Youtubers rave about Lampang and Phayao. Can't see why.

Those are provinces, not cities. Do let us know which one you are currently hiding out in, since your presence seems to be an excellent deterrent for everyone else.

Uttaraditt have nice gym and also great potential for off road riding with motorbikes. And also a nice pit stop with a couple of nice restaurants

Agree, but don't think I'd like to live there.  Driven through many times, and overnighted a few times.  I think most people would find where we live boring, especially a tourist after a day or 2, or any single expat.

We love it.

Maybe lower the price.

Korat is an ugly boring city in my opinion. Udon Thani and Khon Kaen are the pick of the NE, along with the quieter and smaller NE cities along the Mekhong River, like Nong Khai, Mukdahan, Nakhon Phanom, not a lot to do in those places but nice to chill out in riverside restaurants looking across the river into Lao. Many here have rubbished HatYai however I lived there for lengthy periods and it really is a pretty good place, only 30 minutes from the sea and Songkhla, and you can be in Penang in a few hours by road. There are some mighty good restaurants and street food in HatYai, along with a sizable expat community, and if mongering is your thing then HatYai has it in spades.

If the place have opportunities and family, then there is possibilities. But just move to any rural town just to move in Thailand, no

Family is one good reason for some, for other not, and if you can make something there be it hobby or a business/hobby or even better a proper income, then you have a proper reason.

Living a place means to me have a base where I keep my things, everything else is bonus

Temples are fine if on a hill with view.

What about this for a view ??

But you probably won’t go there because of the location .

All subjective dude like most things. I found Ubon really lame.

sure its subjective. but just wondering what defines 'lame' for you? is it the absence of Pattaya style nightlife?

because everything else is there and in a much more relaxed and cost effective way.

Some folks just can't leave that barstool.

Think we almost ran out of places to explore, as a day trip.  We don't really have an East or West to explore, as hills on Myanmar border are < 10 kms away, and surf is < 5 kms away.  PKK is a long province, and we're almost dead center.

Seen most everything to the North, Phetchaburi province, and to the South, Chumphon Province.  Lived in NE for 17 yrs, and North is too far away, (been there, done that) and like the South best anyway.   So we loop around there quite a bit.

Landscape still amazes me, same with our local bays, so all good, though unless into nature a bit, photography, and just cycling, scootering, or strolling around, then you'd be bored.

Probably still got another 500 coffee shops to discover in PKK :coffee1:

With the occasional "hidden gem" that no one knows about.

Yep. One of them is on the list. Of course that depends on whether one is driving through or planning to settle.

I have visited Chiang Mai a few times. Just another large Thai city with lots of traffic.  I didn't find any endearing features.

Me too. I know many retired Americans live there and like it. But I could never see why (I'm talking about the city, not the province). A one-way traffic nightmare, ultra-bad pollution, a boring night scene with one (?) gogo bar? The small beer-bar entertainment venue they used to have (still there?) near the Ping River and one of the big hotels had a Thai boxing ring and a few bars with unsmiling round-faced Chiang Mai bar girls - a bit fatty and shapeless like they tend to be.. But it had a Central shopping mall. That was the only saving grace, and you could take excursions out of town to some lakes etc. Even Khon Kaen is now much better (actually I was very impressed with how much KK has grown and changed during a vist this year).

Great cafes and restaurants. Old City is awesome.

Yes, rude people. And two times a bomb exploded where I had been standing, or walking earlier! - 24 hours after I had been on railway station platform 1, a bomb exploded in the exact place (2004, or 2005)!, and, in 2006, only a few hours after I went to a shopping mall (Diana Shopping Centre), a bomb exploded there)... (Sounds strange, but it's true!! Very dangerous place twenty years ago!)

what did you do to upset the locals? LOL

Loi Kroh is OK. Is their an equivalent inside the moat? I know their is a Jazz club but very crowded. I've been to The Swan Burmese Place.  I'm not really a foodie I just eat mostly to stay alive

I suppose Breakfast World is technically in the Old City. That's OK maybe twice.

The separatist insurgency started shortly after I moved there... 😆

😁

I don't particularly like chilli so most Thai food is off the list.  Sports Bars OK. but they mostly show soccer 👎

I'll trade you books shops for hardware stores. But yes I should get back into reading. At least there is a place between Top North and Maddog that sells the Bangkok Post.
