A Thai man has been arrested by police after physically attacking a 50-year-old American man in South Pattaya, with the victim praising authorities for a swift arrest. The incident occurred at approximately 02:00 on 9 October 2025 in Soi 16, Pattaya Second Road and was captured clearly on CCTV. Officers from Pattaya City Police Station acted quickly after the case came to light.

The suspect, Mr. Boontan, also known as Don, 37, a Bolt motorcycle driver, confessed to the assault when presenting himself to police on 10 October. He said that while on duty, he swerved his motorcycle to avoid a taxi and accidentally grazed the foreigner. The victim reacted by raising his arm and saying he intended to take photographs for a report, which enraged Boontan. He admitted the attack was “a moment of anger” and expressed regret, stating he wanted to apologise to the victim if given the chance.

Mr. Quincy Nguyen Tran, the victim, later met police and spoke to the media, describing the incident as distressing and unexpected. He said it caused him fear and disappointment, especially as he frequently visits Thailand and loves the country. Quincy stressed that he wanted the police to take full legal action to prevent similar assaults on other tourists.

Following the meeting, Boontan approached the victim in the presence of police and media to offer a personal apology, bowing his head in remorse. Mr. Quincy expressed gratitude to the Pattaya police for locating and arresting the suspect, commending the investigative team and thanking the media for reporting the case to ensure justice. The Pattaya City Police’s arrest unit has now handed Boontan over to the investigating officers for prosecution under the law.

Well he might have praised the authorities for a swift arrest, but it does sound like the guy walked into the police station and gave himself in.

Where did that THai smile go to?

So the invisible Pattaya police sat back and the miscreant handed himself in: then the BIB reap praise for this attitude to policing?

500 baht fine......

They both got aggressive and the Thai ended it with a kick to the head.  He should have been fined much more so he might control his temper next time.  I hope the Thai realizes that the kick could have resulted in a much worse outcome for him and the tourist.  Life in the fast lane...

The guy is lucky he's not in hospital with broken bones walking in the middle of the road.

Looks like a good pavement to walk on.

When I'm at my house in Bangkok I walk for at least 90 minutes every morning. After several misses and falls I've banned myself from my 90 minutes walk in Pattaya. Cars and motor riders are reckless even in a tight situation, throw in the soi dogs on the prowl and let's not forget the NPP's the   Notorious Pattaya Pavers.

Pro tip: in SE Asia, walk facing traffic so you can see them coming.

Amazing how the attitude goes from uncontrolled aggression to absolute remorse once caught and apprehended, and once shown video evidence of their miscreant and emotionally juvenile behavior.

I was on a motorbike taxi yesterday and some delivery guy came really close to his bike, swerving through traffic and my driver got so angry he started cursing this guy out, following him, chasing him and verbally abusing him non-stop. I told him to just pull over, I'm getting off, I don't want to have any part of this, he apologized to me and dropped me off. Yikes.

So he would have to walk in the opposite direction to where he was going? Dumb tip!

There are exceptions to every rule and one way traffic is one of them. Guess you havent been in SE Asia very long.

The police put the pressure on, by publicizing that they were looking for the thug. word got back to the assailant. An effective method of bringing in petty criminals like this.

Sidewalk was blocked with vendors and  other crap. look at the amount of pedestrians forced into the road.

I doubt the elderly tourist was "looking for trouble".

I get twisted ankles from the uneven pavement. Dodging between walls and low hanging cables and lamp posts or posts doesn't help. I am lucky glad I am not in a wheelchair or needing to use a cane as Thailand is not place for people with mobility impairments.

Typical yank. Gets all aggressive then starts complaining when he gets put in his place.

Tell us how many Sois between,  lets say Sukhumvit Soi 50 and Sukhumvit Soi 3 in Bangkok are one way?

Tell us how many non sidewalked Sois in Pattaya are one way?

Chances are little fella, if there isnt a sidewalk it isnt one way and smart folks walk facing traffic.

Really? I would deprive myself of your daily examples of utter mindlessness? I dont think so LOL

Oh, it seems most here would prefer to walk in the middle of the road opposed to a pavement that may not be perfect.

Yep, these are the type of foreigners arriving in Thailand with all the moaning and whining

Again he would have had to walk away from his destination if he was to walk against the traffic.
