One unforgettable memory about Thailand

Featured Replies

I remember when the cops would go home at midnight, shut shop.

We went out for the evening, got on the girlfriends Mio, going to put my helmet on, the girlfriend says, don't worry, no police

Selling land & house in ex-wife's name at Land Office, using POA, and she wasn't even there :cheesy:

Best part was, LO rep wouldn't accept wording of first one, (had 3 signed & witnessed), asked him what he wants it to state, walked outside, got a beer, filled it in, went back in ... "that will work" , done, sold  :coffee1:

Talking with the developer of Soi Buakhou, LK Metro, looking to buy a shop house.

At the time, pre construction price for a single unit around 3M baht.

Coming down to Riley Beach early 2000 and live in a Bamboo bungalow, with no electricity, no internet.

Swimming, climbing, kayaking, scuba diving, free diving and eating real traditional food for months without one worry.

Reading at least two books a week

Unforgettable, my last Paradise on earth. Moved to Tonsai next trip, and unfortunate the Paradise vanished quickly, and like that every next Paradise you discovered went the same way.

Last Paradise Koh Phayam survived somehow until Covid almost.

Staying in Phetchabun, in the hills, not far from the cave temple, beautiful location, south of Phetchabun city.

Anyway, back on topic 😂, the local small shop would sell 3 large bottles of Chang for 100 baht.

First came to Thailand as a tourist in the 90s with a mate. He'd been a few times already. He took me to Patpong and before we entered the first bar he looked at me and said, "Are you ready? This is going to be an eye opener!"

Next day, Nana & Cowboy.

I remember back when you could go into Lotus's or Big C etc, buy a box or carton of beer anytime of day.

Only restriction was the quantity, a few litres minimum purchase 🍺

Going to housing auction for Jomtien Park Villas.

The auction was held at Royal Cliff Resort, to gain entrance was a cashier's cheque for 100,000 baht

No cheque no entry

The sordid things the ladies at Xzone gogo would let one do to them right there on the bar top would be up near the top of most memorable moments.

Great club, shame it got closed down.

Good times!

The first time I came to Thailand was for work in early 1991, 10 days in a factory in Bang Kapi doing training.

Stayed somewhere in downtown Bangkok and had to leave the hotel before 6 am to beat the traffic. After work would go eat and drink somewhere near the plant to avoid rush hour traffic.

Kevin, another Brit, was the production manager would get his driver to take me back to the hotel and waited till i showered and changed then take me to where Kevin was.

Soi Cowboy was close so we went there most nights drinking till the place closed.

Back in the uk some 6 weeks later i felt terrible, seemed like a bad case of flu, went to bed early burning up, ended up sleeping in the bath with no water and a cold flannel on my head.

Woke up in the morning with the then wife staring at me !! My face was yellow, even the whites of my eyes !!

Went to hospital and the doctor asked me if I had eaten any seafood or travelled anywhere exotic recently ?

” Ate some oysters in Bangkok six weeks ago “

” that’ll be it then “ he said “ Hepatitis A “

2 months off work and 6 months zero alcohol !!

My unforgettable memory about Thailand !

Shell petrol station on Pattaya 2nd Road, a few hundred metres passed Big C.

Nana Hotel.....when it had nightclub of sorts (does it still?)......and a very attractive young lady, in the middle of the dance floor, introduced me to what was known, colloquially, as Clinton's new aides.......Neil and Bob.

Car and motorcycle Drivers licence were laminated paper.

1st licence issued, only 1 year, then 5 year.

More! 😀 Sounds interesting AF lol

I was walking down Sukhumvit Road, and I saw a "Scottish" pub, on the even side, and I walked in.
True enough, it had unfriendly bright lighting and linoleum flooring.

"Pintahevvy"

"Can I get you a drink?"
"Beer.."

OK< so it could be more....

"Wahir'ryoufi'"
asked the man next to me
"Well, originally Scotland, but I'm now living in Hong Kong"
"Hong Kong? Ah wiz twentey-two year wi Swire Pacifci;d'ye ken Swire Pacific?"
"Yes - the coca cola franchise and Cathay Pacific. Are you retired here now?"
"Aye - afore this Ah wiz tenty-two year wi Swire Paific - d'ye ken Swire Pacific?"
I'm never going back.

Ye cannae go back, ye can jist go again
He's right, and I've been to Scotland and to Hong Kong since, but it was going again.  And Bangkok.

All I can say is thank god for the Raddison Blu and their fabulous hong nam in the lobby.

ProTip: When traveling in SE asia, carry  a pocket microfiber towel (available at such fine retailers as REI, Cabelas, Bass Pro, Midway) for an emergency clean up. There isnt always a fountain

IMO baby wipes you can buy in 7-11 is a must to have in your bag. It's like 20 baht, stays fresh for weeks and fits in any bag

Normally I use them to clean my hands after eating (esp street food, but quite a lot of restaurants provide no tissue if u not ask)  but it will work for ass as well 😄

Do you have smth like that? Please share if you do!

The day I was having lunch in a bar with a pal and a girl walked in with a friend and asked the bar if they had any work. My pal immediately asked to buy her lunch and she refused, later that night we found her working in another bar, I took her home ....... 2 weeks later we married and have been together for nearly 16 years!

I saw another thread which made me remember.

Vending machines, selling Coke, Pepsi etc and cans of beer

First trip ever, Sunday 24 August 1997.  Arrived from LHR early morning into DMK.  Taxi to the Amari North Pattaya.  Was told I could wait for my room in the restaurant and have breakfast.  I was stunned by the couples also enjoying their breakfast there, and knew at that moment Thailand was my next home, and it was.
