An Italian tourist, Marco De Vivo, was discovered at Pattaya Police Station with no identification or belongings, holding just a hotel room key. This prompted police and locals to take swift action to assist him. De Vivo reported losing all his items, including his passport, after a night out at a local bar two days prior.

Following his appearance at the station, efforts to help quickly gathered momentum online. Concerned residents and expats suggested ways to trace his hotel, recommending checks with the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) and the TM30 database, which monitors foreign visitors' accommodations. One resident recalled him mentioning staying at a hotel on Bua Khao Alley, urging police to consult registration systems.

The incident highlights the supportive nature of the local community, with many offering advice like carrying hotel business cards or taking photos of the front desk to assist in such situations. The experience resonated with locals who praised Pattaya's welcoming atmosphere.

Under Thai law, hotels must report foreign guests’ details within 24 hours, which aids in locating missing tourists. Authorities and local community members are actively collaborating to identify De Vivo's hotel and return him to his belongings. Currently, he is being looked after by international officers and is anticipated to reunite with his accommodation soon.

Key Takeaways

  • Marco De Vivo lost all possessions, prompting local assistance.
  • Online community suggests using digital systems to locate his hotel.
  • Incident underlines the importance of carrying hotel information.

Could mean volunteers or officers who speak the language.

Unlikely "liaison" officers from foreign police organisations ( who reportedly exist).

The "quality tourists" Thailand loves to attract. But for the other more decent foreigners, say those who own property in Thailand and do spend a bit, the immigration chaps will fuss and harass and make all kinds of absurd rules for the visas. Not surprising the retirees, who can.... are selling off their property in Thailand and chosing other more friendly countries to set up base.

Common occurrence for foreigners in Pattaya.

Welcome to Pattaya Mr. De Oppo

And how is one re-united with one's accommodation.?

They mean he went back to his room.

He'll be telling that story for years to come.

Too much vino???

But what a memorable event, Jesus, I could dine out for free on his story for at least a decade.

Did I ever mention that time I lost my scooter for a fortnight until I drunkenly stumbled across it in a location I swear to God that I'd never been before, or since?  Oh wait....:coffee1:

No ,  the police tried the lock on every hotel room  in pattaya until they found a door where the key fitted the lock and then let him in his room.

Going out in Pattaya with his Passport...maybe another Ladyboy story he doesn't want us to tell and in the Italian Media ! Jerk !

Distorted perspective.  The requirements are pretty well documented.  Proof is pretty well known what is expected.  Understand they are required by their superiors to only submit documents that meet the requirements for approval.  Oh forgot.  You are a foreigner and they should roll out the red carpet, offer you a drink and snack, a private lounge right?

Gladly go through process and troubles to live as close to paradise as I can afford.  I'm kind, respectful, appreciative and they seem to notice as it is a quick process now.

So why can't the cops match his photo that is taken when you enter Thailand to his photo taken here?

They would have all his passport details?

There are foreigners working as "Thai Tourist Police"? I thought they only used some volunteers for interpreting, but these guys look like regular policemen.

How can you get lost in Pattaya it's only the size of a postage stamp 🤣😂

I was expecting a photo of a buck naked man holding a key.

Disappointed.

TBH, most foreign volunteers would have a hard job translating into Thai, (based on my yonks of experience working as a TPV)...
