Thailand is set to host the "Grand Diwali Celebration," targeting 100,000 Indian travelers, with anticipated annual arrivals reaching a record 2.5 million. Puneet Kochhar, director of Kochhar Travel in Delhi, states Thailand remains a top overseas destination for Indian tourists, particularly from Delhi and Mumbai. This festival aims to tap into travel preferences from Gujarat and Maharashtra, countering the trend of staying home during Diwali.

Despite rising interest in other Southeast Asian destinations like the Philippines and Vietnam, Thailand remains unmatched in popularity among Indian travelers. Nikorn Sachdev from the Indian Association of Thailand credits a robust Indian economy, visa-free access, and more frequent flights as factors boosting tourism. Recent incidents, such as an escalator issue at Bangkok's Surasak BTS station, have not deterred Indian tourism confidence, with experts emphasizing well-managed crowd plans for future events.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is organizing the "Amazing Thailand Grand Diwali Festival 2025" from Oct 16-31 in Bangkok's Ong Ang Canal and Pahurat areas. TAT Governor Thapanee Kiatphaibool describes it as the largest Diwali celebration outside India, featuring advanced safety measures like AI detection. As of October 7, 1.82 million Indian tourists have visited Thailand, marking the country as a top inbound market with an average visit duration of 6.6 nights.

Looking ahead, Thailand expects 2.2-2.5 million Indian arrivals this year, a historic peak. In November and December, the TAT plans to launch an Indian passport privilege campaign with shopping malls, offering special benefits at Central Department Stores in Bangkok, Pattaya, and Patong. This initiative projects a 30% increase in Indian visitors at CentralWorld in October.

Key Takeaways

  • Thailand aims to attract 100,000 visitors with its "Grand Diwali Celebration."
  • Indian tourists continue to favor Thailand, supported by economic and travel incentives.
  • The TAT expects record-breaking Indian tourist arrivals this year.

I think a lot of Indians are coming to Thailand to celebrate Diwali while in their home country they will celebrate it with the people they love and neighbours.. Has Thailand in fact any idea of other festivities in countries than in Thailand?? Here it is Songkran, Loy Kratong, 1000 miss elections, fairs, New Year Lisa celabrations. And other fetivals they try to copy.. as Christmas, Chinese New Year, Diwali, etc, but copies are never as good as the original

Diwali, or Navaratri, is a beautiful festival for Thai-Indians. Some homes in our mooban put out their oil lamps. Indians are peaceful neighbours and their food is great for vegetarians.

It probably does, it is up to Thailand who they do and do not invite into Thailand not some self important long term farang visitor who thinks he has the right to try and dictate what goes on here even though he has no rights at all.

There are millions of middle class professional Indian people with probably a lot more than your two pounds six shilling and sixpence a day to spend.😄

I remember being in Wales for a weekend and we stayed at a bed and breakfast.

The owner said she never lets the rooms out to Australians as many have nicked the bed sheets and towels during their backpacking tours of the UK.

My bother had a block of twenty flats in central London, they were never let out to Australians as the flats would be rented out to an Australian couple and then three other couples would sneak in a stay during the tenancy.

Many of the flats were rented out to wealthy Thai students during their three/four year university studies in London.

Maybe they were Jewish Australians?

The bodybuilt tatooed bald western bikers will be very angry as there will be no more LB left for their convenience.

Cannot say for those comming to Thailand, but when I went to New Delhi and Bombay last year (Mumbai), I definately saw much more wealth on the roads and glitter and glass all over, compared to Brimingham or Liverpool or even some areas of NYC and Paris.
