Residents in Rayong's Nikhom Phatthana district are on high alert after a two-metre crocodile was spotted on a road following recent floods. The sighting adds to the challenges faced by the area, which has been dealing with significant flash flooding due to persistent rainfall over recent days. Local efforts to assist affected residents include relocating belongings to higher floors and providing support to those in need.

The crocodile was seen in the Makham Khu sub-district as floodwaters receded. A motorist captured video footage of the reptile, which retreated into a spillway. The reptile’s origins remain unknown, and a community leader has since placed warning signs near the area to advise caution.

Adding to the district's woes, a chicken farm owner in Mueang Rayong District suffered catastrophic losses, with floodwaters destroying her farm and killing 50,000 chickens. The damage, valued at approximately 10 million baht, marks the second such incident for the farm, with the first occurring in 2022. The farm owner hoped to sell the chickens on September 18, and compensation details remain unresolved.

Meanwhile, memories linger of 2024 when a crocodile farm owner in Lamphun decided to kill 125 crocodiles to prevent danger to the surrounding community during floods. This incident underscores the ongoing challenges posed by unpredictable weather and its impact on both wildlife and human communities.

Local authorities remain vigilant, monitoring flood levels and wildlife sightings to ensure public safety. Additional discussions on compensation for affected businesses, like the devastated chicken farm, continue as the region seeks to recover.
