Getting your Omega 3 fatty acids in Thailand

I've never sat down and calculated my daily consumption. But here's a quick look at my usual meals.
I eat the same breakfast every day, changing the 'type' of meat (usually for some type of sausage) each day. Also, changing the type of cheese each day. But a cup of Kalamata olives and a block of cheese is a constant. 2-3 days a week I'll add in an avocado, for another 150 calories. This is well over 1,500 just for breakfast.

Lunch is either a Thai meat dish or a 'few' plates at the German buffet restaurant.  I don't eat the cakes or pastries, so I have plenty of room for more sausage, pork leg, and chicken!

We make dinner at home, varying the ethnicities between Mexican, Italian, Japanese, Chinese, German, and East Coast American. But once again, heavy on the meats.

How many calories is that?

That looks like an AIRLINE Fork....Am I right?

And, what is that other tool you are using, the one with the broken plastic handle and rusted piece of metal that looks like an ice-pick?

You seem to be eating a LOT of fried foods.

I do not eat fried foods, or have not for at least 5 years.

But, if I want to eat fried foods, I am in luck, now that I have recently purchased a Rinnai gas stove (overpriced by the way because this kind of stove should be a LOT cheaper than what they are charging).

I would say that fried foods are OK, but that one should not eat preserved meats.

However, this is only what I would say, and not what others might say.

So, it's just my opinion, rather unschooled, I would further say.

It's just a blog but was the first thing that came up in a Google search. But there are a lot of valid research results out there.

I'll have tuna fish mixed with mayo several days per week, salmon fillets at least once a week, eating out is all about seafood usually a whole sea bass on the table, use olive oil for everything grilled. And I eat pumpkin seeds constantly, least 3-4 small packets a day.

Thai pla tuu fish is common here, affordable and has Omega 3. Mackerel family.

Tin of sardines on toast. Easy.

I thought sardines were safe from heavy metals.

Then watched a Joe Rogan podcast. He was eating sardines every day and his doctor told him he had high levels of arsenic.

I stopped eating fish, apart from the occasional indulgence.

And I stopped trying to chase down Omega 3s altogether as I don't think those supplements are safe either.

How does this balance your Omega-3 with your Omega-6?
Seems like overdosing on the Omega-3
From PerplexityAI:
The optimum ratio for omega-3 to omega-6 fatty acids is generally considered to be around 1:1 to 1:4. Most experts agree that maintaining a ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 closer to 4:1 is ideal for reducing inflammation, improving heart health, and supporting brain function. Historically, human diets had a ratio near 1:1, but modern diets often have much higher ratios of omega-6 to omega-3, sometimes as high as 15:1 or 20:1, which is linked to increased risk of chronic inflammation and related diseases. Thus, aiming for a balanced intake, roughly one part omega-3 for every four parts omega-6, is recommended for optimum health outcomes.

Considering that Omega 6 is everywhere in the modern diet, I am not sure we can overdose on omega 3.

What happens when then anyway? Higher omega 3 reduces inflammation.  What happens if there's too much?

Perhaps I used the wrong term here. 'Overdose' isn't accurate. Perhaps 'imbalanced' would be a better way to talk about it.
The body works best when Omegas 3 and 6 are in correct balance. Of course, no one really knows exactly what that balance should be for each individual, but there do seem to be some guidelines

I'm 68, always been a fish lover. Tuna fish is just an easy way to prepare lunch, always with a bowl of green olives. My cooking skills are limited, so it's either chicken, fish or occasional fillet steak. I just go with what I like, as I don't take any meds yet, I'll continue on.

Have you ever found an edible can of tuna fish in Thailand?  All the ones I've tried here over the years here have been more like cat food than real tuna.

Which can do you buy, I miss having tuna.

I buy in Makro, 5 cans to a sleeve. I'm out now, I buy the ones in spring water. I don't know the brand names, but you're right, sometimes the tuna is mushy and not chunky.

Thanks, I'll give them a try. I didn't know the spring water tuna was available here.

Brook tastes good. Not sure about mercury risk though.
