Taxi Fare Bangkok.

Airport link train at Phaya Thai station to Asok

Can someone please give the approximate taxi fare from Phaya Thai airport train station to The Key Bangkok Hotel at Asoke? Or would I be better getting a taxi from Makkason train station?

You can get the BTS for these stations and it will cost you very little.

Makkasan is closer - you're looking at 100-130 baht (with Grab) so less than 100 baht in a flag fall taxi.

You can use Google Maps to see the locations of your hotel vs Airport rail link.

Due to traffic regulations / can't turn right onto Asoke from Makkasan, you'll be routed the 'long way round' so it may feel that you are being taken out of your way - the route should take about 15 mins.

Just done the trip from Makkasan to  The Key Hotel at Asoke. there was only one taxi available and the guy wanted 300Baht, knowing the fare should be about 100Baht I offered him 200Baht and he accepted, cheating scumbag.

I have just taken the taxi from Makkasan to The Key Hotel at Asoke I wanted a fixed price and the driver said 300Bt, cheating scumbag, as he was the only taxi there and the fare being about 100Bt, I offered him 200Bt which he accepted. Due to traffic and roadworks the trip took at least 50 mins. I wonder what that would that have cost if it was on the meter?

I didn't give the thumb down - but, you called someone a cheating scumbag for asking 300 baht for a 50+ minute ride.

You talked him down to 200 baht for that 50+ minute ride.

How do you suppose a man can make an honest living and support his family at that rate, when he probably has to rent his car and pay for the fuel?

Is Bolt not operating in Bangkok these days?

Big mistake here. Ride was from Makkason airport train station to Soi 19, a 15 min ride. Ride took 50 mins because of traffic and road works. I asked cost if taxi used meter.

This is a fair comment.

A while ago, I used Bolt car from Sathorn to Nana, Saturday afternoon.

The app quoted if I remember 150 baht, there was lots of traffic, once we arrived the driver pointed out that the fair had changed, it doubled.

So it's hot and cold in Bangkok traffic, delays can cause fares to increase

Bangkok metered taxi's are the cheapest in the world, now they have to compete with the app drivers. Probably got themselves to blame, they never use their meters.

Take a photo of their dashboard ID if you agree on a fare. That will either settle the fare or get you thrown out. Pretend to call Tourist Police. Have a nice ride while checking your travel or health insurance.🙃🙃

I have always thought about that, but surely that is going to upset the driver and he may get violent. I have made a vow never to get involved with any potential violence in Thailand after a talk with a farang friend when I first came here. I have been in Thailand 20 years now and never had any problems.

Agreed. More likely to get violent at the end of the fare. If you do the above prior to moving off you may stand a chance! Only tongue in cheek. Had one issue in 15 years. All of my taxi rides these days are outside of tourist spots & all has been good the last dozen years. Speaking basic Thai helps.🙃🙃

Should have just used MRT or bus, at rush hour.

I was walking with a heavy suitcase, a small case and a shoulder pack for my laptop. otherwise I would have used the MRT.

Your question was quite clear that you wanted to use the Airport Rail Link....

However, I have only ever used this once, and with a very light bag and my Wife picked me up at the station (timed it so she was outside by the time I'd walked down the escalator)....

But, every other time, especially with Baggage, its just not worth the hassle to take the Airport Rail Link IMO...

Taxi is by far the most convenient option (if not using AOT Limo) and the cost is about 500 baht all in which renders messing around with the Rail-Link and then further MRT or Taxi's rather a wasteful endeavor for the purpose of what comes down to the cost of a couple of beers.

You make a good point, and now that I tried Bolt which was highly successful I will do that in the future. ie fare from lower Sukhumvit to Mochit bus terminal, cheating taxi driver 300Bt, Bolt for exact same job, 128 Baht.

Yeah... I always get the The AOT Car (with Thai Elite) so thats a no brainer.

But, when I've flown domestically (and its just me) and travelling very light, I've used the Rail-link and found it takes the same amount of time (door to door) and is a little more hassle, i.e. with aranging onward pickup at destination station...

IMO - the rail link is only really useful for working commuters along that line - its hardly a Narita or KLIA express as it neither saves time or adds convenience....  perhaps unless arriving 5pm on a Friday evening.

Some people troll this site and literally give a thumbs down on every topic they come across.  Most do not seem to have a name or avatar which seems odd.  Often you can click on an avatar or a like/dislike and see who did it.  helps prevent abuse if you can report them if it seems excessive

Likes / dislikes have been anonymous for some time…. Which allows spineless trolls  to overuse their dislikes..

At least some accountability would highlight the prolific twists…

We don’t need to life in an echo chamber of agreement - but it’s clear some sad & pathetic posters just troll with the thumbsdown emoji even when perfectly decent comment have been made…

They don't compete, they use the same apps to get passengers.

Obviously it's now water under the bridge, but if the suitcase has wheels, I would have just taken the MRT, since your hotel is only a three minute walk from Sukhumvit station, and that would have saved a lot of time as well as money. But I can understand not wanting to deal with that hassle.

It very much depends on your exact destination (or origin). I can walk to Makkasan station in 15 minutes, so taking ARL saves me 300 baht or so (but minimal time savings, other than during rush hour). If you need to change to another train line or take a car from the ARL, though, I agree that the extra time and trouble aren't worth the cost savings - and the stations are definitely not designed for the convenience of people with luggage.

We always use Grab taxis value for money

No arguing with the normal taxis over pricing

They are not doing themselves and their business any good

In 3 decades of metered taxi use in Bangkok I’ve encountered only one problem which was amicably resolved.

My last 3 metered taxi rides this year from Silom to BKK were 311 baht, 315 baht and 317 baht.
For a little perspective on this: a taxi ride from Heathrow to say, Oxford Street London would cost 5000 baht for a journey shorter than that from BKK to central Bangkok.

Bangkok taxis are a bargain.
