December 30, 2025Dec 30 Hello, I am 52 years old and I am being followed by a urologist in Thailand. The problem is that the two treatments he has given me have not solved my urinary issues: I have difficulty urinating, and I wake up 5 times per night to go to the bathroom despite the two treatments I have tried: Silodosin with Diutropan (Oxybutynin) and Uroflow (Tamsulosin) with Ditropan (Oxybutynin). Would you have another treatment to recommend, or do you have a method to help ? Cheers
December 30, 2025Dec 30 In terms of medication, normally finasteride or dutasteride would be given along with drugs like tamsulosin/dutropan. Unlike the latter, this class of drug actually helps reduce prostate size though it takes many months to take effect. In fact that is such a stsndard treatment that I have to wonder if there is some particular contraindication to prescribing it for you?Somd men find herbal treatments Saw Palmetto and Milk Thistle helpful, some don't.While medication is alwsys the first line of treatment it does often become necessary to have surgery or laser treatment /steam treatment (Rezum) etc to eliminate the blockage.Where in Thsiland are you locsted? A second opinion may be wise.
December 31, 2025Dec 31 Author Thanks for your advice Sheryl, i will follow your advice and visit another doctor. I'm living at Krabi. Cheers

CheersI found the doctors to often misdiagnose this problem. After 3 years of ineffective treatment, I noticed taking antibiotics helped me a lot.So for me probably a UTI and not BPH.And I also find smoking 0.5gm of cannabis (hybrid mostly Indica) every evening before bed also causes me to wee a lot before bed, and subsequently sleep through the night undisturbed.

My test did not reveal any.

My test did not reveal any.The tests at Thai hospitals aren't that good.As an example, took my wife to hospital for a pregnancy test (hard tits, no periods, throwing up, test kit said positive), hospital says 'test negative' after much shouting and crying they reluctantly agree to do a second test. Second test 'positive', lab tech entered results into wrong persons file.Took my 5yo son to hospital (different hospital) with stomach pains, "he has an inflamed appendicitis and we're having to take it out immediately or he'll die". I forcibly remove him to a second hospital ........ "he's constipated and this syringe of medicine up the bum will sort it". Fixed in under 30 mins. Many of these people are stupid, and they don't easily ever agree they are wrong. So unless your tests were done in a hospital in your home country, best to get another opinion.

CheersYour medication is quite ok. However, how long do you take the medicine already? It will take a week at least until you'll see significant improvementIt's fact and proven that Saw Palmetto and Nettle tea will have a good impact too. Also take Pumpkin seed, Green Tea and Pomegranate. I'm sure your problems will ease very soon. Also eat Broccoli, Spinach, avoid spicy food, less coffee and of course alcohol.Fluid intake over the day, less in the evening.Good luck.

January 1Jan 1 I'm not in Thailand but I'm currently experiencing an enlarged prostate problem here in the UK. Long story short, I was rushed to hospital with urinary retention (being unable to pee for 2 days straight) whereby I've had to have a catheter fitted to drain away the urine. Due to my kidneys taking a severe pounding I was admitted over Christmas Eve, Day, and Boxing Day with constant antibiotics pumped into my body via a cannula and drip. Trust me, you don't want to let it get this far as my situation is now extremely uncomfortable. I'm still awaiting a Transrectal Ultrasound (TRUS) to have my prostate measured and tested for cancer. This will be the first step in getting properly treated. So far I've had the finger probe where it was established I didn't have any nodules on my prostate (apparently a good sign). My UK hospital has spoken about having a Transurethral Resection of the Prostate (TURP), which is a common surgery to remove excess prostate tissue blocking the urethra (pee tube), treating symptoms of an enlarged prostate (BPH) or prostate cancer blockage, using a resectoscope passed through the urethra to cut away tissue with an electric current. A TURP is one of those last recourse treatments. I'm hoping that after my biopsy that I'm offered GreenLight Laser PVP (Photoselective Vaporization of the Prostate) which is a minimally invasive laser procedure to treat an enlarged prostate with quicker healing times, etc. I don't want to get ahead of myself with wishful thinking, but that's the outcome I would prefer. If it's any consolation, the NHS is extremely slow in treating this despite me being placed at the top of some urgent NHS waiting list. Nevertheless, as soon as I have my biopsy/diagnosis I'm going private here in the UK. The drugs I have been given in the meantime consist of Contiflo XL 400 mg (taken once daily) and Ciprofloxacin 500mg (twice daily). The only reason I'm telling you this is don't let this problem manifest like I did. Because one night you just might find you can't pee either and have to undergo what I'm presently undergoing, and I wouldn't wish that on anyone.I wish you luck.
January 1Jan 1 A friend of mine with an enlarged prostate had his prostate removed by water jet surgery. Said it was a game changer for him. The idea apparently is that there is a lot lower chance of nerve damage which can leave you impotent. Something to look into.

One of the uses of Ciprofloxacin is thatNo burning prior to peeing, no. I was pretty much just like the OP, getting up perhaps twice/thrice nightly for a pee before that fateful night. Basically, there was no prior warning to indicate that the blockage would suddenly occur. I'd used Prostasan before then, which is a traditional herbal medicine, primarily containing saw palmetto berry extract, used by men over 18 to relieve lower urinary tract symptoms caused by an enlarged prostate (BPH). Now I have a catheter fitted until further notice.
