There are no agents down here in songkhla province that I know of.

For passport renewal agents do not need to be located in your area.

You post EMS pp to agent and agent does the rest.

Not me, but I know an American acquaintance who due to aging/mobility issues relied on Thai agent to renew his expiring in 2 months US passport. He got the passport 9 months later and after the Non O

  • My God, if you can remember a post about a passport problem from 14 years ago, you need to get a Mensa medal, or get a life!

  • Why not? Are you worried that they might read this thread and cancel your new passport in a huff?

I don't think you understand the nature of the problem Dr.

If I overstay say by 10 days and show up at immigration with my new passport, my nationality is irrelevant.

They will treat me like every other nationality

What difference would it make if I'm Lithuanian, Hungarian or Mexican?

Zero.

Either they will throw the book at me or let it pass.

So why not disclose your nationality?

Or is the whole post *****

Previously it was 10 years. Then, they decided to treat everybody as children that are still growing

Serious. Was not aware of that.

Thought it was 10 years

I thought that most passports for EU countries were valid for 10 years for adults and 5 years for children up to the age of 18. I think Belgium is 7.
A little bit of googling confirms my thoughts are correct.

It's not about the overstay.

It's information regarding pp renewal process for your mythical embassy.

Eventually we see your pp is not part of application process.

Now you red herring to overstay issues.

Very unhelpful OP.

Maybe you have to re-read my first post.

I'm not on overstay but I will be in late Dec,when passport and visa expire simultaneously and new passport hasn't arrived yet.

Thanks for the replies guys

I will get back to you after a visit at immigration tomorrow.

Over and out🙏

There might be a 'grace' period

There is no grace period, period. Its up to you to get you passport current.

I had this experience a few years ago, and I had to renew my visa extension also. Embassy issued me an emergency/temporary passport (green color) with a letter for immigration,.

About 1 week later new passport was ready, and went back to immigration to move the extension to new passport

Well, mine is 5, and it's been so for quite some time. And I'm definitely not a child.

Just checked all my old passports. The last one with more than 5 years was to be renewed in 2012. Since then they are all 5 years.

Wasn't aware that the individual EU members still could decide on validity.

But as expected, the bureaucrats with nothing better to do just justifying their jobs by making stupid rules.

Obscure EU country

Sorry..can't disclose the name.

Passport and non-O (ret) expire late Dec.

I was delayed by some personal issues...

Tried to book an appointment with the embassy today and the earliest slot is in 50 days😱

Normally no more than a few days.

My only worry is immigration...overstay fine, no problem

Btw...could I get busted/deported in the interim period?

fly home and renew

Yeah that makes sense to me.

If they take the old passport to process the renewal and there's a high risk the new one won't arrive in time, leaving Thailand on the old passport to apply from home country is a sure but likely very expensive solution.

... which is what I did 2 weeks ago when my not-yet-expired UK passport became almost full, thanks to one-page Lao and Myanmar visa stamps (6 empty pages suddenly became 1 free page...). Too long to wait to get a new passport posted to Laos - I jumped on a plane to the UK, collected my new passport in a 4-hour turnaround time and got back on the plane.....  Expensive but problem sorted!

And with your extensive experience you could not foresee that...

= poor planning.

Rubbish reply from you (as usual).  I had to make several unexpected trips to/from Myanmar and Laos.

So why not carry photocopies of the pages in your passport or even easier photos in your smartphone of these pages, or take smartphone photos of these pages and e.mail them to yourself.

50 days wait for an embassy appointment. Is this the Australian embassy? Or the name of the country is a total secret?

Wow, such intrigue...

It helps if you read thread.

The OP is Romanian.

In any event Oz pp renewal can be done completely online.

No visit to embassy required.

The EU doesn't have such a rule. Many EU countries issue passports that are valid for 10 years.

I'm not sure what you expect immigration to tell you. You need to have a valid passport at all times while you're in Thailand and immigration cannot waive this requirement for you. This is your responsibility, plain and simple.

If you cannot ensure that you can renew your passport before it expires, your only safe option is to fly home before and to apply for your new passport back home.

My old UK passport expired in June 2024 and I went through an agent in February 2024. I learned that the new passport could take up to 3 months so I applied early, paid the agent and my new passport was back in 3 weeks,

Simple, easy and no hassle. Always apply at the earliest opportunity, just in case there is a problem.

All I did was fill in the form, send it by registered post to the agent, transfer the fee and wait 3 weeks for my new passport.

I found the agent through AN, though I cannot remember the agency now.

That is what I did last year. I live in rural Kamphaeng Phet and the agency I used was in Samut Prakan IIRC.

Interesting. I was under the impression that an emergency passport was good only for travel to back to your own country.  And also assumed that immigration here would be, 'reluctant' let's say, to stamp an extension in an 'emergency/temporary' passport. So they did issue the stamp in your emergency passport, if I understand what you're saying. And then transferred that stamp to the new regular passport after you got it. And if so, I'm guessing you perhaps 'lost' at least a few days from any previously-held 'until date' pattern for annual extensions. Not that that's a biggie. You got the issue resolved.

VinnieK, respectfully, you'll probably be told at the immigration office there is no 'grace period' for extending your stay.  But you might be told about 'creative $solution$' to overcome your issue, which could possibly involving third partie$. So there's that

I understand you are way down south. You might consider getting up to Bangkok and presenting yourself at your embassy and pleading mercy with your country's embassy personnel.

The 'asking forgiveness before asking permission' approach.

If that results in a successful outcome, with a new passport on the way, and plenty of time before your current extension ends, that would be fine, right?
