October 7, 2025Oct 7 The last few weeks, I haven't been topping up my phone. I usually give to Kia a girl I know, and she goes to a machine and tops it up while I'm sitting in the bar and having a drink, but I forgot. So last night it ran out. So I went on the internet and looked at how to top up using a credit card. Simple. I was thinking of 1000 Baht. It was only looking at the prices I realised if I top up with 1000 Baht, the charge to me was $37 instead of the going rate of $30 (Bangkok Bank rate). I don't mind a commission, but $7 on a $30 spend. So this afternoon I'm going to my normal bar and get Kia to go and top it up for me.
October 7, 2025Oct 7 Next time you go to the little orange machine (about 10000 in the country) and do it on your own. English menu, not rocket science. Maybe some change needed. Quote Customers choose "Top Up" menu Enter mobile number or select dtac prepaid Select top up amount Put money with fees (Service fee depends on top-up machines) Customers will receive automatic top up followed by confirmation SMS on successful top up activity Now that DTAC has been swallowed by True it might even be possible at 7/11. But not sure. I am on AIS, phone use goes to 0 (internet is on second SIM). 1000 Baht? 10 Baht (+2 fee) per month is enough for me 😁 https://www.dtac.co.th/en/prepaid/services/refill-channel.html
October 7, 2025Oct 7 I used to top up through the DTAC app, if I remember right, but I haven’t done it in the last three months since I’ve been out of the country.

October 7, 2025Oct 7 Erm, @roger101 how is it possible that your credit runs out? Normally we top up and then buy a package that covers these things. For example, I have a package that serves unlimited data and unlimited calls. 200 baht per month. It doesn't make good sense to top up 1000 baht, as it only adds one month of validity to your SIM. Better that she tops up in increments of 100 baht and you get yourself a package, in so you don't use up your credit.

October 8, 2025Oct 8 @roger101 If done in 100 baht increments, it would be showing valid until October next year. So what happens to the 1000 baht? How do you use it?
October 14, 2025Oct 14 I top up my DTAC SIM at 7/11. Usually, 1000 baht each time. Good for one year from date topped up.

DTAC app shows refill and method of payment that includes credit/debit card - fill in the standard information (VISA and MC typically) and if the card is valid there should be no problem.
October 14, 2025Oct 14 Can't find anywhere else to ask this. I am looking for a fast internet connection, preferably with a SIM card. Any recommendations, please?

October 18, 2025Oct 18 The Orange Box outside 7-11 is pretty easy. There's also a simple site called mobiletopup.com. It also can do sim validity extension. It stopped taking my US cards recently though.
