Snoopy probably had some hot babes with him when he met this fella.  It was easy to seduce this 23 yr old with lifestyle dreams.

Probably made just holding a suitcase for a quick 20k baht sound so easy and effortless.  No way the cops will ever find out...

Agreed. It would be interesting to know who informed on him, and why.

   As this is  ASEANNOW :

He probably bought a  ladyboy back to his room , found out she was post op and only paid her half the agree price and offered her some meth , the ladyboy told her tuk tuk driver boyfriend about only getting paid half of the money and some meth .

The tuk tuk driver boyfriend then told the police about the Meth and the police gave him half the suitcase full and prosecuted him for the other half

Stupid, stupid, stupid and also very sad.  I can’t even imagine what is going on in his head right now.

So " Snoopy " told Wilson , Yo Man can you hold my Tea packs till my buyer comes to pick them ? Give you 20.000 bhat . Man Snoopy of course I do that for you . What could go wrong ? 😂

Simply unbelievable that someone would take such a risk. And then with 9 kilos! The idiot should have known that the Thais, with such large quantities, make no distinction whether the stuff is discovered at customs, merely in possession, or being traded. That’s guaranteed to mean 20 years or more in the monkey house.

Free will does not exist according to  Stanford professor and neuroscientist Robert Sapolsky argues that free will is an illusion because our choices and behaviors are entirely determined by factors beyond our control, such as biology, genetics, environment, and past experiences. In his book Determined: A Science of Life Without Free Will, Sapolsky concludes that science demonstrates our actions are causally determined, leaving no room for genuine autonomous choices.

Sapolsky's Argument for Determinism
  • Biological Influences:
Sapolsky, a leading expert in human and primate behavior, argues that our actions are governed by a cascade of biological and environmental factors.
    Neurochemical Determinants:
  • He emphasizes that neurochemical processes in the brain, influenced by everything from hormones to past experiences, completely determine our behavior.
    External and Internal Factors:
  • He states that our choices are influenced by a combination of biological and environmental factors, including genetics, childhood experiences, hormones, and life circumstances, all of which are outside our control.
Implications of a World Without Free Will
  • Justice and Morality:
Sapolsky suggests that a world without free will could lead to a more just society by removing the basis for individual moral responsibility, which is often tied to the concept of free choice.
  • Rethinking Punishment:
He questions whether individuals should be judged or praised for actions that are ultimately predetermined.

It was neat because it wasn't true🙃🙃
Billy Hayes was actually in a prison on an island, and after he made-good his escape
he climbed into a rowing boat that was on the beach and rowed away to freedom.

All of that stuff about the prison guard being about to rape him, and then using his uniform and keys to escape was untrue.

Thanks. I watched the movie many years ago - thought it was accurate and have now found the documentary to which you referred earlier.

I'm always amazed that so many AN members know exactly all the details about how the drug trade in Thailand works, although they neverr touch drugs.

I guess it are the same ones tht know the price for a hitman etc

All the westerners who endulge in such illegal activities. Must be more then stupid to do so in countries that have harsh laws on these criminals. But people just never learn....the western media would need to make more news on all the foolish westerners who think they can make a fast buck in such criminal activities.

However eminent Prof Sapolsky may be, I would disagree with the sentence that includes "...... free will is an illusion because our choices and behaviors are entirely determined by factors beyond our control....."  (My emphasis)

To me, that's either just psychobabble or a "copout" allowing people to blame others for their errors of judgement / poor decisions which is unfortunately increasingly common.

You're right.

But, as you say, they never learn, so no matter how much appears in the media, these idiots still think they know better!

The hell with them - they've done the crime, now do the time and stop whinging!

I am sure you are right and you must be must be much smarter than Prof Sapolsky, who is obviously just a "copout."

Looking at him, I hope he has enough lube to reflect his prison time, if found guilty! 😍

Thank you - very kind of you to acknowledge that 👍😉

In all seriousness, academics may be very intelligent, but i do think a lot of them lack "street smarts" or just plain old common sense.

