Goddam it, my fridge just broke!

Not sure where to post this ..........

Lg 9 cubic foot inverter fridge freezer, only 4 years 4 months old and it's broken, cost 9,000bht new

Everything in the freezer melted, no ice.

Wasn't happy about the fridge door wear either, seems the surface is silver paper and not metal

(This is after my Samsung fridge failed after 5 years cost 8,000bht new)

No point buying LG or Samsung again, premium price for low quality product.

So a quick browse of Lazada for a 9Q, 2 door fridge freezer gets me

Hisense 8.8Q fridge freezer from Lotussssss for 5,275bht

I guess at that price if it lasts 4 years I'll be happy enough!

Is it just me with the dodgy fridges, I remember back in the UK in the 1960s the fridge lasted 20 years before it broke.

No, there's no dirt, the 'Silver effect' paper finish on the door has worn through.

If you rub it hard, more paper falls off.

My Mitsubishi Electric is 13+ years old and going strong but I'd buy TCL next, better value

What to expect for just 200-250$ to have 4-5 years out of it is reasonable. Same with the samsung laundry machines for 5k ish.

Brands say little too, just random, one brand is not going to be better for a 1-2k price difference.

Actually, a few months ago I was in that same boat - we were renting a house while our daughter was in college in Bangkok and the fridge just stopped cooling.  I went on line to see if there might be an easy fix but wifie said nope, let's check with the local repairmen.  Called one and they showed up immediately,  Landlord said the fridge was only 4 years old so shouldn't be broken.  Repairman looked at the make of fridge and said a common problem witht the well-known maker.  Took him maybe 45 minutes and fridge was cooling like new.  Said it was a common problem  with that make so easy to fix.  Was really cheap for that 45 minutes too.  So, now am back in CM - my advice is to check with a local repair shop and they will can advise possible cost and fixes.  Best of luck.

Looked at TCL, but no 9Q size, sizes seem to jump from 7Q to 17Q.

And delivery dates were a bit iffy.

Usually the inverters that break and easy to replace with repair indeed

I've had my Samsung over 7 years and still okay. The weather here, especially if you don't have AC in the kitchen, has refrigerators working harder.

If the crappy door finish hadn't worn through, I would have considered repair.

But as Trans pointed the worn door finish just looks dirty.

We have one of those LG's the doors went the same way, nasty. Got a Mitsubishi as well thats still ok after 13 years

Premium price? lol

Do yourself a favour and spend more money on a Mitsu Electric... best fridge I ever owned, though all probably put together by china automatons now. Never mind.

I bought a new fridge a couple of years ago at HomePro. Looked at four or five models from different brands. I asked the sales guy which one he would buy. He said only a Japanese brand, specifically Hitachi, not the Korean ones. He said the Japanese models are built better, some parts have lifetime warranties, and Hitachi has separate fans for the fridge and freezer. It also has a door alarm that sounds if you leave it open for more than a minute. The Korean models didn't have that.

I went with the Hitachi. No issues so far. A few years in and the layout inside is well designed, all usable space, and the shelves are glass instead of plastic. Price was only slightly higher than the Korean brands by less than 1,000 Baht. I wouldn’t buy a Samsung or LG fridge.

Yeah, me too, but double the price.

So what was the make and the easy repair?

I had a big Haier chest freezer, lasted 3 years, but at least it was cheap.

10 year warranty, so you could have them pick it up and repair it, as long as you have the proof of purchase.

Yep. Me too. That's what I got.

Still won't fix the worn surface of the doors, better rid of it.

I prefer a nice new clean looking door, and a replacement within 4 days.

Your fridge is in a square corner.   That's 90 degrees.   Way too hot!!

My Samsung fridge is almost twenty years old, and it has been moved a few times including up three two flights of stairs.

Still works perfect and the brushed-stainless finish still looks great, except for a few dings from moving.

My first Mitsubishi is still working after 20 years as we gave it to my wifes family about 5 years ago and still going strong

5 years ago we purchased a new Mitsubishi Inverter  type and within about 2 years the freezer stopped

it cost 12k and had to pay about 2k to get it repaired

The local repair shop says the inverter types are <deleted>e and they are always fixing them.

I looked recently at replacing my Mitsubishi Electric, around 25k vs TCL 10k, Japanese can't compete anymore

Samsung quality has been going down for years, probably due to production in other countries, wouldn't buy them anymore

Samsung Tvs seem ok but would not buy ac/microwave/fridge

Hisense would be even worse.

Real quality costs money, Bosch have a store on Lazada.

If you want it cheap then Hitachi is the best option.

I certainly would not trust a Hisense fridge.

Samsung have some of the best microwaves money can buy.
