Same size since 18 means a lot if you're now 75.

Not so much if you're 35. I kept the same waist size until I was in my mid-40's, and then started to grow...
How old are you?

49 in a couple months.

I know.....the coffee and doughnuts come in as early as 5am......after the dog comes in and destroys the bedroom.

Full English isn't served until, maybe, 11am....so what the hell she is doing in the intervening period, God only knows......I might need to have a word with her.

My breakfast consists of six scoops of Metamucil. I add strawberries and bananas to it and blend everything together in a blender.

Breakfast does not apply to the time on a clock ...     When you eat your first meal after a night's sleep..  then you "Break your fast"

ate mine early today ..  6eggs, 1/2 pack of bacon, about 1/4 stick of butter, and a 300gram burger

no bread .... no cereals allowed in the house  and I don't eat veggies ...

I don't count calories ..  just a dumb thing to waste time on ...

at least 6 more eggs for meal #2 along with a strip steak already salted and ready for grilling somewhere about 2pm

32" waist and if I'm a hair over 12% bodyfat it would be a miracle.
