Trump has failed to bring prices down

Trump came into office screaming about inflation which admittedly was very high, and he has done very little to bring prices down. I just came back from the US and inflation continues to roar unabated, everyone's talking about how overpriced America is. I have a friend who divides his time between Monte Carlo and London, and he recently visited New York and Los Angeles and said nearly everything in both cities was substantially more expensive than at his home in Monte Carlo! That's an incredible indictment of Trump's inability to do anything for middle class Americans regarding a broken economy.

Don't even mention the CPI, we all know those are fake government numbers, and we all know that magnesium ore does not impact our lives very much.

Facing growing public pessimism about his handling of the economy, US President Donald Trump has fired off a flurry of proposals to address consumer concerns.

Trump previously downplayed concerns about cost of living, insisting the outlook had improved during his nine months in office. He said affordability was a "new word", and a "con job" by Democrats.

But he has focused on the issue with some urgency since his Republican Party's poor performance in last week's off-year elections across a handful of states.

In a great state of desperation seeing that he has not been able to do anything to bring prices down for Americans he's now pushing an absolutely stupid idea of a 50-year mortgage. We should call it the TMAIL" "Trump makes  Americans indebted for life plan".

"It will ultimately reward banks, mortgage lenders and home builders while people pay far more in interest over time and die before they ever pay off their home."

It would be useful to say what have you actually experienced yourself regarding inflation instead of posting pictures and links. Otherwise you just went traveling a bit and noticed things are expensive.

I have been back in canada 8 months now. Inflation is bad, but once you get immune to being reverse cultured and start getting used to how things work I can honestly say it's not bad. The country is broken, it is boring beyond belief and everything sucks, but I think inflation in Thailand is worse.

I completely disagree, and I think a large component of that is the fact that labor costs have remained very inexpensive in Thailand compared to the US and Canada, where it's out of control. I just painted a new home inside and out and I hired laborers for 500 Baht a day who did a great job, and my friend in New Orleans did the same and paid $400 a day for just labor, and thought he was getting a great deal.

$32 VS $400?

I have been living in Thailand for 5 years.  I eat about 90% at home.  Mostly I buy ingredients for typical central Thai food.  The prices have risen very little in that time.... in fact most are the same.  However, prices on cooked food, even just noodles have risen by about 30% in those 5 years.  I don't begrudge the food stall owners/cooks a better living standard.  I see many of them put in long hours almost every day.

I have family and friends in the US with whom trade emails weekly and all say the same thing - costs of everything increasing regularly.  Now with the reported health insurance costs zooming in the new year (my stateside govt sponsored insurance too) many folks will have to decide whether to have that insurance or a house payment or starve IMHO while who out there thinks that DJT has ever done any grocery shopping in his life, let alone pay any monthly bills himself?  IMHO he actually has no idea of how the average citizen there is suffereing.

Telling it like it really is. Outing the disingenuous liar in chief.

Senator Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M) highlighted how the Trump administration’s policies have increased costs for the American people and weakened the economy, directly contradicting President Trump’s campaign promise to lower costs on day one.

“President Trump promised to end inflation and make America affordable again on starting on day one. He has failed the American people,” said Senator Luján. “Instead, President Trump’s policies have made life more expensive for everyone. From his reckless trade wars that hurt small businesses, to canceling projects that lower energy costs, to cutting critical health care and nutrition assistance – every decision has driven prices higher and left American families struggling to keep up.”

New car buyers can expect to shell out an average of more than $50,000 for the first time.

WSJ – Grocery Prices Keep Rising. Frustrated Consumers Are Trying to Adapt. The price of coffee increased 20.9%… ground beef was up 12.8%, and bananas rose 6.6%. Dairy, fruits and vegetables and cereals have all become pricier.”

FOX 4 – Beef prices hit record highs as nationwide cattle inventory drops to lowest level in 70 years. Higher tariffs have also factored into higher beef prices hitting consumers at the checkout line, with beef from Brazil facing a 76% tariff and other beef-producing countries facing tariffs as well.”

CNBC – Tariffs are pushing prices higher and consumers are feeling the hit, Fed’s Beige Book shows. "President Donald Trump’s tariffs are pushing inflation generally higher as companies are caught between absorbing the costs or passing them onto customers, according to a Federal Reserve report Wednesday.”

