December 6, 2025Dec 6 Has anyone recently done a Coronary Artery Calcium Scan (CAC) to find out how much calcium deposits are in your heart's arteries? In particular, anyone done it in Pattaya? How much are the prices? Is it only worth doing it at Bangkok Hospital Pattaya or is it worth doing at Pattaya Memorial or Pattaya International? Seems Bangkok Hospital (think this is in Bangkok?) has a package for 4,500 baht but they have a lot of other uncessary things as part of their package, when all I want is the Coronary Artery Calcium Scan (CAC). Actually, looks like Bangkok Hospital Pattaya has it for 2,900 baht: https://bangkokpattayahospital.com/product/heart-center-packages-2/?srsltid=AfmBOoqM31zKKEyCsigzBIXPQhU6YNGBQZ5VXbXcOyWEvjZvXjpOCsL9 Below it the 4,500 baht package from Bangkok Hospital (think this is in Bangkok?): Fasting blood Sugar Glycated Hb – HbA1c Creatinine plus GFR Cholesterol HDL LDL Triglycerides CT Coronary Calcium Score Physical examination by the doctor
December 6, 2025Dec 6 In my other thread which is similar to yours , a poster just replied he had had a calcium test but wishes he got the angiogram
December 6, 2025Dec 6 Not perfect, but you could just get a carotid (neck) artery ultrasound, and if 'NO' plaque found there, then think you'd have low risk of any major build up elsewhere. Or just get the CAC. Carotid artery, large & close to skin, so easily read with ultrasound. From AI ... On other tests you may want, and ones I get, that give me a pretty clear idea, where I'm at or heading, with eating lifestyle. Lipid panel (Lipoprotein) Lp (a) ... just once in life time Lp (b) HbA1c HSCRP HOMA-IR Never hurts to know your electrolyte levels, copy of what those should show, and let's you know to avoid supplementing, unless doing heavy work out, it that's even needed 🙄 DISCLAIMER: not a doc or med professional, but my numbers tell me I'm doing OK so far, after 71 yrs of gracing the planet. Non smoker, cut all alcohol out, slowly over last 10 ish years. Whole foods, home cooking, Keto-ish diet with intermittent fasting overnight, 2000 hrs - 1100 hrs. I get most of my blood work done at 'N Health' now, Chumphon branch, being closest to us. https://www.nhealth-asia.com/th/s/contact?_rsc=1iadh&%2Fth%2Fs%2Fcontact={"fk"%3A""%2C"total"%3A33%2C"currentPage"%3A2%2C"pageSize"%3A9%2C"filter"%3A{"filter"%3A{"keyword"%3A""%2C"saleAreaSlug"%3A"all"%2C"searchLocation"%3Anull}%2C"key"%3A"keyword%3A%3A_saleAreaSlug%3A%3Aall_searchLocation%3A%3A"}}

Or is it advised by a cardiologist??

No, not advised by a cardiologist. Been watching Dr. Pradip Jamnadas who's a vascular surgeon on YouTube and Facebook. He mentions that it's well worth getting a CAC done, and I feel it is as well to know if I have any calcium plaque buildup. I've been getting constant sharp chest pains for over 10 years already on and off, always on the left or the centre area. Seen cardiologists before, done the EKG, 24 hour Holter monitor, treadmill stress test. Conclusion they said was that it's probably from GERD, which can apparently give chest pain and similar symptoms as heart pain. Others have said anxiety even though I'm not anxious.

December 7, 2025Dec 7 I recently had this done at PhayaThai Sri Ratcha. They had a promotional price of 1500b for the scan/score + 1000b to discuss the results with a cardiologist and get a copy of the files. Not sure what they are charging now. I think Bangkok Pattaya wanted at least 4500. They had a translator on duty to act as a go-between so everything went smoothly. It costs about 300 baht each way from Pattaya for a bolt car. That was my plan B in case it looked like rain. I ended up going there on my rental scooter instead.

December 7, 2025Dec 7 I've had one. I forget the price. They only recommend to do them if you have other indicators, like high LDL Direct (more than 130) and if you have some hypertension - even without symptoms - and are overweight. Just listening to your heart or doing an EKG doesn't tell them much. Hospitals (abroad) usually restrict it to males 40 y.o. min - 70 y.o. max (after that everyone will have plaque in their arteries). Women get a reprieve usually until mid 50s or post-menopause because estrogen protects them from the plaque formations (allegedly). As you probably already know, anything above 400 on their scale of counting is very serious for a near-future cardiac event like heart attack or stroke. But some people get scores above 1,000, 2,000 and higher but are asymptomatic. But just getting one of these low-dose CAC CT scans is a double-edged sword some would say. On the one hand, if you're 50-60 and get a score of 200 or less you could click your heals in delight. But what if it's much higher than 400? Then, down the rabbit hole you go, with a cardiologist, loaded up with statins and heart meds. But the CAC doesn't tell you if you have any blockages in your arteries - it just tells you how serious your 'hardening of the arteries' is at present. So then wouldn't you be tempted to go for the CT Angiography? That's where they inject you with a dye into your veins and then give you a CT with full dose CT radiation that - again - only looks at the three arteries of your heart. Then you find out if there are any significant blocks (stenosis) in that small area and whether you need MORE interventions to head off cardiac events like baloons/catheters and stents to open them up (angioplasty). Some would say if you are fit, not overweight, don't smoke (that's the worst for this), and eat red meat only in small amounts, you might as well just live your life as it comes..

Not sure what's worse, your total ignorance, or your extreme hypochondriac paranoia, with no research whatever into everything you worry about. You obviously don't know what a stent even is, and what the usual procedure is to place them. Hint: the procedure itself, took 11 mins, once the doc started. So no, was wide awake, and they didn't crack me open. Even watched it on the monitor, as he performed. Actually got bored and closed my eyes. 2 stents were places, I think, though could have been a 2 part stent, as listed items, were 2 stents, of different size. TBO not sure if 1 or 2 stents were place. Really, don't know, don't care. Spent about 12 in ICU, just monitoring, make sure they set properly, no leaks or blockages. BP checked about every 15 mins, on auto, for first few hours. Got booted out of ICU about midnight, as they needed for someone else. They were done monitoring me, well, maybe every hour at that point. That was a Friday (?) morning procedure, and they wanted to keep me till Tuesday, so doc could follow up. Since no longer monitoring me, I didn't see the point, and checked myself out. Seriously something wrong with you. Seek a shrink for your paranoia. Doc tells you that you're healthy, but they must be lying, as the results don't confirm you're going to die next week. Why the quest for a terminal diagnosis ? Is planning your hospice experience top on your bucket list.
December 9, 2025Dec 9 CAC score is a useful predictor that is part of determining a start statins for cholesterol recommendation. https://www.acc.org/Latest-in-Cardiology/Articles/2021/01/19/14/27/The-Agatston-Coronary-Artery-Calcium-Score-in-Statin-Users ACC https://www.jacc.org/doi/10.1016/j.jacadv.2023.100664 JACC https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamacardiology/fullarticle/2781973 JAMA
December 9, 2025Dec 9 Yes, CAC score can be useful in deciding whether or not to treat slightly elevated LDL. I got one about a year ago for that reason.

Wait time, Q, as thinking of popping in, as love a sale price, apparently till end of year. Wife will be with me, so no need for translator, or cardiologist to explain results, especially if <100 CAC score. Anyone @Ralf001 done their (PhayaThai Sriracha Hosp) full check up, and thoughts about. TIA Need an O&A, and that would be a nice add on. And I finally get to see the "World's Largest 7-11", tops my bucket list
