This German guy should know better (as should his wife).

Perhaps the wife already has the house and car in her name and the "brother" would like to move in?

Nothing like keeping your head down in Thailand and being low key

Don't bring attention to yourself 😱

Oh wait 🤡 and

Don't get involved in Thai politics unless you are a Thai

I remember that Indian guy getting into big trouble. Was it the 'Reset' campaign?

He is not intelligent because he ignores the social norms that say that foreigners should not inject themselves into political or national security issues in Thailand by participating in domestic political protests. He is not Thai.  He is attending a public event. 40+ years old, wearing an Iron Maiden muscle shirt, sans muscles, covered in ink, and wearing accessories common to 12 year olds. And to top it off, he offers a vacant stare. He is dressed for cleaning out the garden shed or washing the dog. The logical conclusion is that he occupies a lower socio economic tier. Yes, that is a judgemental statement, but Thailand is image conscious and how one is dressed in public speaks volumes.

Great analysis!

Having said that... you say Thailand is image conscious.

Are you Thai?

If not, aren't you image conscious, too?

How easy it is for us to be judgmental of others, while forgetting our own peculiarities.

I totally agree. I now have Thai citizenship and I still keep a low profile.

if you're living Thai in the jungle you couldn't help but get caught up in feeling generated...imho he is supporting his mrs and family and is doing nothing wrong....
others may have a different interpretation

I agree with you too. But, if it backfires, he will be in trouble. Hence, if he avoids these political activities he might be better able to support his Mrs & family.

Not a good idea for farang to get involved in Thai politics or even protests.

This will not end well 😐

If I was Wolfgang I'd be keeping my trap shut. There's some real weirdo's up north, especially when they're full of Lao Kaow. I went to a festival years ago in Yasathon, both days the cops stepped in and stopped the action but not until  the whiskey tent ran dry. Guys were walking around totally of their faces carrying all sorts of weapons. My friends girl friend acted as my body guard carrying a water pipe when I went for a piss. It's far worse if he is in fact a resident there as everyone knows where he lives and his daily routines. He may even die from a Thai heart attack one day, 2 slugs in the back of his head.

If I was Wolfgang

Among the protesters was 48-year-old Markus Ulrich

If his first name really was Wolfgang, he might not have gotten back into Thailand.  🤣😆🤣

No need for me to post, you have all summarized my reaction perfectly. Stay out of Thai politics and respect their right to manage their country, however they please  . . .

As usual, you are completely wrong:

Non-resident=tourist (180 days)
Resident (Over 180 days)
Permanent residency
Thai citizenship

You've missed the point. By "tourist" the commenter intended "outsider" or "foreigner", not legal immigration status.

Farang will always be considered outsiders irregardless of their legal status, fluency in the language or marriage to a local Thai national.

That's just the way it is, in every country.

Drawing attention to oneself in a political rally will invariably result in resentment by some, and potentially revocation of even permanent residency status or citizenship, and expulsion through deportment proceedings, if not criminal charges and imprisonment.

If he thought that by becoming involved he would create a favourable impression of himself with Thais he was making a big mistake.

What an idiot. :coffee1:

I have noticed some people on this forum have commented he is not too bright. If that is his wife holding his left Arm, I agree

I had a similar feeling when I first came to Thailand long ago. They had a long banner running down the street in Hat Yai where all the Thai's were painting birthday wishes on the banner.

I wrote a well wish on the banner. When I turned around this Thai security looking guy was just glaring at me. He had scruitinized every mark I made.

That was my first feeling that foreigners are not welcome to participate fully here. I never forgot that guys stare and feeling of being unwelcome and excluded.

The picture here is probably photoshopped in some way, showing only those he knew well.

This fella doesn’t give a toss about the border.

Virtue signalling has arrived in Thailand.

Look at me.

Guys with Iron Maiden shirts don't usually virtue signal.

Anyhow...

This is great free publicity for the band. I suggest the Trooper album followed by Killers, both great classic Maiden albums.

No I am not Thai. I am subject to daily reminders of dressing and conducting myself appropriately. Thai people, particularly the educated and the financially comfortable are judgemental of non Thais. Manners, and public conduct do matter. It is one of the reasons you will never see someone like Mr. Metallica socializing with Thais who are not in the "service trade".

We may have our own character peculiarities, but almost everyone staying in Thailand on a long term or work visa has the good sense not to participate in a domestic political protest on a sensitive subject.

yeah, sure you get your citizenship revoked. Really? When you are a citizen, one of your rights are to be able to vote.

It's the same here in Thailand with a RTA keep out of it let Thai's sort it out themselves, he's a marked man now especially in them buffalo towns,

Possibly the wife-beater vest. He's probably a very nice guy, but he'd be better off keeping out of local politics.

When this little spat blows over.

This guy may have a nasty surprise,  if he ever has to do a border run.

Good luck,  :stoner:

Yes.

Political involvement in the countries outside home easily invites needless risks otherwise alien.
