An Iranian man who impersonated a police officer and robbed an Indian tourist in Pattaya has been arrested following a detailed investigation by Bang Lamung police, who reviewed footage from more than 70 CCTV cameras. The suspect allegedly stole US$300 before fleeing, but was later tracked down and detained in the same area where he had earlier eaten after the crime. The arrest has been praised as a swift and effective response to an incident.

The case began on October 1, 2025, when an Indian tourist filed a report with investigators at Bang Lamung Police Station. The victim stated that two Iranian men on a motorcycle stopped him near Little Walk on Sukhumvit Road, introduced themselves as police officers and demanded to search his belongings. During the supposed inspection, one of the men allegedly took US$300 in cash and quickly left the scene.

Investigators launched an extensive review of more than 70 CCTV cameras along the suspects’ escape route. They discovered that the perpetrators had rented a motorcycle from a shop in Soi Naklua 16 before committing the robbery. The footage showed them fleeing through several streets including South Pattaya Road, Soi Kor Phai, Soi Krom Ti Din, and the area behind Tukcom. They later exchanged the stolen money at a currency exchange in the Khao Phra Tamnak area, returned the rented motorcycle and took a Grab ride to Soi Yensabai in South Pattaya, where they bought Iranian food.

On October 4, police identified one of the suspects when he returned to the same restaurant in Soi Yensabai. Officers confirmed his identity as Mr. Noureddin Morteza Imani, an Iranian national, matching the description captured in CCTV footage. He was found with a Samsung Galaxy A05 mobile phone, a Patek Philippe watch and the face mask used during the robbery. Mr. Imani reportedly confessed, claiming he “thought Thai police would not be able to catch him.”

Authorities described the case as a serious and shocking crime because the suspect impersonated a police officer and targeted a tourist in broad daylight. Mr. Imani is now in custody at Bang Lamung Police Station, where he faces legal proceedings under the law.

Key Takeaways

• Iranian suspect posed as a police officer and robbed an Indian tourist of US$300 in Pattaya.

Good to see how quickly police can act when their revenue stream is threatened

Sad to see how cynical everyone is about authorities.

Without police protecting you, you'd be dead a long time ago.

And even if they cheat a little, they don't get paid much to risk their lives.

It always "amuses" me watching rioters in the UK kicking and spitting at the police.

They'd be to a man, the first to scream the police do something to protect them or their own in different circumstances.

It just shows how detailed the multiple CCTV cameras are, capable of tracking fugitives up & down various sois.  It is a rare thing for me to praise Pattaya's (invisible) police; well done the BIB.

He was arrested for working without a permit. Robbing Indians is a job only Lady Boys can do in Pattaya.  Shame. Shame.   Also Good on Ya BIB, you are getting better at your jobs it appears.

How does that work?

There's a lot of impersonating a police officer in Thailand.

I'm surprised that they could see the wood from the trees. :whistling:

Yes, and many of them yell 'I pay your wages' despite not having paid tax and being on benefits!

Congrats and well done Thai police here!

This will not happen to him in Thailand. In Iran it´s usual.

They had no choice because the Iranian was muscling into their territory and he had to be caught as all costs !

Maybe the police need to work on contract, solve a crime you get paid, do nothing, get nothing

I would think that an Iranian claiming to be police in Thailand would be reason to suspect his authenticity.

What amazes me is that you can buy army, police and monks uniforms just about anywhere

Agree.

Iranians don't look like Thais. Why would you comply? I'd ask them for ID and a verse of the Thai national anthem first 😄

I've heard of people craning their necks to get a better look but this is ridiculous.

I thought some Police were paid for solving crimes.  My understanding was Joe Ferrari received a portion of the money for the sale of the high end cars that were imported illegally.

Obviously being a policeman didn't pay enough

Not necessarily.  It's a psychological result.  Starts making money, buys high end cars, expensive house, gets some power, then like a drug you want more and more.  Thinking that people admire you because they show interest when you're throwing money around.  I'll ask you this, when the money dries up are they still hanging around?