Not knowing the Prof. I have no idea whether he falls into this category or not.

A 23-year-old British man has been arrested in Bangkok after police found more than 9 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine in his hotel room. Officers from Metropolitan Police Division 5 detained Mr. Wilson George Henry Allaway with the drugs, which were packed in bags and stored inside a large suitcase. He now faces charges of possessing and distributing a category 1 narcotic with intent to sell.

The arrest took place on 30 September 2025 following a tip-off from an informant who reported that a foreign man was keeping drugs in a hotel on Sukhumvit Soi 11, Bangkok. The suspect had checked into a fourth-floor room and was reportedly waiting to deliver the narcotics to a customer, possibly out of the country. Fearing the drugs might be moved or destroyed, police decided to proceed without a search warrant and coordinated with hotel staff to access the room.

When officers knocked on the door, Mr. Allaway opened it and police identified themselves before explaining the search. As he did not speak or read Thai, Police Lieutenant Colonel Phongthanin Bumrungsuksawasti, who speaks English, translated the request. Inside, officers found a pink SWISS+ brand suitcase on the bed containing 10 packets branded GUANYIN tea, each filled with crystal methamphetamine, weighing a total of 9,152 grams.

Mr. Allaway admitted the drugs were his and was informed he would be arrested for “selling a type 1 narcotic (methamphetamine or crystal meth) with intent to distribute.” He was taken, along with the evidence, to Metropolitan Police Division 5 to complete the arrest report. The suspect later told police that he had received the drugs from another British man known only as “Snoopy” and was being paid 20,000 baht to store them before passing them on to a buyer.

The case has now been handed to investigators at Lumpini Police Station for further legal proceedings. Authorities are expected to pursue the source of the narcotics and identify the man referred to as “Snoopy.” Mr. Allaway remains in custody pending the outcome of the investigation and formal charges.

"arrested for “selling a type 1 narcotic...". To split hairs, like a decent lawyer should, where is the evidence he was 'selling'? Not saying he could claim drugs were 'for personal use' 😉

Not a good career choice, ya think?

Maybe additional evidence the human brain is not set til late 20's

In the UK  there is an offence of "being concerned in th supply" probably something similar exists here, I'm not falling for the now very tired stock excuse of  "I was looking after it for a stranger"   rubbish, he was in this up to his neck

I'm no lawyer, but if they can decide to proceed without a warrant, what's the point of applying for one?

warrants are only required for influential people ,  The time taken to have one issued gives them time to abscond or whatever other action they need to complete prior to their being  searched and or arrested

This courtesy would be unlikely to be extended to a 23 y/o foreign drug mule

This  is the first drugs story I have ever read which does not include a mention of the "street value" of the drugs involved.

The kid ruined his life.

If he hadn't accepted 20K to "look after a suitcase for me" then could still argue case wasn't his and had no idea what was in it etc. After all, if someone you think you know says "mate, I've got to check out of my hotel, can I leave a bag at your hotel for a few days", you might agree.

Of course ignorance is no defence under Thai law so he's done. Stupid stupid mistake - right now as I type this he's starting his first morning of many thousands behind bars in Thailand.

From the clip it literally had his flip-flops/sandals on it in the pink case. Cinderella gone wrong.

30 year in jail before deportert and have to pay for his overstay too.

I'm guessing that if the property owner (Hotel) approved and let them into the roomthere shouldn't be a problem. The guest broke the hotel rules by storing illegal goods, which would negate the T&Cs.

Don't know the law in Thailand but proceeding without a search warrant is allowed?

As mentioned in the OP - The police feared the drugs might have been moved or destroyed and Thai Law allows for a warrantless search in such cases.

Thai police need a search warrant to lawfully search a private room — but there are important exceptions (exigent/catching-in-the-act, risk evidence will be destroyed, consent, hot pursuit, etc.).

Hotel rooms are considered private rooms under Thai law so they would normally need a warrant to enter a hotel room.
