Four killed in shooting at child's birthday party in California

At least four people have been killed in a mass shooting at a child's birthday party in California.

Ten others were injured in the shooting at a restaurant on Saturday evening, in the state's northern city of Stockton.

Local police say the victims include adults and children. The conditions of the injured have not been confirmed.

A suspect is still on the loose and police say they believe the shooting may have been "targeted".

 

The San Joaquin county sheriff's office said the shooting happened shortly before 18:00 local time (02:00 GMT Sunday), and is appealing to anyone with "information, video footage, or who may have witnessed any part of the incident" to come forward.

Spokesperson Heather Brent described the incident as "unfathomable", adding: "This is a very active and ongoing investigation, and information remains limited.

 

"Early indications suggest this may be a targeted incident, and investigators are exploring all possibilities.

Stockton's Mayor Christina Fugazi called the shooting "unacceptable".

 

"Families should be together instead of at the hospital, standing next to their loved one, praying that they survive."

California has some of the strictest laws on firearms in the US, and has in recent years faced challenges to it.

In 2021, a federal judge overturned the state's ban on assault weapons, such as the AR-15 rifle.

 

The following year, the Supreme Court expanded US gun rights as it struck down a New York law restricting gun-carrying rights, jeopardising similar regulation in California.

Judging by the demographics of Stockton, easy to figure out who probably wasn't involved.  Only question, did they enter USA legally or simply enjoying their sanctuary city & state.

I owned 16 firearms (after shrinking my collection), and they never harmed anyone.

 

Same with the 10s of millions of firearms in the hands of 10's of millions of legal owners of, and everyday, they don't seem to harm anyone.

Agree 100% - Passing Laws taking away rights to guns and expecting that to stop shootings, is like passing Laws to ban murder, robbery, theft, drugs etc. and expecting that to solve the problem.   I bet the shooter was not a member of NRA or any other shooting club - they never are - they are mentally damaged people.  The problem is not good sensible people getting guns, it is that people who are mentally unstable and violent and criminals can get guns. If the lefties really want to reduce the shootings, then they need to stop trying to repeal the second amendment for all citizens, and rather than that approach - attempt to change the laws about the type of people that can get guns. But instead they just use the shootings as a political issue to fire up their voter base - and blame Trump and GOP of course - same old same old - divisive hateful politics.
