Thaksin Denies Business Ties with Alleged Scammer Smith

De facto Pheu Thai leader and inmate Thaksin Shinawatra denied any "business investment" dealings with alleged scammer Benjamin Mauerberger, aka Ben Smith, according to his lawyer Winyat Chatmontree.

Thaksin, currently serving a one-year sentence at Klong Prem prison, maintains he knew Smith only as an "acquaintance" and was not involved in any illegal activities. This statement comes amid allegations surrounding Thaksin's purchase of a Bombardier Global 7500 private jet.

Winyat clarified that Thaksin never made any business investments with Smith and kept his distance from allegations linking his client to scammers or money launderers. The lawyer did not elaborate on the term "business investment" and refrained from confirming if Smith had ever been Thaksin's business adviser.

Speculations have emerged that Smith, a blacklisted scammer by the US Treasury Department, may have acted as a sales agent for the jet, allegedly introduced to Thaksin by Klatham's Thammanat Prompao.

Earlier this year, a Bangkok restaurant reportedly witnessed the alleged connection between the trio.

Although Smith was known to have connections with celebrities like Cambodian leader Hun Sen, Thaksin's lawyer plans legal action against anyone making unfounded accusations or suggesting Thaksin's involvement with Smith's operations, reported Thai Newsroom.

Despite mounting pressure, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul remains firm amidst calls to dismiss Thammanat from his government roles due to his alleged obstruction of scam-related legislative efforts.

Key Takeaways

  • Thaksin Shinawatra denies any business ties with Ben Smith, stating he knew him only as an acquaintance.
  • Allegations suggest Smith may have had connections with prominent politicians across Southeast Asia.
  • Legal action is threatened against those making accusations about Thaksin’s alleged involvement with scammers.

Be honest, if you did dealings like this, would you admit it or wait to have it proven you did.

Of course Thaksin will deny it. He denies everything until proof is unfolded and he gets caught.

Thammanat: Ex-military

Thaksin: Ex-RTP

both persons are associated with pristine institutions, having stellar reputations... :cheesy:

He keeps denying even after proof is presented, and convicted.

I don't need to worry.

If there is no proof, there can be no crime.

That is patently untrue.

Many people have committed crimes that went unpunished for lack if evidence. The crime was still committed.

I was referring to ALL the military coups, for which no general has been punished, not even a fake wai or a 500 baht fine, let alone a jail sentence.

T. I. T.

Thaksin is still in gold medal position for murder, theft, graft, nepotism etc

Not making any comment on those involved in this current article

But some of the biggest scammers, crooks and cheats are those in business attire, in Wall Street, in Banks or in Political Office.,

The Madoffs and similar scumbags who destroy people's lives and their savings for instance,.

And this goes for any country in the world.