Bloomberg – Even GOP Voters Are Souring on This Economy

“Only 44% of Republicans think the economy is excellent or good…Hiring remains slow, costs — like groceries and housing — are still high, and credit is tight…The share of Republicans who expect the economy to be better next year is rapidly declining.”

ABC News – Slowdown in US hiring suggests economy still needs rate cuts, Fed’s Powell says

“A sharp slowdown in hiring poses a growing risk to the U.S. economy, Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell said Tuesday.”

Don’t think he’s necessarily trying to destroy the place (perhaps no pain no gain), but he couldn’t really care less about the average Joe because he’s rich and old, and totally insulated from them. Similar to some of my own dubious politicians. But, even without Trump in office, all this would happen anyway—the downfall of the US and West in general—just maybe not so fast. It’s all a complete shambles.

You're absolutely correct and I've been saying this for months now. Trump is driving nations right into the arms of China, whether that's deliberate sabotage or not, whether that's just utter ignorance or not, few people know. But it certainly not something that his disciples are willing to acknowledge.

Not only is he failing to bring prices down at home, he's failing to secure exports for American producers and manufacturers. There's a heavy price to be paid for his ridiculous tariff policies.

The goon gets outsmarted once again.

China is grappling with a glut of soybeans after months of record imports, curbing prospects for U.S. exports despite a recent trade truce that Washington said includes a pledge by Beijing to resume heavy purchases.

Traders and analysts warn that vast stockpiles at ports and in state reserves, coupled with weak crush margins, limit Beijing's appetite for further purchases.

"State firms may be waiting for margins to recover before making large-scale purchases," said Johnny Xiang, founder of Beijing-based AgRadar Consulting. "Even with tariff waivers, margins remain negative and Brazilian beans are still cheaper."

After President Donald Trump met Chinese leader Xi Jinping last month officials in Washington said China had agreed to buy 12 million tons of U.S. soybeans by year-end and 25 million tons in each of the next three years. China has not publicly committed to making purchases, although it suspended retaliatory tariffs on U.S. imports, while state buyer COFCO has booked only a few cargoes for December and January shipment, traders and analysts say.

"Deploying the same methodology that Republicans used to track cost increases under former President Joe Biden, JEC Democrats found that the average US family is spending roughly $700 more per month on basic items since Trump took office in January, pledging to bring prices “way down.”

In some states—including Alaska, California, and Colorado—average families are spending over $1,000 more per month to maintain their living standards as costs continue to rise, in part due to Trump’s erratic tariff regime."

No, that's a narrow minded way to look at it.

A low income earner can buy now instead of rent.

And pass on the home to their children.

Also, Trump doesn't own the universe. Many prices are out of his control. He can't just wave a magic wand. It doesn't work like that.

Yeah, could be.

Probably not a good idea to cling to every word he says.

You do like workers in the USA to make a living age?   Or do you?

Has Trump kept one election promise?

What planet are you on?a low income earner can’t afford anything a effin car costs 60k now steak 20$ a pound gas here in ca 5$ a gallon…..so nope you’re misinformed or just trying to be funny…..a lot of these high prices are a direct result of the trump tax (tariffs) + many of the tariffs are levied when Donnie has an (episode) Brazil is a good example.some president ehh??

No. The left wants to flood the country with illegal aliens to drive wages down. They are terrified that prices will go up when Americans have to be paid higher wages.

You can thank Joe Biden and the dems for these high prices.   During the Biden yeas prices increased by 21%.

@spidermike007 wants to pay slave wages to people in the USA.   The USA is not Thailand.  The USA is a developed country.

Gas is $2.60 a gallon in Oklahoma, why is it $5.00 in California?

Because we have to support the failing red states with our tax dollars.

trump, in interviews with Brett Baier and Laura Ingraham this week, claims that prices are down significantly..."groceries, energy", and that gas is $2/gallon.

He also claimed that democrats are "conning" the American public by saying that prices are up.

So in trump's "mind" he's brought prices down.

Gas is $3.30 a gallon in New York, why is it $5.00 in California?

Oh well,

The damage to the US created by the failed Left wing ideology is so deep rooted in all facets of the economy, that fixing it is a larger task than anticipated.

Just never vote again for any Democrat style of governing, and hope for improvements.

No other solution available.

Out of these millions of US citizens, Trump was the one chosen.

Lucky to have anyone wanting such a job, certainly not to be found here, the forum of complaints and vitriol.

This is another tired often repeated dumb talking point from the left.
